What percentage of the books that you read in a year are sf or fantasy

I bounce around a bit, taking a look at whatever happens to catch my eye or is recommended to me by a friend. But what I gravitate towards most often happens to fall in the category of fantasy.

I think there are people in this group, Beyond Realty and sf/fan that are different so I posted in all three.
So far this year about 1/3 of what I've read has been fantasy/scifi. I think that is probably somewhere close to a long term average as well.

LOL Mike! For me I need it or I get burnt out. I didn't read any fantasy at all from ~2000 until 2009 because I'd gorged on it for years before that and it had all blurred together into this big "sameness". Just starting to get my feet wet again.

Seek balance in life, if that entails reading a "mix" of things go with your taste... Just don't lose the ability to laugh, especially at yourself (and of course, me) :).
I rotation read mostly fantasy and scifi, but I also like romance, especially historical. The genre that I would like to read more of international intrigue.

Sooo.. 95% at least!

+1 to Sarah's recommendation on Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series, if you like erotic fantasy.

On 2011 [months january- August 8th], including my current reading - A GAME OF THRONES - which is a fantasy - I have read.
so, out of 76 books I have read this year, 30 (+1) of them are fantasy.
That makes 41%. Not the biggest fan of fantasy, but definately a fan :)
Ive read 3 books so far this year thats under the category of fantasy/ sci fi. some are adult and some are also YA. so id say its around 99% thats fantasy / sci fi

No SF for me. I'm one of those strictly fantasy types. And I'm picky about my fantasy as well. I usually don't like urban, steampunk, alternate history etc.

I'm like Mike tho. In the past when I was in high school or post high school, there wasn't that much fantasy. There was a lot more scifi, and I read that whenever. But I also read mystery, historical, literary, and everything else.
However, I've found that just because a book is a genre I like doesn't mean I will enjoy it. I just listened to a mystery that was more like a Lifetime movie than a mystery. And like a Lifetime movie, once begun it had to be finished, lol. But I was rolling my eyes through most of it. There's a lot of fantasy crap and historical crap and even literary crap out there. So I mostly stick to authors I've enjoyed in the past, rather than genres.

;-)

I have to take a break from fantasy to be honest or I'd go mad. It can be daunting to pick up another 600 page book and delve into a new world complete with a new magic system.

Do you find that almost all of the books that you read presently are sf or fantasy?
Has the rise of subgenres like urban fantasy, steampunk, sf mysteries or cyberpunk made it easier to just read in this genre or do you bounce around and just read whatever you see that is good but firstly check out the books in sf and fantasy.
