Sashana Hey, Erin. Welcome to the group. Your job sounds really cool, have you been anywhere exotic?

message 203: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments Erin, have you read the Peaver translation of The Three Musketeers? If so, how did it compare? Was it good? (Peaver is 1/2 of the "team" that's translated a lot of the Russian classics into English. Many of them, evidently, had a lot of French.)

message 204: by Erin (new)

Erin (eecamp) Thanks Sashana! I haven't been to any really exotic places yet, just the American southwest, but I'm ready to go to a more exotic dig at the drop of a hat!

Shay--I just checked the couple Musketeer copies I have, and I don't think I've read the Peaver translation...but I'll definitely check it out for my next reading! I really wish I had any competency in french, since so many of my favorite authors wrote in that language.

Yes, I read "Before I Fall" last week. I really enjoyed it, I thought it was amazing! Definitely the best book I've read this year so far. I've done a review on it on GR.. and I would link you to it but I can't seem to figure out how!

message 208: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Amber, this is how you do it:

1)Above this comment box there is a green portion that says (some html is ok)
2) Click on it and follow the second bullet point that says Link:

Test it out and see if it works. If you still have trouble then I'll walk you through it.

Nathalie, I am from Dallas/Ft. Worth. I cannot wait to move back home. It doesn't have any particularly breathtaking scenery, mountains, or wonderful air quality, but I cannot think of any other place I want to be.

message 219: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Marianne, I LOVED The Gargoyle. For a first book, it was genious. Cannot wait to see more from him. By the way, he doesn't have anything else out yet does he? *mouse slowly glides upwards to open a new tab for Amazon* ;)

message 220: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (mdabernig) | 6 comments He doesn't have anything else due out, unfortunately. I was blown away by The Gargoyle. I love past-lives/soulmates stuff anyway but for it to be told like that was just amazing for me. I mean I'm usually a bit of a wimp when it comes to violence in any medium but somehow I still loved this despite some pretty horrific events in it. I'm actually just shocked that Hollywood hasn't decided to make a film out of it since they seem to be making a film out of any half decent (and not so decent) book just now.

I'm looking forward to his follow up but I can understand the delay - imagine having to live up to that? lol

message 221: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I was blown away too. I heard it took him a long time to write it and it definitely shows. I am not sure if I would want a movie or not. I think something like this is better left the way it is.

message 222: by Nami (new)

Nami (tenshii) | 43 comments O.O Woah. This sounds like a good book, whos the author by the way?? *in a small voice* If you dont mind me interrupting... :)

message 223: by Marianne (last edited Feb 02, 2011 01:48PM) (new)

Marianne (mdabernig) | 6 comments That's no problem, Namita and it is definitely worth a read. *nods* It's by Andrew Davidson (lets see if I can remember how to do the link thing on here ;)) The Gargoyle

And I agree, Rachel - but I'm not going to lie, I think I'd rather see something original like this adapted for the big screen than every Nicholas Sparks like book ever written though. I don't know if it would work very well as a film right enough - not very Hollywood.

message 224: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments This is true. I am just scared that will completely ruin it. Haha.

message 225: by Nami (new)

message 243: by Sans (last edited Feb 14, 2011 09:20AM) (new)

Sans Yay for Serenity and tats! I've actually got a tat that says "serenity" in kanji, but I got it before the movie or preceding TV series was out. It was during my Star Wars obsession. I want to get "passion" above "serenity", then I'll have a line of kanji down most of my spine.

I've got a triple goddess knot (Celtic triangle) with a snake weaving through over my upper back and a tramp stamp that's a Yin-yang with some tribal designs.

My mom suggested I hide a rather large scar on my calf with a crescent moon and the North Star. I'm seriously considering it.

I want to fill in my back at some point and need a way to pull everything together but I also want a phoenix in white and red ink, possibly curling over my hip and up my side or over my shoulder. Can't decide where to put what at this point. ^o^

message 244: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) | 0 comments Sans,

I thought about getting a Goddess symbol (forgot at the moment what it's called....I'm so forgetful!). I've been on an Earth-based path for many years now.

I had thought about getting a phoenix down my left side. I put that thought on hold until I get my back piece and see how much that goes around. My koi starts to come around a bit on my side so the water will definately be coming around towards the front. I am hoping in 2 weeks to add onto my back. Not as much as I hoped since I do plan on getting an ereader! =)

message 245: by Sans (last edited Feb 14, 2011 12:07PM) (new)

Sans Ah, it's so difficult deciding how to allocate the spare cash, isn't it? I love the sound of your ink! Do you have a difficult time "fitting" your pieces together or do you have a general theme (like Japanese art) going? Just saw that you answered this on another thread!

message 246: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) | 0 comments I decided a year ago to make it into a Japanese backpiece. Right now I have a mix of things on my back. Koi on lower back, butterfly/vines/flowers upper back, "Jesse Dean" in script above that, and "Jesse" in Japanese on the lower part of my neck. My grandmother is Japanese so I have some pictures from her hometown that I would like to have added into it. I may do a coverup on the butterfly/vines/flowers, but not the rest of it. At this point I have $50 saved up towards either a tat or ereader (I have a $150 budget for the ereader, but what I want is $199). I have been selling coupons for the past 1.5 months and have saved the $50 in PayPal from that.

Weird stuff I’m into: Fanfiction- seriously, it's a problem....

Why I read: I like plugging into other people's minds and worlds. I'm also a person that more enjoys observing people than being involved in whatever's going on- so reading allows me to experience and analyse at a distance.

A Leo! Wow, I'll be very nice to you, promise :-). You have a great range of favorite books and authors. You really want to visit England? I want to visit the US...Shall we swop?

message 249: by Sans (new)

Sans Chelsea, what series/type of fanfic do you read? I started with het anime fanfic (Ranma 1/2 mostly) when I was, oh, 14?, then yaoi (Gundam Wing, Weiss, then almost any series I watched or read), then slash in Star Wars, Buffy & Angel, Harry Potter. I tried some Star Trek (new film) slash and it was pretty good.

Weird stuff I’m into: This is an odd question! What's considered "weird"?!
Why I read: I love it!
