Mandapanda re New Releases function

I actually read about it in my updates. Another group mod was talking about the feature. So far I haven't seen a button or link that takes you to the new release page in any of the main Goodreads pages (e.g. profile page, home page etc). Has anyone else seen a link?

I think it is quite new and they are still working on it. I certainly have had a problem with the large number of 'NOT A BOOK' items listed in my new release section which I have talked about in the Goodreads Feedback group.

message 103: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) So far it only went out, at least as an email, to librarians and members of the Feedback group. Feedback is a neat group and a good place to learn all sorts of stuff about how to use this site more effectively - I recommend you do consider joining it.

message 104: by Mandapanda (new)

Mandapanda I fixed the problem with the NOT A BOOK recommendations in my new releases page. What I had to do was search 'My Books' for "Not A Book'. I found one book with those words instead of the author's name so I deleted the book. About 24 hours later when the system must have reset all the NOT A BOOK recommendations had gone. Hurray!

Velvetink | 136 comments Mandy, where is the link/page where you apply to be a GR Librarian?

Thanks

How to apply to be a Goodreads Librarian

That's the application page, but there's lots of info on being a librarian. There's even a Librarian Manual which I've only read bits of. I just started off small editing books for our bookshelf. I hate when our Aussie books have no description or bookcover photo, so that's what I do most of the time as a librarian. There's actually a Goodreads Librarians group if you want to join. I find a lot of their conversations way over my head but some of them are interesting.

Velvetink | 136 comments Thanks Mandy ~ have to say you do a fantastic job! It annoys me too when there is no description or cover image.
Thanks again.

Jan (auntyjan) How do you get the Goodreads newsletter? Can you get it sent to your inbox? I've heard about this mysterious newsletter with a supposed readership of three and a half million, but if they're all having as much trouble as me, no-one will be reading it at all. I accidentally stumbled upon it once, but was unable to repeat the action, or even go back to it.

I get one every month to my inbox (normal email), but I can't remember if I subscribed to it or not. Maybe check out your profile section, and see if there's a place to subscribe....

message 110: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmmmmm I just get the news letter emailed to me monthly also. I will look into it for you Jan it is probably in your profile settings somewhere.

Mandapanda Jan wrote: "How do you get the Goodreads newsletter?..."

Hi Jan,

Look at the top right of your screen and run the cursor (little arrow) over your name (where it says 'hi Jan'). Click on 'my account'. Do you see all the tabs that appear just below the words 'my account'? Click on the one that says 'notifications'. The very first box says "Send me the monthly Goodreads Newsletter with all the latest movers & shakers and author interviews". Click on that box so a green tick appears.

Scroll down about one third of the page and you'll see a gray box that says 'save email settings'. Click on that to save any changes you've made.

There are lots of customisations you can make on your Account Page. Have a play with all the different choices.

The Notifications section is about what information you receive from goodreads and from your groups, friends or followers. The Feeds section is about what information is sent to your friends or followers. i.e. You can adjust which actions of yours are notified to others.

message 112: by Mandapanda (new)

Mandapanda I just noticed on the 'My Account' page that there is a new tick box for receiving the "New Releases" email. Click on that if you want to receive the monthly New Releases email from Goodreads. There is also a 'preview' option that will explain the new releases function to you and a 'customise' option that allows you to configure the information that's sent in the email.

Joanne (goodreadscomjovo) | 262 comments Now there's a challenge... a story written in typo-pics! Like those secret drawings we used to get in kids' activity books, with pictures replacing some of the words.

Over to the experts!

message 130: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (goodreadscomjovo) | 262 comments Gail "cyborg" wrote: "Well goodness me. An endless supply of expressions. XD"

It is fascinating. But I think it kind of defeats the purpose of a smiley face being shorthand to express a feeling. It'd take ages to type all those keystrokes in and get them right!!

But it's interesting what people can communicate with shapes. (Just spent a minute or two trying to figure out XD" and realised the last part is HTML!!!
So much for that!!

message 131: by Neko (new)

Neko yeah is hmtl code..ahaha

most of those smilies i just put up are from Japanese online communication..I guess you could say..But they do span over to the world wide community as well :) And really become second nature in no time.

message 132: by [deleted user] (new)

No sweat Joanne I like the expressions they are just something to play with. They sometimes help to get across how serious you are being when you make a comment. I'm never serious so I stick with smiley faces and big grins. :D

Very clever Gail!!! I'm afraid I would get very frustrated, as it takes me a bit to decipher them!!! :)

message 134: by [deleted user] (new)

It takes you time to decipher the pictures? Or create them. I cheated and did a quick copy and paste.

message 135: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79969 comments Mod
Takes me time to decipher the pictures, so if it was written solely in those, I'd probably give up in disgust (at myself)..:)

message 136: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) Since I had enough $$$, I went to a place where the sun set behind the mountains /\*/\/\It was a beautiful place and that was where I met a very special man :) and we walked through a gate!!!#!!! and there we had our first kiss. }{.....:D:D:D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 138: by [deleted user] (new)

The ones I posted were my handy work or just things I picked up along the way. I meant when I wrote the story I copy and pasted Adele's cat and her spider from msg 131. The fish was mine. :D
