Shelly | 47 comments So I'm reading the series for a second time after just completing it through Echo earlier this year. I am on my second reading of Voyager right now, and found myself wondering...

There is a part in the first third of the book, where Claire visits Joe Abernathy for the last time, right before she goes through the stones again. They're in his office, examining a skeleton of a white woman found about 150-200 years ago, in a cave in the Caribbean. There is some talk of how she was killed, and that she was found with African artifacts.

I was wondering, is this Geillis Duncan? I couldn't remember if this is addressed later in the book and confirmed, and how exactly she ended up dying in that cave. But my goodness, what foreshadowing if that's her...

Mishelle LaBrash (mishalabrash) | 397 comments The skeleton is definitely Geillis. I don't remember if its explained later in the book, exactly. Or if it just something you realize or assume after the whole Cave scene. I loved how with Joe, they're discussing how, who ever killed her was really angry. Lol. Ya, you could say Claire was mad... Just a little.

EvaS (evikes) | 345 comments Yup, it's her and Claire definitely ties it together by mentioning it a couple of times in reference to the skeleton.

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments the whole scene with gellis dying is actually described in voyager (about 2/3's of the way through) while they are in jamaica

Yeah I remember that. I was just impatient and wanted some confirmation of my suspicion :)

Mishelle LaBrash (mishalabrash) | 397 comments Thx Eva, that's what I meant. I couldn't remember if Claire made the connection herself. I know us as readers did, but I cant remember when it dawned on Claire.

The Geeky Bibliophile (tgbreviews) I just finished Voyager a little over a week ago, and I don't recall Claire thinking about her conversation with Joe and realizing the skeleton was Geillis. Maybe it happens in DOA? (Haven't gotten very far into that one yet... I took a break to read another book first, and it's not that great. Should've stuck with DOA. LOL)

EvaS (evikes) | 345 comments I can't place it exactly, but she mentions it in a couple of situations at some point within the subsequent books, not just in Voyager. When she meets the Indian with the black face (for those who have read it, you know what I mean) she also flashes back to that moment in the cave with Geillis and makes the connection to the bones.

Carol | 193 comments I'm pretty sure that after they get out of the cave (in Voyager) and are sitting in the thunderstorm under the shelter Jamie makes for them, Claire recoils in horror, as she remembers holding the skull in her hands in Boston.

Had to search a bit to find it, but you are correct. It happens on the ship (during the hurricane). Claire does indeed make the connection between the skull and the events in the cave with Geillis. It was such a quick mention, I forgot all about it. Nice recall, Carol. :)
