Stephanie Tuell (booksloveme) | 112 comments Thanks!

Goodreads swap is still kinda new. Once more people know about it more books will be available.

Avigail (avigailr) | 3 comments The thing is that all the swap sites are only for the U.S citizens and there is one in the U.K. Well to tell the truth I am willing to swap I don't have problem with the cost of the post. As long as I know that the book will find a good home and people will read enjoy with it.

Ok what do i do with my old books?
Well....
Books are like my babies! i absolutley love them! I can't imagine giving away a book i've read, whenever i see them its like greeting an old friend! LOL

And the dream... The dream is to own a huge Library, and have it all to myself... Wow! I can just imagine having a huge fireplace cenerpiece, with a chair placed at just the right angle, and that vast overhanging light, that fills the room with a glow.

Excellent... So i keep old books, and will keep on collecting 'em... The more the merrier!LOL

Mara

That sounds awesome the perfect escape place I would love to have a huge library of my very own. I am working on creating a traveling digital library of my very own that way when I share my younger siblings won't damage my books. =) But it would be so nice to have that perfect reading place and to be surrounding by books.....a little piece of heaven. =)

message 58: by Carey Devine (new)

Carey Devine | 35 comments Recently I realized I had a ton of books I have read (not a re-read person Unless its just that good) However just recently I got on my Facebook and started an exchange program here locally with friend and it went off well. I started with 3 people last week and now have 20 people who have books and we all exchange and I have even asked if anyone has a certain book. I have had people drop books off at my house. Its had a great response and it even saves us money in the long run on new books that is why I started it.

message 59: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Tuell (booksloveme) | 112 comments I wish I had that in mt area. But I live in one of the poorest cities so one of the most drug infested cities so its hard to find people who read :(

message 60: by Carey Devine (new)

Carey Devine | 35 comments Well Stephanie if you want I can add you to the list and I will ship if you me to? I don't have a problem doing it. They will go book rate but still cheaper than buying them new.

message 61: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Tuell (booksloveme) | 112 comments Sure! Add me as a friend on facebook. Dastephan6@aol.com.

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) I keep all my books unless I've managed to duplicate. We (kids, husband & I) have a home library of over 10,000 books and those are just the ones I've had time to enter into a database. I have several Rubbermaid tubs of books just waiting for me to do some data entry. In fact, we're building a shed (AKA The Exterior Library) to house a good portion of our collection. I can't wait until we're done and I can shelve my books. Right now, they're in tubs and not in much of an order, so I can't find a particular book when I want to go back and reference one.

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) Finally! Someone who envies me! My friends and family (not the kids or hubby, just everyone else) think I'm certifiable. lol

I envy you too. My dream is to have a lovely 3 bedroom cottage along the coast and dedicate at least one if not two rooms to books.

Miranda (ladyminnyofraven) | 10 comments I'm not very good when it comes to getting rid of old books. I think I've become a bit of a collector as well as a reader.
I've tried to find an only book swap in Australia but I haven't found one yet so I usually take books that I don't like to the loca book exchange and exchange them.

Robin (ladybirdrobi) Carol wrote: "Finally! Someone who envies me! My friends and family (not the kids or hubby, just everyone else) think I'm certifiable. lol"

Oh Carol,
They aren't alone in their envy because you can add me to that list. Before movong to my present house that I am renting-to-own I had several boxes of my treasures most in paperback format they got ruined in the garage due to water damage I was able to save some but there were just to many too badly damaged. Now here in the present house I have discovered that my hubs male dogs annoints my bookshelves so I have had to remove the covers thankfully these were in hardbacks and the covers took the brunt of it so I just removed them and sprinkled with baking soda to remove the odor then I strted a document on my old computer of what books I owned then packed them into boxes however the only problem there is that that computer quick working and I don't know yet if my computer geek was abled to strip the hard drive of all my docs, photos and ebooks and ereaders. I will find out when I take my new one down to have the wireless network and usb adapter fixed since I couldn't get it done right. There must have been about fifty books in each box and there were about 7-8 of them that had to be tossed into trash so I lost so many treasured friends.

So no I don't get rid of too many of my books unless I duplicate and then I donate to the library. My Lora Leigh Breed series collection has come in handy as her yahoo chatters group hass started a Breed book club and we will be discussing Tempting the Beast around the 16 I think if there are any LL fans out there interested.

Robin

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) Robin, I feel your pain. We had several tubs stored under the house (crawlspace, no slab) and they started to mildew just from the moisture in the air. I rescued them with minimum damage though.

A tip for your database...whenever I add books to ours I save it then send it to myself right then in my yahoo email. That way I can always retrieve it if I forget to back up on my flash drive (which I forget to do all the time!).

Stephanie Tuell (booksloveme) | 112 comments For the longest time I used a microsoft program to save my. Book data. But I found it was easier to use google.com cuz this way I could pull uhe file anywhere I needed it.

Irene Hollimon | 52 comments My old books just stay on my computer.

message 72: by Robin (new)

Robin (ladybirdrobi) Well my computer geek said he would try and strip the hard drive of all my docs, photos and ebooks. I find out on Tuesday if he was successful in that endeavor if not then I will just slit open the packaging tape I used on the boxes and start all over again its my 1857 TBR mountain of books I want to read, thankfully I printedit out because I wanted to break it down to series, stand alones, anthologies and collaborations.

Robin

Lauren | 931 comments ^^ Wow

message 74: by Robin (new)

Robin (ladybirdrobi) Yeah my TBR mountain is pretty big however I belong to several yahoo groups where we talk about books, who is reading what and would they reccomend it as well as newsletters from authors and publishers and also review sites that I follow so I have several hand written pages that have not been added yet because of my old computer's meltdown.

The reason I wanted to break it down into different types is because with a list that large and sveral titles that are the same it is possible that I have entered the same book more than once because of my crappy memory and breaking it down will help prevent repeats on my list.

Have a great weekend.
Robin

Lauren | 931 comments I wish I had a large library in my home. Hopefully when we move we'll have an office/library.

Robin (ladybirdrobi) stephanie wrote: "For the longest time I used a microsoft program to save my. Book data. But I found it was easier to use google.com cuz this way I could pull uhe file anywhere I needed it."

Stephanie,
How does that work with google.com. I have a membership with google because I use the reader program to watch over all the blogs I am interested in. My new computer has Windows 7 which I need to learn how to use and my Microsoft Works 8 is not compatible so I can't use the spreadsheet program. So I would appreciate it if you can give me more info about using google for a database of books owned and even my giant TBR mountain which I printed out because I wanted to break it down into series books, stand alones, anthologies and collaborations. You may use my private email which I will include under my signature. I already have 1857 on the TBR and several handwritten pages here beside me to add after I get it broken down into the sections that I want. When you send me the info I asked for please put google and goodreads in the title so I will know it isn't spam which I have been getting alot of because every contest I enter I have to leave my email addy so anyone reading over the entries has access to my email. It's just the price I pay I guess for entering any and all book related contests that excite me enough to want to enter. Thank you I really appreciate any help you can give about this subject.

Have a great week.
Robin

Shay | 923 comments Robin, (or anyone else) here's the link for Google Docs: https://www.google.com/accounts/Servi...

I don't know if they fixed it, but certain things relating to customizing the formatting of documents don't "transfer" when you actually open it in Word, Excel, etc.

Pamela Gamemore | 5 comments BookCrossing.Com is my favorite way to pass on my books. Here's some info on what they do and how they do it:

What is BookCrossing?
It's the World's Library. It's a smart social networking site. It's a celebration of literature and a place where books get new life. BookCrossing is the act of giving a book a unique identity so, as the book is passed from reader to reader, it can be tracked and thus connecting its readers. There are currently 894,869 BookCrossers and 6,669,583 books travelling throughout 132 countries. Our community is changing the world and touching lives one book at a time.

What's our mission?
Very simply, we aim to connect people through books.

How do we do it?
Label. Share. Follow. Breath new life into books instead of letting your old favorites collect dust - pass them along to another reader. Our online archival and tracking system allows members to connect with other readers, journal and review literature and trade and follow their books as lives are changed through “reading and releasing”. Users are able to tag and track their individual books by marking them with BCIDs (BookCrossing Identity Numbers). Each BCID is unique to each book – once it’s registered on our site, the book can then be followed and journaled forever. BookCrossing is free to join and free to play. So don't be 'shelf'ish with your books - read and release!

I also keep the books I've bought. There is no bookswap that I know of in the country where I live (I think it's mostly in the USA) and I always feel bad about throwing my books away. I did do a big clean-up about a year ago, and threw away some older books that I inherited from my grandparents and of which I knew I would never read them.
I always read books in English (which is not my native language) so I can't even donate them to the local library as they don't want English books, only Dutch ones. But I have a large bookcase downstairs and there is still lots of room inside, so no worries there! :-)

message 84: by Amber (new)

Amber (Books of Amber) (booksofamber) I keep all of my books. I can't bear to part with them! If I don't like them, then I still keep them. Someone I know may want to read them in the future.
