Father Benedict Groeschel, a prominent friar, television host, and director of the Office for Spiritual Development for the Catholic Archdiocese of New York, gave an interview to the National Catholic Register this week. It's been taken down — why? Probably because Groeschel claimed that "in a lot of cases" of abuse, "the youngster... is the seducer." And expressed sympathy with Jerry Sandusky.

More School Cheating Seen, Including in Achievers
By RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA

Recent examples suggest a worsening problem, and experts blame schools, parents and technology.

Say what? So they don't blame the students?

TawNub, I read about that in the local weekly...

Arkansas Times writes "Republican Extremists, in their own words"

They think he's off his rocker, too. I and likely most Arkansans I know would pay no mind to what this fool has to say (except to remind other Republicans to vote him out of office next term). If they're smart (and he's in a largely divided district, great activity from Dems and Repubs both), they'll vote for Copenhaver next go-round.

Dang, it's in the water everywhere.

Freshman Rep. Roger Rivard (R-Rice Lake) [Wisconsin] explains that his father warned of the dangers of premarital sex since “some girls rape easy.”

From the Journal Sentinel …

“He also told me one thing, ‘If you do (have premarital sex), just remember, consensual sex can turn into rape in an awful hurry,’ ” Rivard said. “Because all of a sudden a young lady gets pregnant and the parents are madder than a wet hen and she’s not going to say, ‘Oh, yeah, I was part of the program.’ All that she has to say or the parents have to say is it was rape because she’s underage. And he just said, ‘Remember, Roger, if you go down that road, some girls,’ he said, ‘they rape so easy.’

“What the whole genesis of it was, it was advice to me, telling me, ‘If you’re going to go down that road, you may have consensual sex that night and then the next morning it may be rape.’ So the way he said it was, ‘Just remember, Roger, some girls, they rape so easy. It may be rape the next morning.’

Both Fuqua and Hubbard are mentioned in the Times' article. On behalf of my state and the good people living here, I'm embarrassed by their bass-ackwards thinking.

scherzo♫ (pjreads) Anti-Gay Group Finds "Homosexual Agenda" in School Lunch Room

Anti-gay activists tend to find evidence of the "homosexual agenda" lurking around every corner: in Teletubbies, Campbell's Soup, even American Girl dolls. Most recently, though, they've focused their attention on programs designed to combat bullying in schools, which they see as a dangerous movement to bring impressionable youth into the gay lifestyle.

We had the opposite of dead today. Non-stop calls for the 7,5 hours I had to work today. I was actually relieved one of our customers got so angry I got to fill out the verbal abuse form (he didn't get personal, just threatened to come over to get his money). Finally, some time to myself.

message 535: by [deleted user] (new)

Janine, I know what you mean. I have days where I'm slammed, some times of the year are always worse than others. Like, the end of the year, or the two weeks leading up to the tax deadline. The upside to a busy day is that it passes a lot faster! The down side is that if they don't give me a break to eat...I get mean.

message 536: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments It does pass a lot faster. And I don't have to worry about anyone stealing my breaks, or working overtime, or anything similar to that. Those things don't exist in my world.

message 537: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, well, we're pretty lax around here. They never complain when I'm late (nearly every day), and they almost always let me leave early if my one late-staying boss is on vacation or golfing. So, I don't complain about the odd day I don't get to eat until noon (I start work at 6:30 am, usually eat lunch about 10:00-10:30). I do get a little mean though. Snippy.

I'm like a baby, if you keep me fed, watered and dry; I'm only ever continually sweet and kind.

scherzo♫ (pjreads) $500,000 payment of Florida taxpayer money to principal of failed charter school

A Florida state senator is calling for an investigation into the payout of more than $500,000 to the principal of a failed Orange County charter school.

A school board chairman blasted the payout of taxpayer money, which has sparked outrage in Orlando, as “immoral and unethical.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kelly Young, principal of NorthStar High School in Orlando, received a check for $519,453.96 in June, about the same time the Orange County School Board accepted the school’s plan to close in lieu of being forced to shut down based on declining student achievement, The Orlando Sentinel reported.

The Sentinel also reported that Young was “still being paid thousands of dollars a month” at the time to complete the school’s affairs. The school serves about 180 students in east Orange County. ...

I sometimes catch myself becoming a little agressive towards customers after working all day. But then a very sweet 93-year-old lady calls. I'm always extra nice to sweet old ladies. Sometimes they just need someone to listen to their stories.

A six-months pregnant Mesa (Arizona) woman was arrested Saturday after she allegedly chased her husband around a Gilbert parking lot in an SUV during an argument over the presidential election.

The woman finally ran over her husband, leaving him with critical injuries.

According to a Gilbert police report, the argument started over her husband's lack of voter participation in the recent election.

Holly Solomon, 28, apparently believed her family was going to face hardship as a result of President Barack Obama's re-election.

Solomon's husband, Daniel Solomon, told police his wife "just hated Obama" and was very angry he was re-elected and blamed the President for problems her family is going through.
