Nan I found this book in a furnished house I was renting several years ago, published in a Readers' Digest condensed books volume. I'm thankful for that as I kept reading just to see how bad it would get and it didn't take me all that long to complete. The basic plot is that a man breaks into Buckingham Palace and rapes the Queen. The Queen soon discovers that she's pregnant.(This is present day, but present day in an alternate universe.) A subplot is that the royal couple's only child, a twenty-something daughter, is dreading having to someday assume the throne. Oh, and she's also in love with an American journalist. Time goes on, the Queen gives birth to a son who looks remarkably like the Prince Consort, so everyone is happy, esp the daughter who can now marry her journalist. See what I mean? Did anyone else have the misfortune to pick up this lemon? If so, do you remember the name? Or has your brain, in self defense, blocked it from your memory?

Ketutar Jensen | 40 comments Sounds interesting... (yes, I'm weird :-D)

You could go to and ask the name of the book.

message 4: by Nan (new)

Nan Thanks for the suggestion, Ketutar. I'll do just that--I'd love to be able to put this book on my list. I guess it was somewhat interesting, or I wouldn't have persevered to the end. Almost every book I read, no matter how valuable it is or how much I like it, seems to have something about it that is annoying, usually in regards to believability. Usually, they are just minor, easily overlooked annoyances. But the basic premise of this particular book, that someone could even break in to Buckingham Palace, let alone rape the Queen, was just too far down on the likelihood scale. And too far up on the cheesiness!

Jennie | 38 comments I can't stop giggling at the description of this book. WTF?! Please update us if you've found out the title. I have a morbid curiosity about it now...

message 6: by Nan (new)

Nan Still haven't found it. I know--isn't that just the worst plotline you ever heard?

message 7: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 38 comments The weird thing is, the part about the Queen of England being raped seems familiar to me (bizarrely enough)... I'm going to dig around online and see what I come up with.

message 8: by Sonia (new)

Sonia Gomes (soniarosario) Jennie, you are thinking of Alison Weir's book!

message 9: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 38 comments Hmmm...I don't know, Sonia. Can you tell me more about it?

message 10: by Sonia (new)

Sonia Gomes (soniarosario) Elizabeth I (First) was raped by her stepfather, that is Katherine Parr's husband after Henry VI death. She even miscarried his child

Lisa Sonia, I think you mean Edward VI's death. Henry VI would have been a bit early for that.
