We Carry the Sea in Our Hands by Janie Kim
The start of the book was shaky but the second half redeemed it, and how!

Miss Kim Knows and Other Stories by Cho Nam-Joo
If you liked this author's seminal feminist work 'Kim Jiyoung Born 1982', you shouldn't miss her latest work, a short story collection.

I’ve read a lot of books, but "The Examination Hall" by F.D. Miller? It hits different. 😭 The poetic storytelling, powerful social message, and emotional highs and lows will have you reaching for tissues at every turn. And it’s FREE on Kindle! Even without Unlimited, you can dive into this incredible story. Highly recommend!https://www.amazon.com/EXAMINATION-HA...
A Council of Dolls by Mona Susan Power
A powerful OwnVoices historical literary fiction. A must-read.

Hello there! I've recently finished reading Where I'm Coming From by Barbara Brandon-Croft. Excellent comic strips which are more on point now than ever. Thanks!
Guatemalan Rhapsody: Stories by Jared Lemus
A set of literary short stories set in Guatemala. OwnVoices. Great writing, mixed endings.

Who Wants to Live Forever by Hanna Thomas Uose
One of the most thought-provoking debuts I have read. Had the ending worked better for me, I'd have gone even higher in my rating.

Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor
Loved the idea, liked the execution. Better for lit fic and family drama readers than for sci-fi readers.

Banned Together: Our Fight for Readers' Rights edited by Ashley Hope Pérez
As you might guess from the title and tagline, this is one outstanding collection of essays and other pieces by minority writers. This is not literary fiction, but it is essential fiction for all BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ voices.

I recently read The Death of Vivek Oji The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi. It is such a beautifully written story. I found myself glued to this book from the very start. You cannot help yourself from forming a very soft spot for the character of Vivek in your heart. I don't think I've liked a character this much in a very long time. I found the writing to be compelling and it kept me wanting more. Although fair warning- it will leave you grieving for days after you finish the story.

What Remains After a Fire: Stories by Kanza Javed
This is, by far, the best short story collection I have read in a long time, OwnVoices or otherwise.

Thanks so much for this. I never heard of this book before. (Shocker). Was not on my radar. I’m going to include this in a future book poll. 👍🏽

It is a new release and by a debut author. So I guess it isn't getting much attention. But it deserves every bit of acclaim. I truly enjoyed it, and hope you do too. :)

A classic work by an acclaimed Indian author, but it needed better translation.
