Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Oh well, maybe later. Some are better than reading the book, IMO.

Judithe | 6566 comments Hmmm...will have to check that out!

message 53: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL! Too true. Although if I'm taking my eReader out with me (which is my iPad or iPhone), I try to always make sure it's fully charged.

message 54: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurazal) LOL! Be as it may, I still can't imagine myself reading... let's say any of L. Ione paperback books in the reception room:))

message 55: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL @ you both. Dunno, Laura. Demonica would certainly ease the pain of waiting. :)

message 56: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurazal) Indeed it would, Steph!:) However, I would prefer e-book to paperback. At least then I wouldn't need to hide a cover with... ehm... some scientific newspaper or something:) Although, how to conceal drooling and dreamy-eyed look is beyond me!

message 57: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I used to carry a paperback around with me but now I take my Kindle and read every opportunity. I travel 1 hour by train to work and read on the train and now I've begun reading paperbacks on my treadmill. I'm afraid my Kindle will fall off while I'm walking.

message 58: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 612 comments I read anywhere and anytime that I can find idle times (i.e. Dr. Office).

A book away from an episode of hoarders (fidgit77) | 740 comments I pretty much have a book all the time too.

At home, I have a loveseat that came with a HUGE ottoman. I usually curl up on the loveseat with a quilt and a book. Sometimes, I lay across the ottoman on my stomach with the book on the floor (usually only with big hardback books).

At work, during lunch, I sit outside on our back steps. The door opens into the not-so-scenic alley (across from a junkyard) and the steps are concrete but its mostly quiet and somewhat hidden so I won't be bothered for my lunch hour. Also, I will neither admit nor deny that I might or might not use my kindle app during my restroom breaks at work.

I listen to an audiobook whenever I'm in the car and when I go get a pedicure, I usually bring my kindle.

message 60: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (chattymandy21) | 19 comments I have claimed the corner of our couch as my destined reading spot. My 4 year old thinks its hilarious when he steals it from me. Every now and then I claim the bedroom, but not enough natural light for me. In my "dream house" I will have an amazing library with plenty of natural light, floor to ceiling/wall to wall shelving, a bench seat with lots of cushion (within my amazing window overlooking the ocean) and a retinal scan so no one but myself can enter. selfish? I think not!

I usually read one book at a time, however there are instances that a book just doesn't grab me enough so I will pick up a second book to switch off with.

I try to leave my books at home so that I will actually do my work during the day, but as soon as I'm home, you know where I'll be!

Becky (rgile) | 1 comments Amy or "Ames" wrote: "I'm a Brit too but not all American accents get to me and some British accents don't sound right to me either, like Dawn French reading Coraline. The younger the reader the better the American accent sounds to me, not sure why."

Audiobooks are tricky beasts. I'm very particular about the accents (especially if the characters themselves wouldn't otherwise have an accent), and I have a hard time getting into an audiobook if the speaker doesn't match how I expect it to sound in my head, if that makes sense.

Also, the ereader has GOT to be the most convenient invention ever. I was on the fence about them before I took the plunge and bought one, and now it goes everywhere with me. If I don't have in it my purse, I'll turn my car around and go home for it.

Book Mad Mess (book_mad_mess) | 93 comments I have one at work I read on my lunch. Sit out under the trees during nice weather. I have two next to my bed to read at night before I go to bed. I have tried audiobooks during my commute to work but haven't done it lately. And finally, I have a book in my car usually in case I get caught somewhere like the Dr.'s Office without one.

I read in the bath too, never had an accident. I also wipe my hands if the hands get wet!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) My favorite is a big cushy recliner. I read in bed sometimes but always have to keep shifting as it can grow uncomfortable. I also love reading outside in the chair on my favorite porch, but with the heat or the constant rain it really hasn't been possible this summer. CANNOT read in the car as reading in a moving car gets me sick almost instantly.

message 65: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Welcome, Erin! I am the same. I get seriously motion sick if I try to read a book in the car. Thankfully I don't have that problem on a plane. In the car, I like to listen to audiobooks.

t'irla ~The Bookslayer~ aka Barbara (tirla) I keep trying to get into audiobooks...My husband listens all the time. I just find they make me sleepy.. I just can't keep my attention when I have nothing to look at.....but since I can't read in the car either...I get bummed out on longer trips

message 67: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments My husband enjoys audiobooks too. He has no problem just sitting somewhere listening to a book. I can't do that. I have to listen to them while I'm doing other tasks - usually laundry, errands, cleaning the house.

Adele (mooturtil) | 23 comments Sorry i have been MIA for a bit(ok maybe more than a bit, i promise not to be away for so long next time). Nice to see so many responses.

I have Just discovered a new love of Audiobooks. I'm going through the Harry Potter series(narrated by Stephen Fry). I got the complete set for my 30th birthday earlier this year..best pressie ever!

I was a bit nervous about them at first, as sometimes books make me quite emotional. but so far fellow train passengers haven't looked at me funny (that i have noticed anyway).
I have started to play my nintendo DS while listening to harry potter(i'm playing lego harry potter so it's not that confusing).Stephen fry's voice is so soothing. it's the perfect thing to listen to after a stressful day.

Hi Adele, I did enjoy my drink for your birthday. LOL

One of my good friends is also listening to Stephen Fry reading Deathly Hallows at the moment, she's loving it too.

and Thanks for joining my birthday drinks Sandra. I'm only on book 2(chamber of secrets). but soo good :o)

message 72: by Juliann (new)

Juliann Whicker | 20 comments Fun thread! I'm particularly impressed with how many people have figured out how to get so much out of their techno gadgets. I have trouble with finding the beginning of the book on my kindle. Very sad. I must become one with the future. Or something. I like reading on my kindle though. I wasn't sure I would, but my house is so full of books, there's no place to put any more. It's tricky with a kindle because it doesn't feel like you're spending money when you click 'buy', but I can save the shelf space for my pretty books. I'm going to look up the audio books in particular to download on my phone or something. I'm sure it's possible. We are star trek. Does that seem amazing to anyone else? I don't read as much as I used to. I used to read six books in a day. Quick sweets usually, but still. Reading all the time. Now I have to be careful because if I start something I have a hard time not finishing so I'm up until the wee hours of the morning.

message 73: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Adele, I just started listening to audios too! And listening to Stephen Fry reading Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I like his voice, but it might make me sleepy, lol. I've heard good things about the Potter books too, they've been added to the growing listen-to list! As if the TBR wasn't enough :)

Julian, 6 books in a day is crazy! But I understand not wanting to sleep once I start a book. I love reading in bed before going to sleep, but more often than not, it cuts into needed sleep-time!

message 84: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) I have to read pretty much flat with my head raised aka in bed.

I also can't read on any type of transport - that is my music time. I also can't listen to audio books cause I miss pages at a time day dreaming.

Generally if I have somewhere to put my feet up, I'm happy.

message 89: by Charlene (new)

Charlene Normally, I read on the sofa with my feet propped up on the coffee table, which works most of the time, but after a while, my legs go numb because, well, sometimes I don't move for hours if the book is good. Aha! I said a few weeks back. LazyBoy was having a sale on recliners that push all the way back almost flat, so I treated myself to a New Years present and ordered one. It should be in shortly so soon, I will be living the life and total vampire or shifter escapism in total comfort!!

Sandra | 25908 comments Wow Charlene, that sounds good. I suppose I could always grab the hubby's recliner, but I prefer natural light during the day and it's in the wrong spot. Don't want to rearrange the whole room. LOL

That is so cute Lisa Kay.

message 92: by Ellie (new)

Ellie | 4 comments I've never tried in the bath! Fear of dropping it! But it's tempting me now..
I like the corner of the sofa, soft blanket, hot chocolate WHAM. If it's summer you can't beat reading in a quiet garden. Little bit of shade, little bit of sun, big cold orange juice with ice. Perfectto.

message 93: by Missyb (new)

Missyb | 71 comments I've never listened to an audio book (I think it's mostly because I don't enjoy talk radio). I didn't think I'd read more e-books on my Nook then the physical book, but I think I'm at the point where I prefer my Nook. After having not read a physical book in a few months, I started a series where the first book was the physical book and it was awkward to hold the pages open and not touch the screen to change pages. I also noticed that I'm not struggling with light to be able to see the words while using my Nook, like I end up doing when reading the pyhsical book.

Usually I'm sitting and reading. Every once in a while I'll ly down, but usually prefer to sit. You will not find me underwater or floating on water while reading, I'd be to afraid of water getting on my Nook or book. I do read while in the car if on a trip & I'm not driving. But that is dependant on whether or not I have to navigate.

Emma (jellicoe112) | 5 comments Hi everyone - I carry my Kindle around with me most of the time in case I can catch a few mins of reading time. Sad to say I don't tend to buy hardcover as much anymore apart from kids books (much prefer actual books to those on the Kindle for reading bed-time stories) and cookery books which I am also addicted to! As an Audible virgin, I'm interested to see that some of you use audio books regularly. I think my hubby is going to cry if I start spending money on audio books as well as keeping up with my ebook habit! I've read about 10 books in the last 3 weeks as it is!

message 96: by Jen (new)

Jen (jadecross) | 11 comments Hey all,
Where do I read mmm, most of the time its when more then where -_-' I have a very busy apartment were it seems there is always something going on or someone is over and having some me time is starting to get hard, I don't even have kids yet :P

I'm up with the sun so if I get up on time (which is really hard for me due to my shift change) and I have coffee ready, I'll read. I have a 45 minute bus and metro ride to work so if I can get a sit I will read. If it is a slow day at work and my boss is not on my case about something I try to read a little. When there is the 45 minute metro and bus home where I will try again to read.

Once I'm home I just don't have time, till I go to bed, which is bad because I get so drawn into the story I lose track of time!

Favorite place to read would be in the bath or in bed, those seem to be the only two places where my room mates and/or my hubby will not bug me. (but even at that sometime I get bugged :P)

I have an iPad2 that goes everywhere with me, I love the thing but it sometimes is a little big. I did have a Kobo but it dead about 3 months back. oh lost loves!

I normal go those 2-5 books a week if I have time and with some vacation time coming up I'm trying to catch up on R&R.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I now have a fan to sit on my patio table, so I can read on the porch in the summer again - yay!

I am so totally reposting that cat picture on a status update lol

message 99: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Tempted By Books (michelletemptedbybooks) Hmmm, pretty much anywhere, anytime. I will read on my phone, paperback, hardcover, Ipod, MP3 player, Computer and used to on my Nook (it recently died). I read early in the morning, late at night, all day long, in bed, in the kitchen, at the table, on the floor, couch, deck, pool, ANYWHERE. Mostly because I can't stand to be without a book.

message 100: by Jamelyn (Jamie) (new)

Jamelyn (Jamie) Stokes (jamelyn) | 2 comments I will read just about anywhere in bed, on my sofa, in the car, bathtub, at work, any position, and on my iPhone, kindle, or paperback!!! As long as it is a good book, I'm good to go!:)
