Finished Albert Angelo by Johnson, and started Trawl. Picked up an omnibus which also includes House Mother Normal.

I also loved this book when I read it some years ago. Time for a reread, I think! You've inspired me to pick it up again.
Kitchen Kitchen-Yoshimoto
Not too impressed with this little book and wonder what its merit were to make the 1001 list.....
Recently finished The Turn of the Screw which I thoroughly enjoyed, Hunger loved it, The Swarm so-so, The Life and Death of Harriett Frean, The Body Artist The History of Love and Enduring Love
Ethan Frome which was my second Wharton book from the list. Thought this was a great read and for those of you looking for a quick read to tick another book off the list, then this is it! Brilliant novella.
Annina wrote: "I did it!! I read Les Misérables!!!Finally! It took about 2 months to finish."
I'm reading it right now. Almost at a 1000 pages ... still quite a bit to go. But I like it a lot - how did you feel about it?

I'm in the middle of reading as well. Really enjoying it.

I liked it a lot, but not going to re-read it in years.. it's so long.

I just finished that as well. I agree -- not what I expected, but enjoyable.
I just finished Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind. I saw the movie several years ago and expected a book with more mystery, more plot, and faster-paced. I'm slowly learning that not every "1001 book" is extraordinary or enjoyable or good, but there is an interesting or extraordinary element in the book.
I just started and finished the novella, The Judge and His Hangman by Friedrich Dürrenmatt. Very good. Highly recommend it and it is a quick read.
Just finishd "Out of Africa". Started really well but felt like I limped to the end. As we got closer to the end my interest waned somewhat but I hate to abandon a book so I stuck it out.
Finished King Solomon's Mines - it was fun! My review is here: http://independentbookreview.wordpres...
After 4 months, I finished The Arabian Nights: Tales from a Thousand and One Nights!! Overall I enjoyed it, but I'm also glad to be done with it.
After 3 months, I finally finished The Jungle. I didn't even LIKE this book! This one I will admit I put down more often than I read. SO depressing, & the graphic gore descriptions of the cattle yards & the beef rendering plant processes I could EASILY have done without. I believe, & this is just MY opinion, that the story still would have gotten it's point across WITHOUT those stomach turning descriptives....
Recently finished a good number of books from the list: Sense and Sensibility - which was decent, not quite as good as P&P, but I didn't dislike it like I disliked other books of hers; The Book of Laughter and Forgetting - which I grew tired of really fast; Measuring the World - which was cute and amusing, but nothing too special; and A Suitable Boy - which was... long.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the GalaxyGood book. I know that the other books from the series aren't on the list, but I plan to read them....I have to know THE ULTIMATE QUESTION! lol
Just finished Amateurs by Donald Barthelme and The Judge and His Hangman by Friedrich DürrenmattBoth very quick reads
Finished Shikasta by Lessing, which was ok until it started getting preachy. Lessing on a high horse.
Confusions of Young Torless -Musiland
Where Angels Fear to Tread -Forster
Both were good, but between these two, Musil's work stood out.
I just finished Pride & Prejudice (for the 2nd time) - I must say it enjoyed it a lot more this time around. It's my first 'official' book on the list. I have read a couple of others over the years but was rather surprised to see them appear on a list like this so I thought I better give them another shot and see what I missed the first time around.

Very, very good read!"
Trollope is very good. I look forward to this.
I just finished "The Killer Inside Me". I really enjoy crime novels, so this novel was right up my alley.
Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald. It's unlikely I would have found this without the list.my review
Just finished Lolita by Nabokov. I found it a very disturbing book, yet I couldn't NOT finish it. I wanted to find out what would happen next. And I found Nabokov to be such a wonderful writer; I wondered how such wonderful words and phrasing could be applied to such a difficult topic.
I read The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka (of course) a few days ago (for university). I found it a lot more accessible than I remember it from last time (a few years ago), and actually, it's quite funny.I also finished Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie a few days ago (only took me three weeks...) and ugh I sort of want to run around and wave it at people and tell them to read it right now because it's so fantastic.
I recently finished The Count of Monte Cristo and it was delicious reading. The Drawing of the Three I finished today and the Tower is closer
Mikela wrote: "The Monk. Much better than I had anticipated."I really thought it was pretty amazing. How about the fact the author was a teenager(in today's terms)?
Mikela wrote: "The Monk. Much better than I had anticipated."I just finished this one too. I enjoyed it;just read Denise's comment about the author being a teenager. Wow! Impressive!
