I promise you will not be disappointed.
Hi, Staci-
Thank you, I appreciate your input!
I've also read the first book in the Enders series, which I found "pretty good," but not great. It didn't feel very real to me. Perhaps a re-read would do me some good? What are your thoughts?

I am re-reading Needful Things by Stephen King.
Hi, Chelsey!
Needful Things is a favorite of mine.:) How's it coming along, so far?

Maybe it would help to start the 'Bean' series instead of Enders. This series starts right where Ender's Game left off. Then move on with the other series. They all tie in together; Enders series begins in the future long after the Bugger war so for some it does not feel real like you said. The Bean series will put it into perspective. Hope that helps.

Anne Rice's witch books were by far better than the vampire chronicles - although i loved those too.

And this time, I mean it. Nothing's going to divert my....OOOOOOO, look! A butterfly!

I had the same problem. I read The Gunslinger back in the late 80's and did not continue the series. Last year, after much persuasion from people here on GR, I picked it back up. Once I got into Drawing of the Three the story sucked me in and I read the whole series. You're through the worst one IMO. Now enjoy the rest of them.

Back to Uncle Stephen, then. I'm picking up Carrie . My first King, it's been 14 years.

Hi, Dani!
Are you referring to The Road, by Cormack Macarthy?
Just finished The Running Man by Stephen King and I loved it!
Tracy- I'm very happy for you.:) I know you've been really wanting to read The Running Man for quite some time. It's truly awesome, isn't it?
You should DEFINITELY try the other Bachman books now!
Just to add my two cent into the Bean books, the series to me is more political than anything else, while the Ender books are questing one's morals.
Thank you for your input, Kevin, it's much appreciated.
All right, I've taken the plunge. I finished the revised "Gunslinger," and started on "Drawing of the Three." This time, I'm not going to wimp out. I'm going to finish all the Dark Tower books.
And this time, I mean it. Nothing's going to divert my....OOOOOOO, look! A butterfly!
Way to go, Grant! That's a great attitude.
After you're done with DT, I think you'll find that it's very, very worth the time and effort.
Happy reading, everyone!!

Funny thing about The Running Man....it gets better every time I read it. I see more in that story. I can just about smell the desperation of Harding and New York. I'm inside that pipe and that trunk with Richards. I feel his outrage at the doctoring of his wife's picture and at the Government's Games distraction.

Yep, I was referring to McCarthy. It was brilliant!

Have you read any of his other stuff?

No Country for Old Men
Blood Meridian
The Boder Trilogy (All The Pretty Horses, Cities Of The Plain, and The Crossing.)

No Country for Old Men
Blood Meridian
The Trilogy"
Thanks a bunch . . . thank goodness I haven't seen 'No Country for Old Men' so that won't ruin the book for me!

And I'm glad you haven't seen No Country yet, either. The film follows the book quite closely.

What did you think of Robopocalypse? I pondering it as a 'to-read'

Have you read any of his other stuff?"
I noticed in another member's reply that you read Robopocalypse. It's on my to read list - what are your thoughts? Is it worth the purchase?

I enjoyed both series equally. I'm finishing the Bean series and I've found myself looking up the boundaries of the countries mentioned in the book. I've never strayed too much from my love of sci-fi and the horror genre but since this political story line ties into the sci-fi, I love it. I still feel it's better to read the Enders' series first then Bean. He has another Enders novel that is supposed to be released late this year.

I hope no one minds my input on OSC or other authors. I just love to talk about books with others. Thanks

Let me know what you think of that one! I have it on my wishlist, possibly to read in another group if it wins the poll, but I still want it even if it doesn't. I watched the book trailer for it on youtube, as well as the little "making of the trailer" documentary, and it looked super interesting. I sort of can't wait until I can get it.
Bondama wrote: "That's funny, Kit*, I just picked up The Lost Gate by Scott Card - I've always enjoyed his books, and this one is pure pleasure."
I've got that one on my wishlist too! Lol, funny OSC's sort of all over this thread at the moment. He's one of my favorite authors after SK. :)

but I can already tell you, it's just flat out amazing - an entirely new theory about gods and goddesses and their relation to humanity. I love OSC because his writing is so immediately accessible.

Hi, Staci!
I don't know about anyone else, but I have absolutely no problem with discussing work other than SK.
I don't think it should be limited to that.:)

Yes, way Dustin, and it lives up to its title."
Oh, WOW, Kevin! How in the world did you devour ADWD so very quickly!?!
Needless to say, I am amazed!

I was sort of putting off reading
Pathfinder, don't know why, but once I started reading the first page, I was into it. I'm happy I got it. Really glad to hear The Lost Gate is good too, I'll have to move it ahead a few spots on the ol' wishlist. :)

Have you read any of his other stuff?"
I noticed in another member'..."
I really liked Robopocalypse, actually. Devoured it in just a few days. Def worth the purchase, but I have an e-reader, thank God! ;)
The author was a robotics prof at carnegie mellon so he knows his stuff.

ICK. Definitely not worth it. I think I reviewed it with two stars. I was very disappointed.

Now, for something completely different: Graham Greene's The Quiet American .

I coach a HS robotics team and they compete in FIRST competitions. They teach me more than I teach them. I put a sample of the book on my kindle - it's now on my to-read list. Thnks for the reply.

No problem. Let me know how you like it!

OMW! I absolutely loved this book.
