Elizabeth (elizabethoverton) Describe what you found to be the best messages this book had to offer. What did you get out of it? Did it teach you something new, or reinforce a belief you already held? What lessons does it hold for children, adults, and everyone in between?

J-Lynn Van Pelt | 43 comments I think the book was very empowering for children. Coraline had the power (and confidence) to face an unknown malevolent force and save her parents. I think telling kids that they can face their fears and that they are important is a great message.

Sandi (sandikal) I agree with J-Lynn.

Valerie | 16 comments Well put J-Lynn. The strength and innocence of the young was really shown in Coraline. She was curious yet kept her head on her shoulders.

Kelly RAley (kraley) | 101 comments I actually listened to this book on tape with my three kids. They were intrigued with the story. I thought it would be too scary, but they loved it. Their favorite parts, which have become family inside jokes, were when the rats sang about their tails and eyes. The tapes' voices were EXTRA creepy! My husband even tucked in one of my kids with buttons taped to his eyes. Talk about screaming! :)

I think that is cool that you did that as a family! And the eye thing is really cool. I remember as a kid we would listen to stories on records!
