read this a while ago and cannot remember much about it but i loved it and want to read it again! it was set in the US and about a group of people who survived a nuclear bomb and what happens to them afterwords, does anybody know??? thanks

There are lots more that fit what you gave. Any other tips? I'd guess about 1/4 to 1/3 of apocalypse books have a nuclear war as the cause. Anything else you can remember would help a lot.

Any idea on when you read this? Was it new or older when you read it? What about names/jobs/descriptions? Anything you can remember would be helpful to narrow this search down.

honestly, that is ALL i can remember from the book, it was about 16 years ago when i read it, i was 12, but i do think it was Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank!!! i am going to read it and see, thanks so much!

It probably wasn't this, since you said you were only 12 when you read it, but you should try On the Beach by Nevil Shute. Seriously good stuff.

Except most of On the Beach was set in Australia, although a bit took place in San Francisco, CA, USA.
