What's Your Favourite Aussie Movie or Television Show? What are you watching now?
Aussie move, The Club, based on a John Williamson play. Graham Kennedy plays a Aussie Rules club President, confirming he is a gifted actor. John Howard, plays the athlete, with the aloofness, superiority, cluelessness, often the curse of the committed athelete. Why study, I am going to play for Australia! And, why talk to you? I can run faster than you! Ever wondered what goes on behind these closed doors? John Williamson, squeezes the door open, and my God, it's like watching a train-wreck, and enough dirty laundry spills out to fill the Tah Mahal.
Walking Dead mid season finale next week. Oh no.
The walking dead for sure, though still need to catch up from start of season 3, Foxtel IQ helps with that. Can't wait to get home and watch back to back episodes.
I caught up on the Walking Dead, way better season than 2, I'm suprised the Governor is such a notable character, he's a bit dull. No doubt he'll go off the deep end though.What was the episode that shattered you Jess? Edit: I'm guessing it was Lori...
Also I recently saw the Black Mirror series, episode 1 is one of the best hours of TV I've ever seen (A guy abducts the Princess then makes the sole demand that the britsh PM must shag a pig, live on tv that day). Dark, odd and awesome.
Yep, Lori. If that didn't move you, you're a robot. I like The Governor. Ive finished his arc in the comics and he is way more crazy there. However, I like the seedy, calm, will-slowly-loose-it Governor we see in the tv show. I think David Morrisey is perfect. Im also incredibly impressed with Andrew Lincoln as Rick this season.

I'm thinking the new Aussie drama "A Place to Call Home" on channel 7 sounds interesting, but not sure whether I want to get involved with another series - I tend to get so involved in TV programs that I don't like to miss episodes, which can be problematic if life gets busy!! I'm already going to be watching Downton Abbey & there's another period drama on channel 9 that looks like it might be good - Paradise something??? But I do need to draw the line somewhere!
Puberty Blues definitely, loved it. Call the Midwife - I love Downton Abbey but Call the Midwife is a far superior show IMHO.
I agree, Emma-Louise - I loved Call the Midwife! Not that it or Downton Abbey are Australian! :-P I haven't seen any ads for another series of Call the Midwife... Has anyone else?

That's good to know, Jo. It's on my TBR list and it's disappointing if the book isn't as good as the show/movie. Of course, normally it's the other way around, but my most recent disappointment in a book after enjoying a movie was The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - I think the person who saw the potential after reading that book is a genius! As are the scriptwriters who transformed a very ordinary book into a great movie!
I have just finished the exotic marigold. I saw the film first then read the book. The film changed a character compleatly with norm.

I'm going to probably be boring, but I can't get past the first Mad Max movies, and thought Brides of Christ was well done for a mini series. I also liked Sirens and oh, Chopper Reed. Oh, and gosh, one of my favourites is Nemo.Mmmm I don't watch much television though.
And we can't forget the Thorn Birds mini series...

My favourite Aussie movie is The Year My Voice Broke with a young Noah Taylor, Ben Mendlesson and the gorgeous girl playing Freya. Can't remember her name.
Whenever Im feeling down or stressed by year 12 I like to watch a bit of Seinfeld. Love it.
Seinfeld or Friends were always my chill-out viewing. Or Daria.Australia-wise, I loved Newstopia. Also Myles Barlow's Review.

Myles Barlow's Review is amazing! Im laughing just thinking about it. He was also in a few other great shows, notably A Moody Christmas. Probably the best Australian TV show in years. Recently I saw the Spring Breakers, probably the best movie I've seen all year. The more I think about it, the better it gets.
My favourite Aussie movie is Rabbit Proof Fence.
Just recently finished watching all three seasons of Game of Thrones, but my partner and I have gotten into a routine of watching en episode of Married with Children almost every night :)
Not really Aussie, but I just got done watching the first series of Vikings, which has an Aussie playing the main character.
I want to, it looks pretty great.

So, I just reviewed all 15 pages for good Australian TV shows and movies. I got a lot of new stuff to try out so, thanks! Did anyone mention The Man From Snowy River and The Coca-Cola Kid under movies? These were both great but I'm not sure if they're made in Australia. I also just finished watching the I Rock season 1 episodes on Hulu (too bad it didn't get renewed) and thought it was very well done. What other good shows and movies were made in Australia that focus on or show parts of the music scene? Or, for that matter, how about some more of the older films as well?

Great! That's two more for my list. I'm in the US so I'm hearing about a lot of these for the first time. There's a lot of heart in Austrialian productions.
My favourite Aussie movie is 'Summerfield' which was made back in 1976 in Victoria and starred Nick Tate as a supply teacher who is sent to a school in a remote rural community because the existing teacher has gone missing. It's a mystery that the Nick Tate character slowly unravels but then there's a truly jaw dropping twist at the end that I didn't see coming. Great script, great acting, great location, although with a subject at its center that makes it all rather uncomfortable as well. A film that treats its audience with intelligence. I'd highly recommend it.
As for Aussie TV shows ... well I liked 'Police Rescue' and I love the new 'Wentworth'. But I have a huge soft spot for 'Sons and Daughters' particularly the first three seasons with Pat the Rat and all her shenanigans. I never really bought the whole plastic surgery turning into Alison Carr stuff. Patricia will always be the villian of the piece for me, a truly original soap bitch and soap Queen who could not be followed. I hear that the actress who played her, Rowena Wallace, has fallen on hard times financially. That's a real shame because that role should've made her for life.
Went to Catching Fire last night. Very true to the book, and a really good follow on to The Hunger Games. We took our son's mates for his 18th, and I think he was the only one who had actually read the books. When it finished they were all "You're kidding! It finishes there?" I did suggest that the third book is already written, so reading the books might be a reasonable option if they can't bear to wait a year and a half for Mockingjay :)
Also saw Catching Fire with a few friends. Very, very good adaption. It far surpasses the first movie in my opinion.

What's the Dish about?
The Dish is the story of the moon landing. But from the perspective of the people around the radio telescope in Parkes in NSW which ended up assisting in transmitting the images of the moon landing. It far surpasses the first movie in my opinion."I saw Hunger Games this year on a rental...I was so disappointed with it (won't spoil for people who haven't seen or read the books) and hope to agree that it'll be better than the first installment.
But I always have problems when seeing a book become a movie or a TV show because of what they change or drop due to different reasons.
I've watched over 5 seasons of Parks and Recreation in the past week. Absolutely hilarious.
