Which LIST book did you just finish?

Not in and of itself, but it is book two of the trilogy Memory of Fire which is included in the list. (I just bought Book 3 for $1 at a library sale & need to track down matching copies of book 1 & 2).

Interesting. Yet another trilogy that begins to make 1001 books more like 1092 books.

None of it made sense to me. I think I rated it 2 stars, and that only because the prose was good, not because I thought the story interesting or worthwhile.

I too was puzzled by its inclusion. It was an OK story but not really in the same league as others on the list

Wells adds a nice touch of fiction to the science in all of his works and creates another good story in this with the horror of a martian attack."
I watched this movie over and over and over as a kid. I wonder if that counts so I can check it off my list? Did you see the movie? It was pretty bad. :)

I'm sorry to hear that. I have read Mary Barton,Wives and Daughters and North and South. While one may be stronger or better than the others I enjoyed them enough to give them a 3-5. Cranfordwas next on my list. Hope your next read is an enjoyable one, Elizabeth

Ho ho... the little people kept on the beat...
Where there is two moons.. !!!

Hey Deanne - I felt the same way! Not a book I would have picked up but I am glad I did!

Also recently finished The God of Small Things, which I forgot to post about.
Gave both 5 stars, although they were each closer to 4.5 for me.

I saw the Spielberg version but it lent little to the original text.

What did you think? Cruel book, ain't it?
I finished Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum, The Purloined Letter/Murders in Rue Morgue and The Fall of the House of Usher and Other Tales.
Also Silk by Alessandro Baricco and Persuasion by Jane Austen.
Got really into it this month :D

When I took a week off work, I spent my whole time reading Les Miserables. There are certainly some long-winded parts in there, but the ending is totally worth it!
I just finished Growth of the Soil by Knut Hamsum. I am surprised by how much I liked it, considering I am a young woman living in an urban area nearly 100 years later....but I really connected to the message. Makes me want to farm!

Wow! Lots of books read; I'm not worthy! : )
I didn't really enjoy Madame Bovary. It was pretty cruel; not in my top five books on this list! : )

Oh Nancy, I loved "The Waves" so much. It made me ache.

Classic, and somewhat predictable Dickens. However, he is still one of the best writers I have read. He creates memorable characters that hold up over time.

A bit confusing at times, made me reread because i lost the sense of logic, but didn't gain much afterwards. Could have been a pleasant read a few years ago, but now i'm looking for more logic than it has.

Is this on the list?

This novel can't help but be moving and emotional for an American of my generation. We all saw it re-enacted on TV so many times and read and read and read about the facts, unknowns and conspiracy theories. Settled as it is claimed to be, it is still an incredible series of events to have occurred in our country in the 20th century.

I don't think the Faces and Masks is a 1001 book, is it?
