That's very cool Donna! Do you sell them? or just make them for yourself ?

I'd say travel is what I do when I'm not reading, but when I'm traveling I'm also usually reading, so that doesn't really work out. We just got back from London and Paris; we've done the major tourist stuff in Paris already, so we were able to spend a lot of time sitting in cafes and parks...reading. Well, reading and drinking. And speaking lousy French. Honestly, I got a much better feel for the city that way than I did visiting the Eiffel Tower, which is, of course, full of people who aren't French.
My uncle's garden an hour outside of Paris, where I did a lot of reading:

Ireland looks gorgeous. We might get to go there next spring! If we do I'll ask you for more details on your itinerary, because that abbey looks freakin' amazing.
Donna, that is really cool! Are you on Etsy?

You can buy them here:
Forever Creative
I also make ones for specific books. That one shown was made for a fellow GR'er and it was for Poison Study

And in general, I think you should make ones for big dogs that lots of people read - I'd like to say Anna Karenina but Girl Who Played With Fire is probably a wiser choice. If people knew they could get them from you, they would sell faster than you could make them. It's just a killer, killer idea.

We buy a ton of stuff from Etsy too. There's such a lot of weird ideas there...I mean, pretty much everyone in the world who's making some kind of freaky art puts it on Etsy. So if you have the patience to surf around there (which I don't, but my wife does), periodically you find something that really speaks to you; and it's usually affordable, too.

thanks!!! I made a lot of YA ones simply because we do a swap for that specific group but you are right. I think I will do a Stieg Larsson one!

Ireland looks so beautiful! How long were you there for?

Those look nice! First off, I've never heard of etsy, so I'm checking that out right now, and I'm also going to check out your nifty creations. My sister would love one!

Was there for ten days. We did a giant road trip - travelled more than 1100 miles.Had such a blast. It really is one of the most gorgeous places to visit, even though it rained EVERY DAMN DAY.

B&B's are pretty cheap and they are ALL OVER. Most of what we did was scenery/historical oriented. Didnt do any fancy dinners, mostly ate (and drank) in pubs the whole time, which kept the food pretty low too.
Having your own car makes you really flexible too, which helps. You dont have to sign up for all the tours and organized activites that cost boatloads.
They also have this cool historical society pass thingy, where it is 21Euro to buy in advance, but you get into basically every historic site/castle/church/etc. for free after that. And it lasts for a year, so you can pass it on to others if you know people going. Definitely wish i knew about that before going...

Euro apparently took a nosedive yesterday...everyone, quick go to Europe!
Thanks for the tips Bridgit, particularly about the pass! I like the driving / B&B idea; that's the kind of trip we like to take, too.

A URL is a web address. When you type something into your browser, like google.com or icanhascheezburger.com, that's a URL. Sometimes it's longer than that; for instance, the Goodreads URL in your browser right now is pretty long, because it points to this exact page, not just goodreads.com.
A link is some text you can click, like this link to Google, and it'll take you elsewhere.
So when Astrangerhere wanted to post that picture of the UNC soccer team, first she found the URL, which is:
http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2008/1207/...
If you click this link to go to that URL, you'll see that the only thing on your screen is that picture, and that exact URL shows up in the box on your browser.
Then she typed <img src="http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2008/1207/...
And that makes the picture show up in your post.
HTML is the word for...well, for making stuff like pictures and links happen. Any time you see those angle brackets - < and > - you're probably seeing HTML.
That probably didn't help much - it's a lot easier to understand when someone's showing you in person than typing at you on the web - but maybe it'll help a little bit.

Another way to upload a photo, if you have it on your computer already:
1. go to www.tinypic.com
2. Click on the "BROWSE" button and find the picture on your computer. (it is usually in the My Pictures folder)
3. Once you find the image, click on the "UPLOAD NOW" button
4. (sometimes there is a security feature where you have to type in the words that you see. If there is, type them in as you see them and then hit UPLOAD NOW)
5. The next screen should have 4 fields. the top field should read: "HTML for Website" and then there is a yellow box under it with a long code.
6. Click on the code there and copy it (CTRL + C)
7. Then, come back to your Good reads post and paste the code into the comment box (CTRL + V). That will make your photo appear here on Goodreads once you hit submit.
Hope that helps!
Brigit, I think this was a great idea for a new thread. What a great way to get to know our fellow book lovers on a more personal level!!!
Love the pictures of the kids reading! And Brigit, those photos are gorgeous. I want to see Ireland before I die!!!

From my trip to NOLA (New Orleans) last March for the NCAA men's basketball tournament

From a photoshoot I did of some friends

From the same NOLA trip as mentioned above

Taken during a convention my sorority and our brother fraternity hosted at our school

Taken at the end of an outdoor concert that concluded in the 1812 Overture, with canons, fireworks, full symphonic orchestra, and full (and huge) choir

Taken in NYC from Central Park

Sunset over the Hudson Bay in NYC on July 4, 2009

Taken in San Antonio, TX as we band members prepared for the semi-final game against UConn during the women's NCAA basketball tournament
I could go on posting pictures all day, but I think I have enough. I also used to be in marching, concert, and basketball band playing sax (tenor and bari), and I have a degree in film (it looks pretty on my wall...). Lately I've just been doing a lot of waiting.
The other big thing I did during college, though, was this:
A News Sensation
A Latte Love

HTML for Websites
IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards

Direct Link for Layouts
You want to choose the very top most one: HTML for Websites. The one that starts with:

Yeah...and you need a colon in there, too...and you typed a zero instead of an o. Dear me. Here's the proper URL:
http://i33.tinypic.com/o86wlz.jpg
We're going to get you through this, Karen. Even if it kills us.

scrapbook our recent cruise in the Mediteranean, write my memoir.

I also really like to play with my cats:

This is Misha.

And this is Emma. They're sisters and my baby girls.
And just because I think this one is really cool:

If I am able to get a job soon enough, I'm going to save for, at minimum, a Canon Rebel T2i, because all I have is the Sony point-and-shoot right now, and that's a let down after the Pentax, which I borrowed from the journalism department at school.

This one was taken on a Rebel XTi with an 18-55mm lens during my school's big holiday in 2009. If I had gotten the girl's name and her parents' permission, it would have been published in our newspaper.

And this was taken with the same lens as above, but using a Canon D40. There was a hot air balloon flying over campus one day and they landed behind our art and theatre building, so I sprinted halfway across campus barefoot to get pics.

Once you have uploaded your pic, you'll get a screen like this:

The code you want is in the box indicated by "HTML for Websites:"

Click in that box so that the entire thing is highlighted:

Then copy and paste the entire thing into a comment box on GR:

You can hit enter after the code, as I did, and write a comment beneath the picture, as well. If all is done properly, then you should have a lovely picture in your post!

Look! It's a picture! And I'm a comment! :D

This is a from my patio right before the storm hit.
