I am making this thread in honor of two books by two of my favorite authors that are being released in September and I can't wait!!!

the first is Masques by Patricia Briggs. It is a re-release of her first novel. I have searched everywhere for an original copy of this book, but most are way out of my price range. So i am overjoyed that they are releasing it again.

the second book is Blameless by Gail Carriger. This book i've been waiting for since i finished reading the second book of this series(called changeless). It ended with a huge cliffhanger of what was going to happen to the two main characters. I am literally counting the days.

Luckily I have ordered both through Amazon, so they should arrive about the same time they are released to the book stores.

So are there any books that you are waiting from your favorite authors or series?

I've been meaning to read Soulless, I have the book but just haven't gotten to it yet. Maybe I should put it off until Blameless is out now.

I'm looking forward most to The Wise Man's Fear (sequel to Name of the Wind) by Patrick Rothfuss, Ghost Story by Jim Butcher, and Blackout by Rob Thurman. Oh, also The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson.

The first three are all sequels and the last is just a new book by Sanderson. I'm most eager to read Ghost Story though because Jim Butcher finally used a cliffhanger ending and it was a major fricken' doozy. >_< Which actually reminds me that I'm waiting for Side Jobs: Stories From the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher as well since there will be a new novellete in the collection taking place about 40 minutes after the end of Changes.

Oh dont put off reading soulless, its too good to put off mister. I love her writing style and how pragmatic her heroine is, its hilarious. But I would suggest if you like soulless, to wait to read changeless the sequal till blameless comes out. I seriously wanted to scream at the end of it just cause i wanted to know what happened next. haha.

And I love Rob Thurman, I read the first two of the Nightlife series. Very good book, i was actually thinking of suggesting it for next months book. Is Blackout the most recent in the series? I haven't read the third or fourth books yet.

I'm a miss. =]

Well then, I'll have to get on that. I don't mind cliffhanger endings though, like having to wait for the next book. It adds to the anticipation. That and it kind of ruins the cliffhanger when you have the next book ready to read. I think it was the second or third Cal Leandros book that ended on a cliffhanger and it would have killlled me to have to wait for the next book, but I already had it ready. If I had not, it would have been tough waiting, but it wouldn't have been a bad wait. (i dunno if that makes sense)

Blackout comes out next year sometimes, the most recent is the fifth book, Deathwish. Which I actually haven't read yet. I was putting it off so I wouldn't have to wait such a long stretch for the next book... though I dunno if I can wait anymore, I really do love the series. It's up there with the Dresden Files in terms of my love for it. XD

I thought about suggesting the first as well, but I don't know that many people here will enjoy it. >_> It's really a hit and miss book from what I've read of reviews/discussions. Also, it's the book of the month discussion for another group I'm in... though that would have simplified things.

Habit of saying mister, missy =P

And normally I dont mind cliffhangers if i dont have to wait long for the next book. But I read Changeless right after it was released, and then realized I had 8 months of waiting for the next book. I kinda do the same thing where if i really love a series I will hold off on getting the next book till I know the book after is going to be released no more than 6 months from the time i read the last....does that make sense?

I'd rather wait to read the book so that i dont have to wait for the next one, yet i dislike reading and then waiting. Odd i know.

As for suggesting it for the book of the month, I think a lot of people will enjoy it. It might be urban fantasy, but its also very engrossing.

Right now, I'm waiting for The Wise Man's Fear, but that's it for the time being.

Well, I do want to get my hands on Unseen Academicals as soon as it goes paperback.

The reason why I wanted to start this whole thing was to get an influx of new books, and points of view, in my bookshelf. So, I don't have too much in the way of new releases I'm dying for.

Luckily, this club, and site in general, seem to be opening things up for me.

@Dian

That does make sense. Knowing you won't have to wait too incredibly long is a good thing when dealing with cliffhangers. For a while letting the emotion of the book and cliffhanger stew is good, but after too long it just becomes difficult to wait. >.<

See, that's what I think about the book, but... it seems either a love/hate thing with the book in the discussions/reviews for it. I'd be open to reading it again with the group... even if I'm gonna be discussing it in August for my other group.

@Harry

The synopsis for the book looks really interesting, it's going on my TBR list! Now hopefully it does come out at some point.

I definitely will, that sounds equally awesome. I'm surprised I haven't come across these books on the site before.

Just hope the site doesn't suck you in and never let you leave. I spend hours on here now just reading about different books. >.<

It's incredibly helpful for finding new stuff though as books aren't really advertised that much.

I know my spamming dumb messages back at [as:] has taken a hit, but it isn't just this site slowing me down.

OOOh that does look like a very interesting book. Does it have even a tentative release date? It always annoys me when they promote a book but the release date is only a vague 2010, or 2011, however at least it gives you an idea that it will come sooner or later

yeah i think I might wait to suggest that book till later just since our first book is already in the fantasy realm, I will probably wait and see what else is suggested before I rally to get people to read it for the book of the month.

I'm young at heart!

And I'm not that old, just old enough to feel sensitive.

haha, dont worry you're still younger than me, so that is something.

I actually haven't heard of him before, but the synopsis of Godspeed is very compelling, I might actually look into him.

Maybe the reason why it hasn't been released yet is if its still going through revisions, ect. There might be sticking points between him and his editors/ publishing company. I know that can hold up a book for awhile, but for over 3 years that's a bit much.

Jingai | 56 comments The only series I'm really waiting for is the
Taltos series by Steven Brust. Other than that, I
tend to just read whatever catches my fancy.

I haven't heard of that, what's it about?

Oh it looks like they finally put a release date for wise man's fear. Can't say I'm itching to read it but I probably will at one point in time.

Honestly I'm counting the hours almost till I get Blameless, I ordered it off amazon right after I finished Changeless which was a day after I got that book. So I've been waiting 6 months for its release, and it was shipped on the 29th. I'm so looking and barring my door when I get it.

Katt_goddess | 269 comments I need the next Dresden omnibus like some people need plastic surgery. :D One is definately due at this point.

And there's a book out now in hardcover that I'm really hoping either is rereleased in paperback or turns up in the discount bin at B&N. It's a psychology book called "Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding..." by Frost and Steketree but right now it's at 'textbook pricing' which means that little hardcover costs $27. :| Yeah...not going to happen at that price. When you manage to get ahold of a $200 museum quality copy of Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity for $10, you learn to bide your time. :D
