Hi Jess. I love Isobelle Carmody too. The Obernewtyn series is aimed too firmly at the teenage-girl market for me, but the Legendsong series is one of the best I've read.

Hello :) Thanks for the invite Mandy! I think having this group is a great idea. I am a mum of four living in Perth and one of my joys is a monthly bookclub that a group of us mums has going here. We are always looking for the next (possibly contentious) point of discussion when we pick our books to read each month. So I am happy to see all the recommendations people have going here. It's much better really than going to the shops and picking a book at random, not really knowing if everyone will enjoy it.

Welcome to the group Donna. There certainly isn't any shortage of book recommendations here. The trick is to find someone with compatible tastes. I’ve been spending my time in goodreads venturing out from my usual genre of choice. I have read so many wonderful books since joining that I would never have chosen if left to myself.

Hi everyone. I'm Kate from NSW. I wish I could say I was an avid reader, I LOVE reading, but I dont find the time to read a lot of books. I'll usually read whatever crosses my path, but I mostly enjoy general fiction, crime/thrillers and a bit of romance (the Nicholas Sparks type, not so much the Harlequin type, though thats ok too. LOL) I read the Sookie Stackhouse (Southern Vampire Mysteries) series last year which really got me back into reading, I hope that by joining a group such as this I'll be encouraged to read more than a handful of books each year and find some stuff thats outside of what I normally read.

Hello everyone - it's taken me a while to work out the site and I realise I haven't followed the protocols as I've posted once or twice and not introduced myself. Thank you Mandy for the invitation - this looks like a very lively group!

I'm Jo, and I'm a writer and a constant reader from Darwin. My husband and I live on our yacht - this is our house - and we're back in Darwin for the time being, between voyages. Books are a major issue for sailors - there's never enough space! I can see Ipads and Kindles becoming the future for sailing book lovers, but they'll spell the death of the book swaps that happen at every anchorage. It's pretty rare to find a cruising yachtie who doesn't read - you get a bit desperate on those long passages without a book!

I've just bought a kindle so at the moment, when not editing my third book, I'm devouring Tessa Dare's 'Surrender of the Siren.' I also love rugby union and unfortunately for me ... am a Collingwood supporter, though I dont like footy that much.

There are two different pages for you, I think, from when I looked. There's a way to merge authors, I've actually done it once when I found a book I added to my shelf was under a new phantom entry, but I don't recall the details right now... I'll have a poke and see what I can do. I'm living proof that they hand out librarian status a little too freely around here :-)

Edit: Merged "Joanne. Van Os" and "Joanne Van Os" profiles.

As for the others... Brumby Plains should appear there once things settle down post-merger. From the Brumby Plains book entry, you can see that Outback Heart is another one of yours... but not the other way. From memory, pretty much the same thing happened when I merged the "Charles Stross" and "Stross, Charles" profiles. It'll just take a little time.

Castaway and Lonely Isles probably won't appear until someone adds them to their collections, if I remember correctly. If you want to send me bibliographic details I'd be happy to add them to my TBR list and get them in here that way.

Thanks Mandy for the invite, it's great to see all the avid readers on here. So, introducing myself. My name is Meagan; I’m 26, live in Adelaide and am a Social Worker. I’ve been an avid reader since I was able to sit and hold a book. I was told by my Mum that my first steps were towards my book box!!
My favourite Australian author of all time is Beverley Harper. She writes about Africa, but she sadly passed away in 2002. I also love Tony Park, Wilbur Smith, Bryce Courtney, Keri Arthur, Matthew Reilly and Tim Winton. I’m re-reading all the Tomorrow series by John Marsden after being inspired after watching the movie, I have an eclectic taste in books, I love reading classics, but also love the vampire romance books. I love Crime authors like Michael Connelly and Kathy Reichs. I love historical fiction and my favourite authors are Diana Gabaldon and Sara Donati. I love the Harry Potter series and am currently reading Fallen by Lauren Kate. I love seeing other people’s book reviews and tastes in reading, and especially look forward to reading more from this group 

My name is Laura & I live in the Blue Mountains although commute into the City (Sydney) everyday for work = LOTS of time to read! My favourite Australian author’s are Kim Wilkins, Kate Morton and Traci Harding. As for the international market, I have to make mention of Anna Elliott (author & friend) who writes enchanted tales woven around Arthurian legend, Kate Mosse, Philippa Gregory, Alison Weir, Charlaine Harris, Ariana Franklin, Eric Ives, Christi Phillips, Laurien Gardner, Elizabeth Kostova, Katherine Howe, Kathleen Kent, J.K. Rowling, Jane Austen, John Harwood, Fiona Mountain, Juliet Marillier, Geraldine Brooks, Kate Emerson, Deanna Raybourn, Karen Maitland & Karen Essex (to name only a few of my favourites).

I mainly read historical fiction, but I love the magical world of the Harry Potter series, the Vampiric world’s of Elizabeth Kostova’s; The Historian and Karen Essex’s; Dracula in Love as well as being a huge fan of anything (well, it must be well written) Tudor! I also do a lot of non-fiction reading relating to various interests; Tudor/Elizabethan England, Georgian/Victorian Jewellery/Fashion/History, Mourning Jewellery, Ancient Egypt (Amarna), Ancient Rome, Druid/Celt history as well as a few ancient languages (Hieroglyphics & Latin).

I’m 28 years old, work in the finance industry (but studied Ancient History at University) and love nothing more than to sit down and read a good book then review it so I can entice others to obsess over the many books I love…

Marianne de Pierres(also writes as Marianne Delacourt) is the Aussie author I recommend to anyone who asks.
Burn Bright is Marianne's Young Adult Fiction book coming out next year. The website connected to it is pretty cool, and it's the one I am most involved with.
Some other Aussie Authors I'd throw into the mix would be Rowena Cory Daniells, Kylie Chan, Trent Jamieson.
I don't know if it's a Brisbane thing, but Brissy based authors just rock!

Hi Belinda, thanks for joining up. You're right about Brisbane! (no bias here.;P) Those authors you mentioned look fantastic. I didn't know Rowena Cory Daniells or Trent Jamieson and I just found Marianne de Pierres this morning! All of them look fabulous and I'll certainly be trying out their books. I've added their novels to our group bookshelf under Speculative Fiction/YA.

I don't see them listed on the Goodreads Listopia lists: Best Australian YA Books
and Australia‘s Best Speculative Fiction.

Thanks Gail, didn't get much done on my week off, rained until Tuesday arvo, finally made it to Port Douglas Wednesday to pick up my 1st place plaque, then Thursday, about midday, removing my socks I slipped my lower disc again, so, spent the arvo, Fri, Sat & Sunday doing an 'Andy Capp' on the lounge, but did get some good reading time in, back at work now, albeit hobbling around (-:

I'm 29yo and work in administration/real estate. I'm studying conveyancing. I want to be a writer but I'm too lazy and/or disorganised to actually do it, so I read a lot instead.

I love to share books. I'm a BookCrosser and will loan and trade books from my shelf: "A book lying idle on a shelf is wasted ammunition. Like money, books must be kept in constant circulation. Lend and borrow to the maximum." - Henry Miller.

My favourite Australian authors include Peter Carey, Geraldine Brooks, and Miles Franklin. My favourite non-Australian authors are Jane Austen, Gregory Maguire, Alison Weir, Kate Mosse, L. M. Montgomery, Eric Ives, and Philippa Gregory. I mostly read hist-fic, historical biographies, and historical fantasy. I'd obsessed with Tudor England. Oh, and anything Austen. :) I also relish a good vampire story, which means I've never read the 'Twilight' saga (ha!).
