Love love | 44 comments 1.My Name is Noelle
2.I first heard of Anne Stuart a few months ago on a thread at Amazon Communities.
3.My favorite contemp. is Ice Blue,I just loved Takashi O'Brien and my favorite hist. is A Rose At Midnight.
4. I agree with Arch that her books do read like movies and I just love the way she writes her anti-heros.

Great idea Danielle!

message 4: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) | 1 comments Hello, everyone!

1. My name is Dina.

2. It was you, Danielle, who perked my interest when I was still an active member of the Amazon Romance Forum.

3. My favorite book, so far, is The Soldier And The Baby.

4. I love how her books are so different from one another - mind you, I haven't read her Ice books, which I think are somewhat similar in theme - and how unique her heroes are.

message 5: by AgentScully (new)

AgentScully | 18 comments 1. Hi, I'm Agent Scully and I'm an Anne Stuart addict.

2. I borrowed a bunch of her books from Holly and loved them all (note to self: invite Holly!)

3. Shadows at Sunset, Into the Fire, Shadow Lover

4. I love her versatility, although I prefer her contemps to her historicals. I have a weird fondness for her early category romances too, because they are so unique.

message 6: by Arch (new)

Arch | 91 comments AgentScully, are you Agent Scully from Amazon?

If so, it's nice seeing you on here. We didn't really converse on the Amazon board.

2.How did you become an fan of Anne Stuart? I read her category romances and fell in love. She writes a really great story, IMHO.
3.What are your favorite books of hers? I have a long, long list....
4.Why do you like Anne Stuart? I think she has a way of writing a story that draws me in, but she doesn't overuse words to do it. I love her dark heroes and darker romance. In her books, love can save the bad guy. That's a good lesson.

I'm really glad you all joined. I know I probably get on people's nerves talking about AS. I'm glad to see there are others who appreciate her.

2.How did you become an fan of Anne Stuart? Two words: Black & Ice :-)
3.What are your favorite books of hers? I'm early yet into her books but I'm so hooked on the Ice series it's not even funny
4.Why do you like Anne Stuart? I love the way she isn't afraid to break the conventions of the romance genre. She really goes there with her heroes and storylines that some are afraid to touch. She also has a way of writing so that you're rooting for complex characters and sucked into the story the whole way through. Such great stuff!

Carolyn, I've emailed her a few times and she writes back! She's a very nice person, from my contact with her.

Well-said, Rae.

Carolyn F. She looks like she would be Danielle - what a strange picture to put up - I love it. The way she's posing, reminds my of my mother. She never just looks at the camera and smiles.

I think she's kind of self-deprecating--maybe a little shy. That's what I get from her body language. She had a tough childhood. That's why I love how her books are so dark, but always have a HEA.

Shawna (shawnalovesromance) | 4 comments 1. My name is Shawna and I'm an avid romance reader.
2. I became a fan with the first book I read, which was Black Ice.
3. My favorite books are Ice Blue and Ice Storm (tie), although I love the entire "Ice" series.
4. I just love her gamma/anti heroes and unlike a lot of authors who soften up their cold, hard heroes, hers stay true to form.

I've only read her romantic suspense books, but I plan to check out her House of Rohan series.

Kathrynn Great idea! Howdy, I'm Kathrynn, and I've read Anne Stuart's Ice series. Enjoyed them for the most part. Some of her heros were abit hard to take, though. Have not read any of her other books. Saw that she has a new historical out. Not sure if it's something I'd want to read, yet.

Anyone read it?

I just have to say that I agree Danielle, about Anne not overusing words to get her story across.

She's a writer after my own heart.

Rae, I have to agree. Mrs. Stuarts makes you want to hate and love the hero at the same time.

Again, a writer after my own heart.

2.How did you become an fan of Anne Stuart? I remember reading some of her Harlequins back in the day.
3.What are your favorite books of hers? hmmm let me get back on this one
4.Why do you like Anne Stuart? She has a way of making that bad boy hero really shine where most authors, using that same formula, can't.

2.How did you become an fan of Anne Stuart?
A friend of mine said I should try Black Ice and I reluctantly did. After reading it I scoured the globe for her entire backlist and now have every single thing she's ever written including the impossible find Barrett's Hill that some fool actually gave away on a swap site 8-)

3.What are your favorite books of hers?
Cold As Ice and Ice Storm are the best I've read so far. The worst was a tie between Moonrise and Night Fall. To Love a Dark Lord was pretty sucky too.

4.Why do you like Anne Stuart?
No one does the dark gamma hero like Anne Stuart :D

Exactly! It's a delicate line that only AS can accomplish. :-) I agree about her writing very succinctly without overusing words, too. That's a great writing talent!

Hi Kathrynn! She does have some hardcore bad boy heroes indeed. :-)

I did read part of Ruthless from a galley but I never got to read deeply into the hero's part. The beginning was interesting though. She has a freebie download prequel short story called The Wicked House of Rohan which takes place before the series. You may want to check that out to see if you like it before grabbing Ruthless. :-)

message 25: by CaliGirlRae (new)

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) Eastofoz wrote: "The worst was a tie between Moonrise and Night Fall. To Love a Dark Lord was pretty sucky too."

I may have to move these down my list a bit. May I ask why they didn't turn out as good as the others?

Also, are they contemps or historicals? (I have yet to really dive into her historicals - Ruthless was my kinda first!) :-)

message 26: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 11 comments Rae, the heroes are assholes in the two contemporaries (Moonrise and Night Fall) and are irredeemable IMO. The heroines I think were TSTL. The steam was terribly done (especially in Night Fall--very painful!) and the stories just dragged and dragged. The other one (To Love a Dark Lord) has the worst doormat heroine I think I've ever read. The hero is a total jerk that's never normal and then suddenly everything is peachy keen in the ending that didn't match anything else.

2. I read Black Ice. After that, I had to find as many books of hers as I could.

My issue with Moonrise was the heroine had no chemistry. She was very pallid. I liked the hero. Nightfall is very chilling. I couldn't get past the fact that the hero might be a child-killer. I'd like to reread it since I've read the Ice books. I might be in more of a mood since those are so edgy. I love To Love a Dark Lord. East and Fani and I have discussed this and we disagree. I liked the Dangerous Liaisons element.

Thanks everyone for joining!

LOL! I lucked out with a lot of them on eBay from one woman who was getting rid of 3 boxes of them. Only a few did I have to pay a pretty penny for a new copy of those older ones.

4. I like her because I like her writing 'voice'. I can re-read her stuff over and over.

I'm glad to be here and thanks for starting group. I hope AS writes for many decades to come so I can read her wonderful books.
Totally agree that you always know when you're reading AS. No ghost writers for her. Her fans would rebel immediately. :)

message 41: by Nilofer (new)

Nilofer (nilofers) | 29 comments 1. Hi, my name is Nilofer, here's my info:

2.How did you become a fan of Anne Stuart? I picked up Lord of Danger in my library ten years ago, and loved it.

3.What are your favorite books of hers? Hidden Honor, Black Ice, To Love a Dark Lord, Falling Angel

4.Why do you like Anne Stuart? Its hard to find an excellent writer who can do both historicals and contemporary romance so well. Her heroes are exciting, the tension between them is so well-written, and I agree, her voice is so individual, you definitely know when you're reading an AS book!

Thanks for setting up this group :)

Welcome Nilofer. You said it very well about AS's appeal. I'm just glad to have a place for this wonderful author, and her fans to chat.

message 44: by Othena (new)

Othena Nilofer
You are so right about AS writing historicals/contemps equally well. She's the only author I read that does this. I've heard great things about Lisa Kleypas and her contemps but no one can do it as well as AS IMO.

message 45: by Crista (new)

Crista | 3 comments Thanks Danielle for setting up this group....sorry I'm a little late to the dance!

1. My name is Crista....and I am also an Anne Stuart addict. I cannot change this, I only hope to control this:)

2. I became a fan of Anne Stuart's after reading NightFall

3. To Love A Dark Lord, Nightfall, Ritual Sins, Banish Misfortune, Shadow Lover, Lord of Danger, A Rose at Midnight, and I REALLY loved her latest Ruthless. The ONLY book of hers I don't care for is Silver Falls.

4. I love Anne Stuart's ability to write dark humor combined with suspense and unique plots. Her secondary love stories that she often incorporates into her books are kind of like getting a "two for one" special and her heroes are simply unbeatable.

message 46: by Nilofer (new)

Nilofer (nilofers) | 29 comments Arch/Danielle/Othena - thanks for the warm welcome! I looked at the AS blogs on Historical Romance here at goodreads, but there wasn't much there, if I remember correctly. Its great to be able to discuss all her books, with people who love her work.

I moved abroad about five years ago and don't have access here to libraries, so the only chance I get of finding AS books is at one book chain, and in used book stores, which I love to go through. Unfortunately most stuff comes from England, not the States, so finding AS has been pretty chancy. Did manage to get my hands on some short story collections, "My Secret Admirer" being one where the AS character is a French ex-spy - that was a very good one (I think her story was called Dangerous Love)

message 47: by Ty (new)

Ty Hi there!

1.Name: Ly sometimes Eury

2.How did you become an fan of Anne Stuart? erg... prepare for nerdiness. When I was 14, I read an essay text edited by Jayne Ann Krentz. Some of you might have heard of it? Dangerous Men & Adventurous Women: Romance Writers on the Appeal of the Romance... yeah. Anyhoo, at the time, I was in luuurve with JAK and would read her grocery list if I could. One of the authors who was cited in the essays? Why, yes, the awesome Anne Stuart. And thus, an eternal love was born.

3.What are your favorite books of hers? it's a tie: Now You See Him or Wild Thing

4.Why do you like Anne Stuart? She is a goddess and I'm just a mere mortal. And she does modern gothics pretty darn well. Years after my first love, I saw her dedication to Gackt in the 2nd Ice novel (I think), which just sealed the deal for me. I LURVE GACKT.

message 50: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) Hi everyone!

1.Name: Tammy

2.How did you become an fan of Anne Stuart? I had read the second book in the Ice series and liked it, but then kept reading on GR about her books and ESPECIALLY her heroes. I picked up The Devil's Waltz and was hooked.

3. What are your favorite books of hers? Her historicals are fabulous - unlike most others I have read. I have read (and loved) The Devil's Waltz, To Love a Dark Lord and Ruthless and they just keep getting better for me!

I've only read 3 of her contemporaries - the second Ice series book, Silver Falls (UGH!) and The Widow, but enjoy her historicals much more. Her contemporary heroes are a little bit TOO bad for me.

4.Why do you like Anne Stuart? Her heroes, of course! I love them! I also like her writing style, the dark humour as someone above mentioned, and the thing I like best is the way she writes the dialogue in her historicals. It flows beautifully. Her heroes (historical, anyhow) are jaded, indolent, world-weary, cynical, funny and SO sexy - most of that comes from what they say. She does a wonderful job of it.

I've also really enjoyed the settings of her historicals -- closer to Georgian than Regency, which is a nice change.
