Sorry. Humans only.

Terri FL (territhemuse) | 615 comments I think I'm going to do one by Ursula Hegi. Hope I'm not offending any Ursulas out there but I wouldn't want that name! Of course, I was looking an author who has my middle name (one of my grandmother's first name) which I hate but no luck so far! My other grandmother is named Thelma which would have been just as bad though.

I have to agree with you. I have Stones from the River listed as a possibility for this task, too.

Hahaha...I won't tell my little VERY Irish cousin that you wouldn't want her name. ;)

B (kristenlovesbooks) Hi Kristi! Just wanted to verify that this would work: The Best Day of Someone Else's Life The main character's name is "Kevin", she's a girl and she goes by "Vi". Thank you!

Stones from the River is a great book. I highly recommend it. Now I think I might have to dig out my copy and fit it in somewhere.

If her parents actually named her Kevin, then yes this is fine (since you're female and I'd assume you'd hate being named Kevin ;o)).

Thanks for the recommendation, Bluemoon. I'm ended up putting this one in the Recommended task (15.2) since it showed up on our list. But I'm definitely reading it! I've heard so many people say good things about it.

Thank you, Kristi! And yes, her parents did "adorn" her with that name and I definitely wouldn't want to be granted such a moniker, lol!!!

Are you for real, lol. That has to be the worst. I would so be changing my name. I have a few like that, one a friend of a friend, and the other a guy I worked with, but there names were so bad, I hesitate to post them in case someone was offended. Let's just say both were X-rated.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments My dad went to school with a girl... Her parents were having a really hard time having kids, so they made a promise to God that if they had kids, they would name them all out of the Bible. No problem, right? Lots of great classic names in the Bible, after all! Yeah, they named their daughter Dorcas and called her Dorky for short. She changed her name as SOON as she turned 18. She's "Marie" now.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I would think so, Sara, lol.

message 65: by Sara ♥ (last edited Sep 08, 2010 07:41PM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments The worst part is, I looked up where Dorcas is in the Bible, and this is what it says: (Acts 9:36, KJV) "Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did."

Sounds like a wonderful woman, really. Name your kid TABITHA, people! SERIOUSLY!

My husband and I just went through the whole baby-naming game (we settled on Ava), and we really liked the name Galen for a boy, but we also realize that to name a kid "Gay-lin" would be saying, "We don't like you, and we want you to be ridiculed your entire life." Apparently some parents don't think about things like that....

message 66: by Bluemoon (new)

Bluemoon (bluemoon286) | 1797 comments I work for a large medical practice and I see weird names everyday. I am forever saying "Why would you name your child that?" or "Where did you come up with that name?" I realize that some are ethnic and though they may sound weird to me they are probably like "John" where they come from but some of them are seriously weird.

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments This magazine found pictures/clippings of real names and added them to the top 20 worse name list.

Jed I. Knight - WHOA.

WARNING: There are some un-PG names on the list.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Still laughing Tanja!!!

message 70: by Kristina Simon (new)

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11215 comments Did these parents not go to school? Do they not remember what kids do to kids with names like this?

Although Jed I. has a ring to it... ;o).

message 71: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments You'd have to go be Jed I though, not just Jed... I think some people could pull off Jed I...

message 73: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments Tanja, doing genealogy will also bring up some unfortunate names. Gertrude Independence Earp is a big example in my family tree. But my three top favorites--1 male: Stoffel Grootneblinck --and 2 female: Tissue Flaugh (pronounced Flaw) and Fanny Longbottom

M (masanobu) I was going to read The Exception: A Novel for this task, since I wouldn't want to be named Camilla or Iben, but I wasn't sure if it is valid since there are four main characters, and all of them narrate the story.
