Bondama, no I have not seen any episodes of the wire that they wrote together. To be honest I have only seen the Wire once or twice and im from Baltimore!! However I dont have any cable or anything because Id waste to much time watching tv. However, I am a HUGE Lehane fan, just ordered Coronado and am picking up Any Given Day, and The Night Gardener by Pellecanos was a great read.

Just finished It and starting The Stand. I read The Stand a long time ago when it first came out and now I have the version where SK expanded the book to I guess what he originally wrote. I do not remember much from my first reading so this should be fun!
I started reading The Running Man yesterday. I was reading the introduction and I believe SK gave away the ending to the book. I can't believe it. I'm still going to read it but I can't figure out why he did it. It appears that it was an introduction for the new version of the book because he talks about all of the Richard Bachman books but I just couldn't believe it when I read it.
No SK at moment, sadly.I am reading
as well as
, and filling in the gaps with
and Eaters: The Beginning

I started reading The Magicians this morning.
I really liked it. I have seen the movie a ton because my kids love it. The book is very similar but there are differences. He is really great at writing fantasy.I really like Gaiman's writing style. My next book from him is going to be American Gods.

I hope you like it, its one of my favs :)

One of the best shows ever, even though I haven't seen the last season, LOL. I own all of the seasons on DVD, but I don't really watch TV anymore, and truth be told, I'm kind of nervous about the end - so I put off watching it.
I didn't know that Lehane wrote for them though. That's awesome. :)
Just had The Strain, Cathching Fire, MockingJay, Love Sick, and 3 graphic novels. The Killing Joke, Joker and the new Gunslinger.

Loved American Gods. Was the first Gaiman book I read.
I am reading
.
"American Gods" is one of my top five or six books I've read in my entire life - I'm going on for three re-reads now, and I find something different every time. Apparently, Gaiman is an something of a legend in his amount of knowledge of folklore and magick.Gatorman, "Black Hills" is excellent, but "The Terror" is MUCH better!
I'm reading Swan Song. It's a reread technically since I gave up the first time I read it. I think I'm past where I gave up now.
I'm re-reading
Just After Sunset: Stories
and I'm actually surprised by how many of these stories I actually like. JAS was tough for me the first time around. Probably because short stories are generally hard for me to read but nowadays I've managed to get into King's stories quite easily.
Rachel- Swan Song is AWESOME!Susanna- I'm glad you're really enjoying JAS (great collection, isn't it?)
Dustin --For a long time, my answer would have been an unhesitating "yes." - But - Simmons is SO incredibly talented in both science fiction and horror - PLUS other genres that I guess, at this point, my two top favorites of Simmons' would be "Carrion Comfort" and "The Terror" -
See, Dustin, there is an old Irish/English song about Lord Franklin's attempt to find a passage through the Arctic. "The Terror" tells that story, but with a very, very frightening supernatural edge. I do think that technically, "The Terror" is a better written book - but "Carrion Comfort" is still closest to my heart because dang, that's an incredibly good, good book!!
I have Hyperion sitting close by and I've been meaning to read it for ages. I guess I hesitated because I don't have the sequel, and I've heard that it doesn't stand without the sequel very well.
Chris, the sequel is important, very important, but "Hyperion" stand excellently on its own -- the thing is, once you read it, you'll not only want to go to the sequel, but on to the Endymion books....Well, well worth the read -- I find more and more junk churned out by mediocre authors these days, so that when I look back at some of Simmons' early work, I am astonished at just HOW good they are. I hope you do get around to read them at some time. They are timelessly good, Chris, and there's just not enough good books around that these, by King and by Simmons, shine like jewels.

I second that, Bondama. Thank you!
That's what I'm afraid of, Bondama. Being hooked and wanting to read them without owning them. So yes, I'll get to it for sure. I just need to get the sequels before I start.
Chris, "Hyperion" was originally meant to be published as one novel, but the publisher claimed that it was too long and split it into two volumes. A similar situation occured when "The Stand" was first released in 1978, though it was much more hurtful - the text was shortened by 40.000 words that saw the light of the day over a decade later.
Oh, one of those situations. Like splitting Lord of the Rings or Magician by Feist.
That makes sense.
That makes sense.
Well, these were his early works so I can see why the publisher was cautious with releasing a 2000 page monster by a still little known author. At least they didn't made him cut 1/3 of the text.

Don't you just love Lestat? I think he is great.
I'm reading multiple books right now:The Glass Rainbow, Sisters Red, Hannibal Rising, and Under the Dome
Tracy --I think that "interview With a Vampire" is the ONLY decent book that Anne Rice EVER wrote. I tried two or three after that, but I simply couldn't finish a single one -- Florid style, overwhelming to the point of nausea.
Kathy wrote: "Rachel wrote: "Queen of The Damned is my favorite Vampire Chronicle, they did screw up the movie, although i like Aaliyah in it."With no disrespect to Aaliyah...the movie became a means to show h..."
I found Queen of the Damned a challenge to plunge through (I think either Memnoch or Body Theif was my fav, if not Interview), if you haven't read the Mayfair Witch Chronicles, though, I highly reccommend them. I really wish they had gotten more than 3 books, I could go forever with them!
Currently I am reading (my 2nd)Broken, by Karin Slaughter. It picks up 4 years after Faithless and has been a great read so far!

Bondama, Have you tried The Vampire Lestat? Lestat was quite commical in that book and I also liked Blood Canticle. Beyond that, the witch series and the other vampire books was a little hard for me to stay with.
I'm reading Sophie's World: A Novel about the History of Philosophy, loving the mystery within the book.
Yes, Tracy, I almost made it through "Vampire Chronicles"... but not quite. I was excited when I heard about the Mayfair Chronicles, but, being a Wiccan myself, just could NOT take all the misinformation. I detest a writer who doesn't bother to truly research her own writing.
The Shadow Rising...book 4 of the Wheel of Time series. More than halfway done. I have all the other WOT books on my shelf so Im trying to mow through them.
Billy, I cannot tell you how delighted I am that you picked that particular book to read: it's (so far) Gaiman's masterpiece. He is reputed to have an encyclopedic knowledge of folklore and gods; this book proves it..
Yeah!!!At The Walking Dead panel actress Laurie Holden (Andrea) revealed that Stephen King might write an installment of the show's 13-episode second season and that Frank Darabont is penning the premiere. Jon Bernthal (Shane) informed the crowd that Season Two begins shooting June 1. [Screenrant]
