Scott | 401 comments It was excellent. I'm going to take a little time before I read the next one though.

message 1052: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I'm planning on reading the next one in May, I think. If I can wait. I'm already anticipating where the story is going...

I'm glad that I only have to wait a few months for #5. Only halfway through #1 and I'm already impatient! LOL

message 1053: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hi, Becky!

It's great to hear that you're reading A Game of Thrones. I LOVE the series! Anyway, I don't mean to sound harsh or anything, but consider yourself lucky...a lot of us have been waiting for Book V since 2005!

message 1054: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I know Dustin, that's what I mean. It was the same with Dark Tower - I read them all back to back after they were all released. So far I've had pretty good luck that way.

I guess except for the Kingkiller Chronicles, I've been following that one since the first book.

message 1055: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I just finished Death Mask. I thought the ending was a little drawn out but I really enjoyed Masterton's writing. I'm definitely going to read more from him in the future.

I was at B&N last week and they did not have a single book from Masterton. What is even funnier is that they had a whole shelf of James Patterson's books.

I think I'm going to read Mockingjay and finish up that series.

I think everyone is wating for A Dances with Dragon. If hee does not get this out on July 12, 2011, there will be pitchforks and torches lined up outside his house in New Mexico.

message 1057: by Michael (new)

Michael (fisher_of_men) I'm reading "The Tommyknockers." Just started chapter 8 at lunch which means that I'm almost through with Part 1. As with King's other books, I am enjoying it immensely.

message 1058: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 293 comments Just finished Small World by Tabitha King last night. It was the first novel of hers I've ever read. I enjoyed it ok, but I don't know that I'll read anything else by her. It dragged in spots and the ending felt rushed. I know it was her first novel, but I just wasn't feeling her writing style.

I'm starting Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House.

message 1059: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Finished Lisey's Story and it was great, awesome, left me feeling good, though it was an emotional journey to the end.
Now I just started The Walking by Bentley Little , not sure what to think yet.

message 1060: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments There is an incredible new Stephen King story in this month's "Atlantic" - I'm a true Luddite, so I have no idea whether of not I've done this correctly, but the website is:
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/a...

message 1061: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Oh, Bondama, you're referring to "Herman Waulk Is Still Alive," right!?!

Excellent story, thanks for the link. :) I just read it, and yea, even though it wasn't a happy story, I had a smile when I finished, just because I love SKs short-stories sooo much. Then I read the interview he gave to go with it, and that was sort of enlightening.

message 1063: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I just read Blockade Billy... Meh. Not my favorite story of his. I only gave it two stars.

But I'm also listening to the audio of The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters, and I'm really enjoying that one.

message 1064: by Dave (new)

Dave | 3 comments Im reading Locked Doors by Blake Crouch

message 1065: by Dave (new)

Dave | 3 comments Has anyone read The Stand uncut?

message 1066: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments Dave wrote: "Has anyone read The Stand uncut?"

This is the first book I read on my Nook last year. It is a fantastic book. It is definitely one of my favorites from King.

message 1067: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (veraj121) | 300 comments I have The Stand uncut. I may revisit the book this summer.

message 1068: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Of course - The uncut version of The Stand takes what the "editors" made King take out (because it was toooo loooong)and put it back in. It's a much more cohesive novel this way, and it returns the "greatness" of this wonderful book.

message 1069: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I just finished Mockingjay. I thought this was a good series especially for younger readers. I'm sure I'll have my kids read it when they get a little older.

Now I'm going to start American Gods.

message 1070: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments I guarantee, Scott --- that's a book you'll never forget.

message 1071: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I didn't care for Mockingjay at all. I thought it was incredibly disappointing and out of character -- for just about ALL of the characters. Buttercup was the only character I felt anything at all for. And he's a cat.

American Gods on the other hand, is amazing. I recently read Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman, which contains a novella related to American Gods (Monarch of the Glen - read it after the book though!) and it made me want to read the book again.

AG is definitely a book that benefits from multiple readings. Even just after reading it once, I wanted to flip back to the beginning and go again to catch all the little things I might see this time around. It's brilliant. I hope you love it Scott!

Regarding The Stand - Yup! I've read it... Idunnohowmany times, and I'm rereading again this June. I can't wait. ♥

message 1072: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 561 comments You haven't read The Stand until you read the uncut Stand.

message 1073: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Gatorman wrote: "You haven't read The Stand until you read the uncut Stand."

I agree.

message 1074: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Not only does The Stand (Unabridged) give the reader everything that King was forced to omit, but there's a complete richness about it that's brilliant. Mind boggling, even.

message 1075: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments I fully plan on re-reading it again myself. Is that going to be the June group-read?
Right now though, I'm still slogging through The Walking by Bentley Little . It seems like it's just taking forever, I just want to be done with it so I can read something else. It's not terrible, it's just not that good either...

message 1076: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) If it's nominated and wins... sure. I'm reading it in June anyway, so that would be perfect. :)

That's exactly how I felt about that book and why I have yet to read another one by Little.

message 1078: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments I totally agree with you on Little, Gatorman - For some unknown reason, I tried twice, but.. not again, not again!

message 1079: by Kit★ (last edited Apr 27, 2011 05:37PM) (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Woo! Finished it finally! Had to force myself to do it. I'd read The Revelation Revelation by Bentley Little a while back, and enjoyed it for it's pure schlocky-ness, reminded me of all the scary stories I used to read as a kid, so I picked up The Walking and another one, The Return The Return by Bentley Little to try. On The Walking, I give it a big fat "Meh..." and it'll probably be a good while before I go ahead and read The Return. I probably would've liked Little's style better when I was younger and easier to please.
Next, I'm going to read The Bachman Books The Bachman Books Four Early Novels by Stephen King by Stephen King , very excited! Definitely no "meh..." there. :)

message 1080: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) LOL I don't know how you guys can have conversations in bookcovers like that. I'm like 'read read read blank *squint at cover then hover the mouse over for the title* read read read blank*squint at cover then hover the mouse over for the title* read...' And that's on my big 22 inch monitor!

You guys must have eyes like hawks! LOL

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments LOL I just like seeing the pretty covers :) It's always the covers that grab my attention at the store.

message 1082: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Mine too... but those are life-size! :D

message 1083: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Kit, you might enjoy The Store, by Bentley Little. I read it about five years ago, and enjoyed it very much.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Dustin wrote: "Kit, you might enjoy The Store, by Bentley Little. I read it about five years ago, and enjoyed it very much."

I've read good reviews of that one and The House also, so I'll probably try them if I find 'em cheap. :)

message 1085: by Dustin (new)

Dustin I hope you can find a copy, Kit, and enjoy it!

Happy reading, everyone!

message 1086: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 219 comments I'm finishing out the month of April with World War Z.

message 1087: by Todd (new)

Todd Russell (toddrussell) | 34 comments I'm reading Water for Elephants (it's for a local book club I'm in) and won a LT Giveaway of an indie fantasy/steampunk book: The Converted

As far as Stephen King goes, I have UR on my Kindle radar this month as well as I checked out the sample of Blockade Billy

message 1088: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 561 comments I just started The Summer I Died.

message 1089: by Michael (new)

Michael (fisher_of_men) I finished The Tommyknockers earlier this week. I found it to be as good a read as The Shining. I could hardly put it down at times.

I'm currently reading Bossypants (Tina Fey) and Casino Royale (Ian Fleming). Both are short, so I should be finished in a day or two.

message 1090: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Yeah! Another person who loved The Tommy-knockers!

message 1091: by Checkman (new)

Checkman The Sand Pebbles by Richard McKenna

message 1092: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 293 comments Finished Wizard and Glass (awesome) last night and just started Wolves of the Calla.

message 1093: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments Courtney wrote: "Finished Wizard and Glass (awesome) last night and just started Wolves of the Calla."

I think Wolves was my favorite from the series.

message 1094: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 293 comments After reading the prologue, I've decided to put Wolves down and read Salem's Lot first - it's one of the few King novels I've never read (other than the DT series), and I'd like to read about Father Callahan in the story from whence he first appeared.

message 1095: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Oh, WOW Courtney, I wouldnn't have been able to put Wolves aside like that!

message 1096: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 293 comments LOL I'm very particular when it comes to things being in chronological order :)

message 1097: by Lanie (new)

Lanie (icevamp) | 145 comments Hi Everyone,
Just finished UR (ebook only) and I really enjoyed it. Finished it in two days! I'm re-reading BLACK HOUSE. It's one of my favorite recent King stories. I probably have said this before, but I just love Henry Leyden!

message 1098: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Leighanne (sleighanne) | 16 comments I just finished Desperation about an hour ago, and I'm going to be starting The Regulators as soon as I finish writing my review!

And Lanie, I LOVED Black House. That was one of my favorites of King's so far :]

message 1099: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) So, I finished The Shining . Kubrick's movie version kind of bogged me down in the beginning but eventually I stopped comparing book and movie and off I went into Uncle Stephen's Overlook. And, oh wow, was it creepy. I haven't been that scared to close my eyes at night in a long while!

message 1100: by Jaime (new)

Jaime (jaimehobbes) | 104 comments Started City of Bones last night. So far so good. Am anxiously awaiting the release of Full Dark No Stars in paperback. My local B&N isn't stocking the hardback anymore.
