THat is one of my favorite books of all time. I think I am going to reread it before the movie comes out.
My favorite author (John Green) just did a discussion of it on his Crash Course Literature YouTube channel and it was absolutely enlightening.

Old Robert Redford movie.
From the new list, just finished The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides. Liked it http://bethslistlove.wordpress.com/20...

Our Mutual Friend -DickensI think this makes it all of the Dickens on the list for me, and probably my favorite up there with Bleak House and Nicholas Nickleby.
Colleen wrote: "Finished Candide by Voltaire. An enjoyable and quick read. Pleasantly surprised :)"Colleen I a glad you mentiond this one -was looking for something not too long, and I just downloaded a free version from Amazon for my kndle.
Finished Garden, Ashes by Danilo Kis. It was great. It is in a challenging stream-of-consciousness style of writing that many do not like.
I just finished a couple of books from the list: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (I have absolutely no idea how this one made it onto the list), Veronica decides to die (same here), Siddhartha (I really enjoyed it), The Sense of an Ending (brilliant), The Relcutant Fundamentalist (awesome), The History of Love (fantastic) and The Thirteen Clocks (nice book, but not sure why it is on the list).
Finished The Garden Where the Brass Band Played by Vestdijk, a love story which begins when the hero is 7.
Finished The Golden Ass by Apuleius which I would have given 5* to if it hadn't been for the too modern translation which jarred in places.
Just finished American Rust by Philip Meyer. It was one of the more disappointing books that I have picked up just because they were on the list.
I just finished Wise Blood. Did not enjoy it and I don't understand why half the events happened. On to the next one.
Karina wrote: "I just finished Wise Blood. Did not enjoy it and I don't understand why half the events happened. On to the next one."I felt the same way about Wise Blood.
I just finished The Age of Innocence. I can't believe it took me this long to discover Edith Wharton...she's a wonderful writer.

I just finished A Tale of Two Cities. I'm speechless and have classified it as a book I will read again and again. LOVED it. I'm also taking a French Revolution course currently, and this was the perfect supplement.
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. My 2nd Murakami. Didn't enjoy nearly as much as 1Q84. This one was too mystical for me - the magical realism too magical, and the way the surreal meets up with the real during the conclusion just too odd.

Even though it seemed like most people prefer liked Wind Up Bird.
I just finished The Picture of Dorian Gray. I was looking forward to this one but it didn't really draw me in. I did like the witty parts involving Lord Henry though and the book gave me much food for thought on the condition of our souls and our desires.

Oh good! I was actually startled after I finished WUBC, reviewing what people had to say who'd read both, how many people felt the opposite. I'm going to try Kafka on the Shore next, but for now taking a break - with an Austen and a Bronte.
I just finished The 13 Clocks and The Wonderful O both by James Thurber. They were super short and entertaining reads.
