We don't know how much and how often Hugh communicates with Roland. Erra stated that Hugh was keeping secrets. How did she know that Hugh automatically knew where Kate was and didn't say anything? That says to me that Hugh is supposed to have an almost infinite knowledge of what is going on. Hugh hasn't told Roland about Kate so Roland isn't going to be giving Hugh instructions to do something against someone he doesn't know about.

True, but my point is Kate specifically asked if Hugh was bound, and was told yes. This means he can keep secrets if Roland does not specifically ask him things - he would not have to tell Roland anything unless he was commanded to. If Hugh and Roland were to meet face to face, and Roland told Hugh to stab himself to death, or stab Kate to death, Hugh would have to do it. (view spoiler) This means that Hugh is a liability to Kate if they go face to face with Roland. This is why I said earlier that if Hugh is to help Kate, he has to do it behind the scenes, i.e. where Roland can't tell him different.

As much as I love Curran, Derek and the world building, I hope IA know when to end the series. I rather want a series to be finished when it's still good and everything makes sense instead of getting more books of inferior quality. Not saying this has to be the case with the KD books but that's how I see it.
Though to not risk having to hurt Kate, assuming he doesn't want to, Hugh is going to have to keep her location to the bitter end. Though I wonder why Roland doesn't have a blanket order out there stating that if you find my lost child bring her to me. Not sure how Hugh could fight something like that.Do we know what happens to the bonded on death? I mean what happens to Hugh if Roland kicks it and to Julie if/when Kate dies?
I would assume that since the controller is gone, the controllees are released. There was never any indication that they would die with the bonder.
We did a lot of speculation on this in the Hugh thread. Hugh is cautious and likes to gather all available information before he acts on it. So the fact that he may not have gone to Roland immediately is not out of character. However, I think we can all agree that Roland is now fully aware of Kate's existance and that she's using his magic. I think the flowers that Kate receives from Hugh at the very end of Magic Slays are no coincidence. Either Hugh is just messing with Kate's head, or it's his subtle way of saying "We know where you are and we'll be coming after you." The fact that Kate is in so deep with the Pack may be what has saved her up until now. Roland or Hugh might manage to take out one single female without too much trouble, but now it would mean war with the Pack and they may not be ready for that just yet (though I think it will come in the last book).
I'm not sure about what happens with the blood bond when the holder of the bond dies. I would hope that the bonded one would be free, but I wouldn't be surprised if they died along with the holder (since maybe their blood or lifeforce or whatever is so deeply linked). Since Roland's the only other one who can do this and he's been around for about a million years, I don't think there's any way to know the answer.
Well, this is my vision of who ends up with who, and what happens in the big battle. It's just a quickie, but that's OK.

I love derek! lol I think he's my favorite male character. Sweet cheeky kid.On the alpha stepping down when their mate died--The alpha mate stepped down when their mating and alpha status wasn't complete yet and the alpha died. Daniel and Jennifer were established, having a kid. I wonder if someone will challenge her while she is pregnant? hmmm . . . Voluntarily stepping down doesn't seem to be an option, but who knows. Curran is a progressive beast lord.
She could go crazy because of all the death's in her recent life. then I could see Derek stepping in after she dies or is put in a loup cage permanently.
I am absolutely a Derek/Julie fan. It just can't happen now, cause she's too young. She will leave to go to the order school or something like that, or she will leave because of a falling out with kate. I have some theories about kate and julie's relationship going awry when Julie finds out about the "being a slave" thing. She'll be gone for 2 or 3 years, comes back with an edge to her, 20+ years, and Derek sees her differently. boom. lol
I enjoyed Derek in Andrea's book but there was not enough of him. I hope we see more of him in the next KD book.
Yeah I hope so too! There was not really much of anyone except Andrea and the Boudas in this book.
I just love Derek. To be honest, he's one of my favourite characters but I can't really decide. He's just cute and badass an just Derek. There isn't any other word to describe him. What I like is that he is like a son for Curran and a good friend of Kate.
I really like Derek. He's one of my favorite characters! I kind of want him to get his own story one day!
