Larry Moniz (larrymoniz) | 181 comments Tom, I commented, but after 45 years in publishing and numerous writing awards, I see things a bit differently. Here's what I said at Huffington Post:

While I agree with the sentiment, the writer wants a U.S. review for a book published in a foreign land. While I'm unfamiliar with this book, I'm an Indie author with many years experience in the publishing field as a journalist, publicist, author and publisher. (Also a substantial number of writing awards.) From a journalistic standpoint it's far easier for newspapers to go with a known quantity in the form of a publisher with a history of quality books. As an indie I grieve at the numerous substandard books being published by unqualified writers who fancy the term "author." Unless and until the percentage of well-written books by Indie authors grows, no publication can afford to pay a reviewer to read what could turn out to be a disaster. Conversely, would the writer of an inferior book welcome a seriously bad review in a major media outlet? I think not.
