Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Seems so much longer. I never really go to the theatres.

Lisa | 35 comments I got the first book as a Christms gift a couple years ago from a girl at work. I lucked out that New Moon was already out and Eclipse came out right after I finished Twilight. Each of the 4 have been read several times. Twilight and Eclipse and probably my favs. New Moon was the hardest to read the first time. Just because I wasn't for sure how it was going to work out with Edward and Bella being down so much. After reading and knowing it has a happy "Lisa" ending with Edward and Bella getting back together it isn't as hard to read as the first time. LOL.

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments My family totally made fun of me while I was reading New Moon, they thought I was so weird. I remember being over at my moms house visiting with my sisters, when I told them that I had to go home to read. They asked why the hurry. I told them "because I have no idea where Edward is and when he is coming back!" LOL.

Lisa | 35 comments Carri, I am pretty sure I shed a few tears at a couple points during the book. At first I didn't think I would ever reread it, but after I made myself start it the second time I realized it wasn't bad bc I knew the ending. :)

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments Ha, when I re-read it, I skipped the whole middle!

Tya | 846 comments Every time I come to this group and I scan to see what discussions are going on. I see Twilight the Twilight discussion and keep right on going...quickly. I used to LOVE Twilight. I mean...there was fan fiction, people. I was a midnight release person. Obsessed. Addicted. And then the rest of the world became addicted. And their fervor was deeper than mine and that scared me. And then they cast R. Pat as Edward and my love slowly began to die. Every new movie that comes along my love is briefly renewed...but thats mostly because Taylor Lautner is ridiculously pretty. I *hated* Breaking Dawn. It was the very first book on Goodreads that I ever gave one star to. I can't even reread the books that came before it because I *know* how it ends and it all just ticks me off.

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) I was never a big reader. When the trailer for Twilight came out I became obsessed. I went out and got the book and then preceded to devour them. Thankfully for me they were all out already. The first time through New Moon I wasn't really paying attention until Edward showed up again. :) Breaking Dawn was a big stretch for me, but all in all I love the series. I'm not going to say it's the best ever, but like many of you has a special place in my heart because it is the reason I started reading.

I really enjoyed this series. I like to refer to them as the cleanest dirty books ever written. The sexual tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife. It amuses me endlessly.

I have seen all the movies and although New Moon and Eclipse were pretty good, I was disappointed with Twilight. I think they could have done a much better job with it. Although some of the extra things they added were sort of neat, they ended up leaving out some scenes that I thought were more important to the story. That and I'm just not a big fan of Kristen Stewart (the actress who plays Bella).

Jessica Meade | 10 comments I love the Twilight Saga, I have only read it twice, unlike some of my obsessive friends I know. But its so great to read a love story such as theirs. A "modern" day Romeo and Juliet if you will. But with a better ending. With all the references to it in the book, you would at least get the idea of it. So many people love Twilight, because so many of us can relate to it. Girl, Guy, Old, Young. It applies to all of us one way or another. I had the problem that I had just finished reading the series and decided to watch the movie right after. I was so mad at the movie!! I was like Umm no!! You forgot that and this. And that can't happen yet, because you didn't do that!! I know they can't release movies that are 6 hours long, but sometimes I just wish they put more of it in there!!! Like when he gave Alice the porshe and how Alice begged for it. And Charlie is waaay more important in the story than the movie shows.

The Host sounds like my kind of read. I'm hoping I'll beable to get into it since I didn't like the Twilight Saga.

Heather (nickyblue7) i just started the Host and it seems really good and nothing like the twilight series

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Lisa S wrote: "I couldn't get into The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer"

If you can get past the first few chapters that are sort of weird, it does get really good. I had a VERY hard time with the first section of the book and thought I was going to hate it, but once Melanie/Wanda made it to the underground rebel camp, the story went from mediocre to fascinating.

I actually think that The Host was much better than her Twilight series. It seemed as if she had a bit more focus on making an engaging plot over just sticking people together and making them love each other.

The first 100 or so pages are a bit confusing and a little dull, but once the story starts to move you are sucked into the world. It's a fun take on invasion of the body snatchers or something. There is still a love triangle (or quadrangle if you will), but what I liked the most about the story were the little details. For example, like how it felt to be inside of someone's head with warring personalities, or how the aliens didn't need human medicine (they had spray cans of "heal" haha), or even how the humans in hiding had to make due with living in a cave system.

SM has tentative plans to make this into a trilogy, but has only said she wants to write the books (which she named The Soul and The Seeker), not that she will write them. The Host is in talks for a movie.

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Thanks Stacia, I may have to give it another try. I figure if i can get through The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I should be able to get through anything.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I tried that one a while ago. It was so boring, I'll be sticking to the movies.

It took me 300 hundred pages to get into that one, but one I did I couldn't turn the pages fast enough on the rest of the book and the next 2. I just watched the first 2 movies and they follow pretty close.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments See 300 pages is too long to be bored.

message 72: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I know, I would have given it up, but I was doing a buddy read, and felt guilty if I would have. But after reading it I can see why there is all the hype.

message 73: by Carri (new)

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments I gave up on that one! I gave it 150 pages and decided life is too short!

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) I didn't get past the first 100 on that one.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Made it to page 123.

message 76: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I did manage to finish, but it took forever. I also read the second one. It was a bit better, but not enough for all the hype.

message 77: by Angela (new)

Angela B I loved The Host read it once and listened to it as an audio book as well :)

I read Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and went into it knowing the begining was slow and boring and ended up not being as bored as I thought I would be. Still could have lived without the first 100 pages though
