SOLVED Future- World ends, does this couple look for missing people or just stay together?

This may not even be a real book, but I was reading Maggie Steifvater book Shiver. It's about a girl who has a romance with a werewolf. I didn't really like the book, but the girl, Grace, talked about a book they were reading that sounded good to me. I hope you can help.

Something happens and the world ends. They have to decide if they will attempt to look for their missing friends, or stay here and repopulate the Earth at their leisure. They go to search for people, get lost from each other, and are separated forever. Is this a real book? Ifs so, tell me what it is!

Clair I haven't read Shiver yet. Is anything else about the book mentioned? Parts of what you wrote could fit a lot of books. Did you check the back of Shiver and see if there was a bibliography that might have mentioned the book in question? Many times, if an author mentions a previously published book by someone they will list the title somewhere--either directly in the body of the book or at the end (or beginning) in a bibliography.

The author of Shiver, Maggie Stiefvater, was featured in July's newsletter, and replied to posts about her featured article. Since she is an active Goodreads author, you could just send her a message through Goodreads asking her your question and see if she responds. I hope this helps!

Personally, I'd still ask, even if I didn't like the book (not mentioning my dislike in my inquery, of course). Dislike of the book doesn't make your question less valid. If you do end up asking, will you please let us know what you find out? If the book turns out to be real, it could be an interesting read!

I tried e-mailing the author, but she's not accepting e-mails.

But I did scroll thru and find some interesting apocalyptic reads.

I am just curious about this one. I'm quoting from Shiver here (page 211):

"It was a strange book where everyone had been taken from Earth except the main character and his lover, and they had to choose whether to make their ultimate mission finding the ones who had been taken or having Earth all to themselves and repopulating at their leisure. ...

In the book, the characters had searched for the others, only to get separated and end up alone."

Just sounds interesting to me.

On a whim I checked out Maggie Stiefvater's read shelves. How I Live Now might fit the bill, although this is more of a dystopia than only 2 people left on Earth. In the book a girl is visiting some cousins in England when a war happens and her aunt and uncle disappear (or go off to do something and don't come back for an extended period of time). the girl ends up falling in love with her cousin and they spend most of their time together caring for the other cousins like a family out in the English countryside, but then they are separated and I don't think they get back together.

It's possible that the book mentioned in Shiver doesn't exist. If it doesn't, How I Live Now was a really interesting book, the style is quite similar to Stiefvater's in my opinion.

It occured to me that maybe this book doesn't exist, but that maybe the author plans to write it at some point....just a thought!

Oh, I wasn't thinking that. I just assumed it was a real book since Sam works in a bookstore.

But good point.

I did go to her blog and added a few authors she recommended. I never thought to check her Book shelves.

It was bothering me that I couldn't get an answer to your question, so I posted the book's description on the discussion page of "In Bed" with Maggie Stiefvater from the July Goodreads newsletter, and asked if anyone knew if it was a real book. The author herself responded and said:

"Haha, Sarah -- that is not a real book. :) "

So, mystery solved! Sorry it isn't a real book, but we can hold out that maybe she really does intend to write it sometime in the future!

I did read a bunch of dystopian fiction and just finished "Exodus" which was pretty good.

This reminds me of when I read The Magicians and then got really annoyed that a series he talks about there was something he made up for the story. (It sounded like an interesting read, and I was surprised I hadn't heard of it, and then ... yeah.)

Same with "Jane Bites Back." She runs a bookstore and talks about the Posey Frost series. I want to read it! but it's totally fictional.
