Spell September Challenge
Kate wrote: "Thanks! I'm really excited to start reading. :-)"The Steig Larsen book you might want to read until last. It is like eating a really satisfying meal and I didn't read anything else for a while afterwards. Then again - you may hate it!!
Yeah I heard they're really good books though so hopefully I will enjoy reading it. I'm having trouble locating a copy at the library but I should be able to find it for a reasonable price somewhere else.

Oh, yeah - all set for the group read; just finished Twice Tempted by a Rogue and wanted to go right into Three Nights, but I'm going to be a good girl and wait for September 1st!
Re: the Pamela Clare books - I read the first two books about the MacKinnon brothers and loved them *Surrender & Untamed*, and heard that Ride the Fire is really good, so I skipped the first two in the Kenleigh Family trilogy & jumped right to this one - you'll have to let me know if this is a mistake.
I don't know if it's a mistake or not, BJ. I had emailed the author and we had quite an exchange about those 3 books, but I can't recall if reading order was discussed, I'm sorry! I guess I didn't ask because I have all 3, heard good things about all 3, and planned to read them in order. I'll go back through my correspondence with her and see if anything was said. And regarding MacKinnon's Rangers.... LOVED them! Connor's story comes out next year :)
Have you read her I-Team series? Holy cow, are they amazing!!!
Haven't read Clare's I-Team books, Dhes, but sounds like I should give them a try - and still more books get added to the wishlist!
BJ, if you like Romantic Suspense... yes, read her I-Team Books. She moved right to the top of my favorite RS authors. The ratings for each book are all easily 4+I didn't find anywhere in PC's message that said the historicals, Carnal Gift, Sweet Release and Ride the Fire MUST be read in order, but for some reason I think I heard they are connected. I dropped her a quick note and asked. Hopefully I'll hear something soon.
Wow, Pamela Clare replied really quickly! This is what she said..."The reading order is SR, CG, RtF. CG can probably be read all by itself. It's my weakest book, I think, but largely because the publisher cut 100 pages out of the story so that it would adhere to their max. page count. Book size impacts how much paper they use, the costs of shipping, etc., because how many books they can fit in a box is determined by how big the book is. One of the reasons I left that publisher is that the maximum size kept getting smaller.
So... SR and RtF are related, but about 33 years pass in between them.
RtF is in some ways the most precious to me of the books I've written. It took everything I have as a human being. Read SR first, and read RtF last. There are little nuggets in RtF for those who've read the first two. "
So there ya have it, straight from the author's fingers!
Thanks, Dhes! Going to look for Sweet Release, but not sure about Carnal Gift - will decide after I read SR.The I-Team books are good Romantic Suspense, huh? Works for me!
They're very good, BJ. The I-Team is an investigative reporting team for a Denver newspaper. The stories are really well written and very authentic feeling because PC is a reporter/editor of... I think 2 newspapers. The novels are taken from actual stories she worked on, which is where the detail comes from. They're exciting, sexy, funny... excellent reads.

My sons can do the cooking! And the big fall cleaning spree will have to wait til Oct 1st. I'm up half the night anyway and I'll just take longer bubble baths every night lol! None of these are really looong books and I've read a good part of the authors before, so I'm hoping I'll breeze through some of them!

I average about... I don't know... 14 per month. We have a folder here that you can use to chart your own reading lists, goals, etc. It's Your Reading Logs in case you're interested, or you can take a look at what everyone else is reading... challenges, etc. This month I've only 10 so far. I might be able to get in 2 more.
Mine's quite simple, just a list of books I've reading during a given month. Others are more elaborate, tracking reading challenges, purchases, etc.
Barring any illness, accidents or other catastrophic events, I can read a book in a day or 2. Well providing I'm not bored to tears! August was not a good month to be doing challenges! Thanks for recommending Your Reading Logs. I'll check it out and see if I can learn how to navigate something else lol! I really, truly must do some organizing. If my books came to life, I'd be in some real trouble. It would be anarchy!! They are EVERYWHERE!! I do have lots of them shelved very neatly by author and genre, but my space only goes so far, and I have no idea what I even have anymore lol!

Well see, that's the nice thing about that folder. You create YOUR OWN thread within the folder and add to it in whatever way you wish :)My daughter took pictures of my bookshelves in my walk in closet, but after looking at the pictures I'm too embarrassed to post them because my closet itself is in a dismal state of disarray.
However, I know for a fact that I have OVER 200 books that I have NOT read yet sitting on my shelves - which is much of the reason my closet looks as it does.
***hangs head in shame but not really*** It comes in handy when needing to grab a book quick that will fit into a challange.

I'm anxious to heard what you think of Blue Dahlia."I picked up Blue Dahlia at the library today, its a little worse for wear though as most library paperbacks are. From what I read on the back cover, the idea of a ghost and the characters discovering the history of the house really intrigues me. I love Nora Roberts' Bride Quartet and can't wait for the last book (Happy Ever After) to come out in November. :)

There should never be any shame lol! I'm seriously considering building on a library. I would love to have the rest of my house back someday! You should post the pics anyway. I'd love to see your books!! :)

I love Nora Roberts! I have the Garden Trilogy,Key Trilogy and Irish Trilogy, but I haven't read any of them yet. I'd love to hear what you think about the ones you've read!

You should read Blue Dahlia with me so we can discuss it together. Maybe we could even get other people on here to read the whole trilogy with us. :)
Sure, Kate! That would be fun and I actually know where my Nora Roberts books are lol! I've been reading her long enough that she already has her own section set up instead of just stacks among the other stacks!
All right! I'll be here! I have 17 other books listed for challenges for Sept., so there won't be a lot of gallivanting going on lol!
Wow. Yeah I signed up for two Spell September challenges using different books for each. I'm going to be busy as well.
Thanks, Dhestiny, for your recommendation about P. Clare books. I'm reposting because I've made a couple of changes to my list. Maybe this'll be the month that my changes will all be made before the challenge actually begins!READ-THE-MONTH

You're welcome, BJ. I hope you enjoy them! I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of Sweet Release. I need to read those 3 books.
BJ, I just read The Book of Scandal a little while ago. It was pretty good. I'm curious about the rest of the series.
I have Eat, Pray, Love for the last "E" on my September list. Has anyone else read it and if so would they recommend it? I've heard mixed reviews so I'm wondering if I might switch it out for something else.
Kate wrote: "BJ, I just read The Book of Scandal a little while ago. It was pretty good. I'm curious about the rest of the series."That's encouraging, Kate. I've had it sitting on my shelf for a while. I read lots of Julia London several years ago - her Rogues of Regent Street & the Desperate Debutantes, and then stopped reading her, so this may be a return to her for me if I like this one.
If you end up liking The Book of Scandal there are two more that follow it: Highland Scandal and A Courtesan's Scandal. Both sound very interesting but I have yet to read them.

I'm not saying I hated the book as she does have an engaging writing style, but her self absorption got on my nerves.
I decided not to read Eat, Pray, Love. Thanks for the heads up Laura. It doesn't sound like a book I would enjoy much. I really thought it would be better since it's a best seller but oh well. I still have a memoir on my list though and hope it's good. I swapped out Eat, Pray, Love for the September Pick-It-For-Me book that I'm going to read, Suddenly You. Also switched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (since it's on a long waiting list at my library) for Tessa Dare's Three Nights with a Scoundrel.
