I am new to this group but wanted to post that I am reading the new Bentley Little book "The Disappearance". Just got it yesterday. It's starting out pretty good. Do any of you like Bentley Little?? He is one of my favorites besides Stephen King.

I read a couple months ago and I have and another one, can't remember what it's called, on my to-read shelf, I liked The Revelation, it was a quick paced story, and not too bad, though a little gross at times...

I finished The Drawing of the Three last night. This was much better than the first book so I will continue to read the series.

Now I have to finish 20th Century Ghost before the library takes takes it from my Nook.

Just finished Penny Dreadful. It was incredible, one of the best books I've read so far this year. Starting Hell's Half Acre tonight.

I have nothing really lined up after that, most of the books on my "to-read" list are not in my possession at the moment. Gotta pick some stuff up.

I got burned out on the books I was reading and took some time off, but just picked Under the Dome back up. I'm having a love/hate relationship with it, at times I can't put it down and other times I'm bored/disgusted with the story and I don't feel like reading it anymore. I hope the book ends well, I'd hate to have read a book this long just to be disappointed in the ending.

I'm reading a book called Summer of secrets by Richie Tankersley Cusick.
It's from a collection called Point Horror, you've probably heard of them. Cool little books by loads of different authors.
I've almost finished it, they're like 150-250 pages long in each book and you normally read them in a day to 2. They're great books if you just want a quick burst of horror, that's kinda teenager-ish and fun to read.
I enjoy them.

I didn't dislike it, Dustin - it was a readable book - I simply have read so many apocalyptic novels that were really, really good - "The Stand", "Canticle for Liebowitz," - "The Swan," "A Boy and His Dog," - and several others, that I felt that "The Passage" was a lesser book, one that couldn't compare to these others in terms of quality and imagination.

I am really looking forward to getting into book two of the Dark Tower Series since this is my first time reading it. I also hope to finish this and start book three before the monthly discussion group is over. Happy reading every one.

I knew you loved "The Stand" - but you really should try some of the other books I mentioned. Each, in their own way, is every bit as memorable as "The Stand" (well....mostly so!)

Me too! It's pretty good right now, but if I know King he'll take a turn in a direction I'm not expecting and I'll probably be upset about it. :)

Anyway -- "A Canticle for Liebowitz" is a post-apocalyptic book, after the Big Bomb (or whatever has wiped out most of civilization. While on a fast in the (I think Utah) desert, a priest comes across some of the Old Knowledge (from before -) He agonizes over whether or not to spread this knowledge will simply start the same cycle over again -- I know I'm making it sound boring, and I don't mean to, because it's a book that meant a tremendous amount to me (and to others -- This book won the Hugo Award the year it was published. But you really owe it to yourself to read this one, and "A Boy and His Dog" -another Hugo winner - it's actually a novella, and it's by one of my BIG time (and SK's BIG time favorite writers) - Harlan Ellison. If you don't know him, he wrote the one and only original "Star Trek" episode to win an Emmy. He's absolutely brilliant.

I know, my computer isn't the best, but I am grateful for what I have...

Anyway, I will definitely look into A Canticle For Liebowitz. I appreciate your input. Speaking of Sai King, didn't he recommend "A Canticle" in On Writing? I think it's in there. Btw, I have heard of Harlan Ellison, and knew that I wrote an episode for the original Star Trek. I did not realize that he wrote a novella, though.
