I too loved Eon and Rendezvous with Rama.
One that resonates with both those is the absolute classic Gateway by Frederik Pohl. IMHO even better than both the other two.

You must try Mc Devitt The Engines of God is a god example and in the same line of Rama

Not a book that many people have encountered, but you would certainly like Manhattan Transfer. It was a nominee for an award (Hugo or Nebula, can't remember), but didn't make it past the early stages, and has since disappeared.

But it's a great book, and deserves to be read. Find a used copy or buy the ebook at fictionwise.com with the link below.
