It can be very scary in some parts. The scene that stands out the most in my mind is the window scene. You will know it when you get to it. : )

Marc-Antoine | 312 comments Just starting All The Pretty Horses: Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy, I have previously read The Road by the same author and had thoroughly enjoyed, hope I like this one as much.

Same here.

message 1967: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 747 comments I was given The Passage last year for my birthday, and I was really eager to read it. I read about 100 pages or so, and I just couldn't get into it. I believe I even tried to listen to it on audiobook to see if that helped. Did I just need to keep reading? It just didn't grip me like I like books to do.

And here

message 1969: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments The Passage didn't grip me either. It was the first book I read in 2011 and I felt like it dragged. I really wanted to like it, too.

Hi, Kathryn!

Yes, definitely keep reading. It does get better, IMO.
But personally, I didn't have any problems getting into it. Cronin's well-written prose sucked me in immediately..

I stopped when the nun goes to the zoo with the girl. For some reason I just couldn't get past that bit and dropped the book.

I'm actually not sure it struck me funny for some reason (deleted my original response to your question as it referred to a different thread in HA, Lol been to posts in both a lot today.) I keep meaning to get again and see if i think different on a 2nd try.

Probably a stupid question, but is "The Twelve" the second book in the trilogy by Cronin? And, if so, when is it due to be out?

message 1994: by Genesis (new)

Genesis Rogers-Lewis (zombiegigi) Horns by Joe Hill this is Stephen kings son

message 1995: by Mary (new)

Mary (mary_kontrary) Currently reading three: Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, 11/22/63 and The Last Werewolf. A perfect trifecta! The Last Werewolf is an audiobook, and the reader is brilliant!

BTW, I did not enjoy The Passage at all, though I finished it. It was my worst read of 2011 (keeping in mind I usually do not finish books I don't like). Glad others enjoyed it, but it was just not for me.
