Love the list but it left out "On the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe." Three city strikes in one song.

... and two more strikes for omitting ""Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" by the Four Lads.

What is good Halloween music?

My thoughts include Michael Jackson's Thriller (have to watch it); The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas and Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky both part of Disney's Fantasia.

Robert (robertgilescampbell) | 13 comments I know Halloween is over but still worth checking out in my opinion is this classical work that very much makes you feel like these songs belong in horror movies :)

A great song Phillip! Ron & I put it on and listen to it at sunrise every year on the drive to San Diego for ComicCon.

We've been re-watching Boardwalk Empire recently. I've enjoyed the music from this show, so decided to get the 3 volumes of the soundtrack on CD and put them into my "Parent's Generation" playlist. I quite enjoy these old songs from the teens and 20's last century—quite varied too.

Bob Green | 34 comments I'll listen to just about anything, really. I've gotten a kick out of Alaska Thunderf*ck's albums, lately, though.

Jeremy Mifsud | 26 comments Reviving this thread lol.

This year I have been hooked on Brazilian Music. First of all, Pabllo Vittar - a drag artist who in a year got awards & nominations for best song, best singer etc. so that's pretty cool to be that successful!

Currently, there's this song called ' Flutua' by Johnny Hooker and the music video alone is super emotional, and the music, it's divine!

Trevor Klundert | 11 comments Love this conversation about music!! As a young gay kid, I felt the music that most spoke to me came from women. It was way more relevant! Consequently, female musicians dominated my music collection. For the past 16 years, I actually have had the opportunity to host a weekly radio show called Girlie So Groovie -- a 60 minute block of music celebrating female-fronted bands and musicians. You can check out the show here: http://www.facebook.com/girliesogroovie

I also extended the radio show family by hosting Gay So Groovie for the last four years. It's the same format but a full hour celebrating LGBTQ musicians and bands. You can check it out here: http://www.facebook.com/gaysogroovie

If you do tune in, feel free to let me know what you think or offer any requests you want to hear!

Sara, I really love Sufjan Stevens!!

I've listened to his "Illinois," "Avalanche," and "Age of Adz" albums many, many times ... never get tired of them. There are some great songs on the "Seven Swans," "Michigan," and "All Delighted People" albums too. Really, other than some of the atmospheric/instrumental stuff and the weird "Enjoy Your Rabbit" album, I've greatly enjoyed and been moved by everything he's done. He's an amazing artist and lyricist!

I'd recommend listening to "Chicago" from his album Illinois! That's one of my favorites!

Greg Or if you like more folksy stuff and don't mind a sad story, this song "Romulus" from his album "Michigan" is so brilliant in the lyrics (a whole life story in a song):

Or this lovely stripped down sweet friendship/love song "Futile Devices" from "Age of Adz":

Greg Trevor wrote: "Greg, good call with Sufjan Stevens....I love him too! At what point, can we all just agree that he is gay?!? 😍"

Hahaha Trevor, actually I do believe that in some interviews he has suggested bisexual experiences at the very least. My partner told me that anyway.

And certainly some of his songs point to these sorts of experiences in his youth, especially "Predatory Wasp of the Palisades" (so lovely!) from the Illinois album and "Owl and the Tanager" from the All Delighted People album. As fantastic a storyteller as he is, it can be hard to tell which are imagined only and which are confessional. His songs are often so intimate that it's tempting to take many as confessional, but who knows? He certainly does use a ton of autobiographical material.

Well, I figure he's entitled to his privacy as he's more an artist than a celebrity hound. But it doesn't do him any harm for us to imagine, right? :) I do find him to be a very attractive man. I seem to have a thing for that type: sweet guys with a spiritual bent, very eccentric and deep thinking/feeling ... generally good-hearted but sometimes difficult due to the extreme eccentricity. My long term relationship partners including the one that stuck (20+ years and still going) were/are both a bit like that.

Christian (notuvoganitas) | 3 comments I've been listening to Vance Joy's "Dream your life away" and some compilations by Otis Redding (I'm obsessed with "my girl" :P).

Oh and I read "Call me by your name" recently, so I got Sufjan's "mystery of love" playing constantly in my mind. Anyway, it's such a beautiful song, so it's not a bad thing at all :)

Rick | 1767 comments Conan Gray is my new musical love. His new disc, Kid Krow is darkly humorous and his gorgeous voice is at times ethereal. His earlier EP, Sunset Season, is also excellent. I want to wrap him up in a big hug and never let him go.

Alex Lloyd (nonbinary_bookworm) | 2 comments I like a lot of folk and orchestral artists, like Eurielle, Blackmore's Night, Two Steps From Hell, and Audiomachine. I also like stuff in other languages, such as Indila and Globe. However, recently, I've been getting more into metal. My favorite band is Nightwish, and I also like Cain's Offering, Epica, and Rhapsody of Fire. I'm currently jamming out to Nightwish's latest album, Human :||: Nature. Anybody else a Nightwish fan?

Tito the Incognito | 15 comments Anyone else here as obsessed with mid-90s music as I am? (I was a teen in that era, so it figures that that's mainly what I listen to). For me it seems to be more about that time period than what genre. Some fav songs that come to mind: The Brand New Heavies "Dream on Dreamer", Weezer "Buddy Holly", Ace of Base "Don't Turn Around", En Vogue "My Lovin' (Never Gonna Get It)", Green Day "When I Come Around", Hootie & the Blowfish "Hold My Hand", Jamiroquai "Cosmic Girl", Big Mountain's rendition of "Baby I Love Your Way", The Cranberries "Linger", Paula Abdul "Promise of a New Day" (that one's more early 90s and yes Paula is definitely a guilty pleasure lol)
