For a Q author there is Amanda Quick who is a penn name for Jayne Ann Krentz. I think she writes historical romance.
For U there is Thrity Umrigar. She writes stories set in Bombay. For V, I haven't read one yet but I am planning on reading something by Kurt Vonnegut based on ratings.
For X I'm reading Malcolm X.
For Q I have on my schedule to read something by Raymond Queneau who has good ratings I'm going to use Amanda Quick now though as a choice. (Thanks for that recommendation, Nan)
for V I'm planning to read Voltaire.Vonnegut I read las year and I loved it.
For X I read Qiu Xiaolong last year, it's a chinese crime novel.
For V, I read Celestine Vaite's Frangipani. Great book. I also read Amanda Quick for Q...OK read I thought, but it fit the challenge because I've never read her before. If you want another Q choice (and wouldn't mind Historical Romance) you could always go with Julia Quinn. She's better.
For U, I'm going with Updike and Xiaolong for X.
My Q author is going to be Daniel Quinn, author of Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit. There are a lot of good V authors.
Catherynne M. Valente (personal favorite)
Jack Vance
Jeff VanderMeer
Vernor Vinge
I found a great book for X. Sky Burial by Xinran. I loved it and wouldn't have discovered it if I hadn't been looking for an X book.
