Caity (adivineeternity) | 14 comments As you have likely noticed, there are short blurbs at the beginning of each chapter. Why do you think they are there? Whose story do they tell?

Feel free to speculate and discuss them here.

message 2: by Lara Amber (new)

Lara Amber (laraamber) | 664 comments I thought they were excerpts from the book Vin finds.

message 3: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) | 14 comments Yes, but why are they there? Is there a significance?

message 4: by Lanae (new)

Lanae | 5 comments Caity, have you finished this series?

message 5: by Zen (new)

Zen (zentea) | 135 comments Very significant! Also, they kept becoming more and more interesting until the reader can finally figure out what the heck they mean!

message 6: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) | 14 comments Finished the entire trilogy? No. First time through it for me, although the second book will have to wait a few days since I've got a couple of other books to read, first.

message 7: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (fireweaver) | 344 comments Caity, I think I see what you're getting at, and I too kept waiting for them to have some deeper meaning. the blurbs, far as I could tell tho, had nothing to do with the specific chapter they were tied to.

at first, I assumed they were from a diary of kelsier's - I think this is intentional on the author's part, to try and link the motivations of the hero and the villain of the story, hinting that no one ever sets out to be crazy evil.

AJ (anersword) | 36 comments I don't think this is a spoiler but just in case:

*****SPOILER FOR SERIES*******

Did anyone else think that throughout the trilogy they were written by different people or do you think they were all written by the same person when you finished book 3?

message 9: by Random (last edited Aug 30, 2010 04:45PM) (new)

Random (rand0m1s) Its been a little while (I read all 3 books in a row last year) but I thought it was made rather clear that the blurbs (which are excerpts from the book Vin finds) were written by one very specific person.

I won't go into more (spoilers for books 2 and 3) other than they are quite significant to the overall story.

message 10: by Jv (new)

Jv | 1 comments I'm halfway through the first book and I'm starting to think it's the Lord Ruler's story. Because they talk about how Lord Ruler saved the world from the mist and the red sun, and the blurbs talk about how this one guy is suppose to be the "Hero of the Ages" and how the world rested on his shoulders.

message 11: by Phrynne (new)

Phrynne As Random says you will know who wrote them by the end.

message 12: by Charles (new)

Charles McGarry (goodreadscomcharles-mcgarry) I've noticed this mechanism in Stormlight Archives too. Sanderson intentionally keeps it ambiguous. I too thought it might have been the Lord ruler.
