Just read The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster. Lingering questions remain.

Lolita...despite the subject of the book, I found it an engaging, darkly humorous read that actually went very quickly for me! Also finished a very HEAVY, non list book read, The Lion & the Throne: The Life & Times of Sir Edward Coke....
Cain by José Saramago. A bizarre, surrealist take on the familiar story. Not really sure what to make of it, though it was a fun read.
Heh, I actually liked it, even if I found parts heavy handed.
The Grapes of Wrath. It was terrible, it was beautiful and I cried like a baby. True Steinbeck all around.

I finished reading Honore de Balzac's Pere Goriot. It was interesting, a lot better than Cousin Bette IMO (which I believe isn't a list book, but anyway)
Just finished Amok and Other Stories by Stefan Zweig (of which only Amok is on the list). I definitely enjoyed this suicide-centric collection, although it was definitely a bit of a downer after House of Mirth!

Cheery, lol. I'm curious now that I see it described thus

I just finished The Good Earth, VERY good, surprisingly fast read. It read, like a fable almost.....
Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto My first Japanese novel. It was a quick read focused on loss of loved ones and recovery... with humor and love. Enjoyed it.

LOVED IT!!! *****"
I loved it, too! Great mystery.
Sadly, I believe the author died recently.
Casey wrote: "Pamela...it was tortuous"Clarissa is 4x its length and also, unfortunately, on the list. Albeit a little easier to bear, his longwindedness never quite goes away.

Eek! 4x the length of Pamela? I don't know how I am going to get through something else by him. Will probably have to take it in small doses over a long period of time.
I'm about halfway through and it's taken me roughly 3 months of nothing but this book. Although I adore Lovelace's scheming I wonder how it made Boxall's list.
I've not been reading list books lately, but I did sneak in the very short and fun book, The 39 Steps. Not entirely sure why it's on the list, but I enjoyed it.
I've finished my brief sojourn in Massachusetts with Ethan Frome. What a sorry tale! Something happy and jolly next please?
I've recently finished Rob Roy (boooooring) and Everything That Rises Must Converge delightfully grim).
I recently finished 1984. Very much enjoyed it, but it startles me to realize how close we are coming to living in a world just like the book describes. Crazy.
Jonpaul wrote: "I just finished Breakfast at Tiffany's and found it terrific."One of my favorite movie's but have yet to read the book. Looking forward to this one. Glad to hear it was enjoyable.
Mike wrote: "Les Miserables. 1400+ pages! Woohoo!!!! (#108 for me- original list)."Woohoo is right! Congratulations!
Finnegans Wake. What an effort, an accomplishment I never thought I would complete but it was worth the work.
E.M. Forster's "A Room With A View". This was much lighter reading than I expected. Enjoyed it but once I realized this wasn't some ponderous novel, I expected it to have a few more sillier moments. Still, a very good read.
