Colleges
I'd like to apply to prestigious colleges just to see if I could get in, mainly for bragging rights. But I wouldn't go if I don't like the school.

I wouldn't be willing to go just for it's prestige. I'd go cause it is a good college, and I would make good contacts. My hope is to be able to make it into Cambridge cause they have a good architecture program. Otherwise I will go to a different college, like the Boston Architectural College. I myself don't care what college I go to, as long as it has a great architecture program.

Well, I think it's because she thinks that schools these days aren't very productive (I mentioned I'm homeschooled?) She thinks it would prevent me from becoming a good person. Now, what I think is if you really are a "good person" you surroundings won't prevent you from doing good things.

My plan is to get a part-time job and then work on getting published. I might go to a community college to get my general ed. out of the way, so if I later decide I do want to go to college, I don't have to worry about that part of it.
i'm not aloud NOT to go to college, but its fine because i want to go....and i dont have a choice XD

Try going to a liberal arts college where you can major in creative writing.

Maybe
Yes
I personally want to go to MIT. because it is one of the best schools for what I want to major in (Civil Engineering).

No I don't. I already know all of this, which is why it's my #1 choice school. Stanford is my second.

I personally don't think colleges should look at race, but rather economics, I know that many minorities are at the lower end of the spectrum so everything would still be fair, but it would still include poor whites and asians

-Beloit
-Connecticut
-Drew
-Earlham
-Haverford
-Pace
-UMass Amherst
-St. Joseph's
-Trinity (San Antonio)
Not all are liberal arts schools, sadly. :P
Which are you looking at?

I'm also looking at Washington & Lee, Southwestern, Marymount, and William & Mary
again I would love to go to a small liberal arts school like Washington&Lee or Barnard but I'm keeping my options open
Speaking of Barnard, have you been looking at any good scholarships there, the tuition is extremely high and I don't think I could attend without a scholarship (my parents don't want me to get a student loan)

I'm going to have to look at scholarships for Barnard, assuming I get in. And I can also hope for some good financial aid grants. I'm hoping to go to med school eventually, which is where all of my student debt should come from. :P I can't wait to visit and interview, though!

There's three colleges I'm thinking on going to. They are all nowhere near where I live. One's in England, one's in San Francisco, and another in in Boston(that's the closest... but number 3 on my list....)

Are you more interested in small, liberal arts schools, or would you not mind larger, more research-oriented schools?

What's the Boston one?

archaeologist
Ah, of course. I use to want to be a marine biologist....thought it would be awesome....youre going there for that right?

So, do you live in NC, or do you just like the state?
I've heard wonderful things about the history department at Duke, though from what I've heard, it's difficult to get accepted there.
Davidson is smaller, and I'm not sure how research there is, but I have a cousin going there for history, and she says it's fantastic.
Do you want larger classes, like lectures, or smaller, discussion-based classes?

Let's play "Which of these is not like the other?" ;)

definatley discussion based classes

Nothing you'd be interested in. lol. BAC. Boston Architectural college.

Then I would suggest focusing more on the liberal arts colleges. They're known for having small, discussion-based classes You should be able to do research at a good liberal arts school, like Davidson, especially if it's well-funded.
Is there any particular reason you want North Carolina specifically?

It's small. I'm not surprised. It only has architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and maybe one other thing(that I can't remember)

I plan on living in NC once I'm out of college anyway and after the first year of being there college becomes much cheaper compared to where I live
-Would you be willing to go to a college just for its prestige and academic rigor? (eg. attending Harvard for the name, but not enjoying the atmosphere and social life)
-Should colleges be more willing to accept underrepresented minorities (blacks and Hispanics) with lower stats than overrepresented minorities (Asians)?
