The Last of Mr Norris and Good-Bye Berlin by Chistopher Isherwood. I much preferred the latter.

I just finished THE NEW YORK TIROLOGY by Paul Auster. Not the best book I ever read but I will give him another try.
I finished Crash by Ballard this evening. I can sum up the novel in these words which appear continuously: stylised flowering wounds automobile crash logic death. I felt alienated by it as I don't drive and never have had.
Stacie - what did you think of Babbitt? I have it on my shelf and was thinking of picking it up after I finish The Bluest Eye.
Quicksilver and The System of the World by Neal Stephenson, I didn't like it. It was to shattered for me.
Junky The Definitive Text of JunkI don't get it. I'll have to go home and read the blurb in 1001-B to see what they think makes it a must read. I say skip it. A QUICK read though...
Also, nothing experimental (akin to Naked Lunch or other William S. Burroughs titles) here.
Finished 'Brideshead Revisited' by Evelyn Waugh today, coincidentally for another book group. Not really seeing what's so great about the book. I had to push myself to finish, luckily it's only 350 pages.
I just finished Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams. It was terrific and very funny in parts.
I just finished Love in the Time of Cholera. It was enjoyable enough but will not make it onto my favorites list. It was beautifully written and the characters were well drawn, but it really didn't have much of a plot. I felt that the view we were allowed was very narrow. I did find the latter third of the book to be very touching and that portion will probably linger in my mind.I found the writing was very different from the magical realism in Marquez's 100 Years of Solitude. I didn't enjoy this book nearly as much as I enjoyed 100 Years, probably because 100 Years had much more going on in it.
I just finished I'm Not Scared. It was very quick, I read it all today. I probably wouldn't have heard of it if not for this group, and I really liked it.
Kristi, I read the description of I'm Not Scared and it sounds like the plot of an Italian movie I saw once. I don't remember if the title is the same, but the movie was really good.
Just finished The Handmaid's Tale for another group read here at Goodreads. I enjoyed it a lot - recently read Stolen Innocence about Warren Jeffs and his sect and I see a lot of similarities...!
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It was an easy read and while I read it I thought it was so-so, but afterwards I find myself thinking about it a lot.
Denise, I believe that it was a movie also. It was written in Italian, and I think the movie was in Italian, too. I just finished The House in Paris.
Just finished The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. I thought it was okay; nothing to really get excited over. I really thought I'd like it more, but it was a pretty quick read, so I have absolutely no complaints. It's not like I wasted my time.
Jon wrote: "I read A Home at the End of the World A Novel Michael Cunningham- ..."You should read Flesh & Blood - it's my favorite Cunningham
Finally finished The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. It seems like it took me a while. Great book!
Finished Wild Decembers by Edna O'Brien last night. Not a list book but O'Brien has three books on the list. Most recently finished list books are Voltaire's Candide and At the Mountains of Madness by H. P. Lovecraft.
I just finished the Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie, which I LOVED! Now I want to read more of her books (because, you know, my to-read list isn't long enough)
Linda wrote: "Stacie - what did you think of Babbitt? I have it on my shelf and was thinking of picking it up after I finish The Bluest Eye. "Linda, I was not a fan of it. I don't want to deter you from reading it, but if you have other books to read, I would suggest picking those up first. :)
Emma wrote: "Finally finished The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. It seems..."I loved Kavalier & Clay and highly recommend The Yiddish Policemans Union also. Other Chabon books I've tried to read were just okay but these latest two seem to be a writer finding his voice.
In the last week I've read Mao II by Don DeLillo and How Late it Was, How Late by James Kelman. The first one was okay but the Kelman was amazing.
I just finished the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I started Lady Chatterley Lover last night.
Just finished Fanny Hill, or Memoirs of a woman of Pleasure. I didn't enjoy it a lot but appreciate why it's on the list and it was somewhat interesting to read.
I just finished Watership Down. I know it's not on the list, but it should be. Talking Rabbits... HA!
Dean wrote: "Emma wrote: "Finally finished [b:The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay|3985|The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay|Michael Chabon|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1226......"Dean, thanks for the recommendation. My copy of Kavalier & Clay included at the end an excerpt of the first 6 pages from The Yiddish Policemen's Union and I was definitely drawn in. Before this I had only seen, and enjoyed, the Wonder Boys movie.
The Remains of the Day. I found myself chuckling out loud quite a bit while reading this, and I found several passages I wanted to read to my coworkers, much to their dismay. Great development of the character's voice. I would definitely recommend this fun read!
I just finished Anna Karenina. I read this in high school and hated it. This time I listened to it in audio. It was long (36 hours!), but beautifully narrated by Davina Porter. Not sure if it was because I listened to it this time, but I really enjoyed the book - great classic and worth another read if you didn't like it the first time around. I also finished The Handmaid's Tale (which was pretty good) and The Virgin Suicides (only so so for me). OK - enough depressing books about women's lives - I'm starting The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for something light and funny.
I just finished East of Eden and I gave it five stars. It will be one of those books like Heart of Darkness, Crime and Punishment, and Brave New World that will stick with me for a long time.

I really liked it. It's a short read only about 200 pages so I read it in one sitting. It's one of the books I would never have picked up if it hadn't been for this book group but I'm really glad I did.
John wrote: "I just finished East of Eden and I gave it five stars. I found the character development of Cal and Aron thoroughly unbelievable, which I'm sure is not the case with the book. It's like they switch places overnight, with Aron going from golden boy to surly and vice versa with Cal.
