I don't think I'd realized that you're in India..
What do I enjoy about Lee Child's style? For me, there's something indescribable about his short, choppy sentences. Granted, it's not grammatically correct, but I think I love it simply because it's different.. you know? And the characterization of Jack Reacher is amazing, IMO. I really admire his take-nothing-from-nobody mindset.
Dustin wrote: "Aw, that's wonderful! Hopefully you can copies of them soon. I don't think I'd realized that you're in India.."Yeah I got hold of all of them, gonna start them within the weekend..there is simply no good literature available in my country (at least in English) so i naturally stick to American best sellers to get a good read.
I felt Lee Child's plots are even more ridiculous than the way he writes.I am happy that you enjoy him but he is simply not my cup of tea.If I may I will suggest Lincoln Child & his collaborations with Douglas Preston, their recurring protagonist Pendergast is much more enjoyable than Jack Reacher.
I'm currently reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. It's my first Gaiman book. .. it's interesting but can't imagine him becoming a fast favourite

American Gods is my favorite Gaiman book, maybe one day you'll give him another opportunity

Yay, I'm so glad you got a hold of them, Aditya! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on them!
Yep. To each their own. I actually haven't experienced Preston & Child (yet,) but they come highly recommended by several GR friends. I want to start with Relic, since it's the 1st book, and go from there. Thank you!

Hi, Malina!
I'm happy to hear that American Gods is a favorite of yours.:) It's one of my 2013 reading goals, and I cannot wait to finally read it!!

Have you read Neverwhere, Dustin? I keep meaning to get that one.

No, I've only read Gaiman's Anansi Boys. Thank you for asking, Jacob.

I'm definitely going to have to take a look at some of his stuff.
So, I've been mostly a lurker here and really appreciate all the great reading suggestions. I'd love to hear your advice: I've never read any of the Harry Potter series. Should I? Are they worth it, or highly overrated?

If you go in with a high expectation you may be disappointed..as far as YA novels are concerned they are good but I did not really think they are as special as many make them out to be.I know this may come out as a personal blow to Potter fans but the books don't justify the hype
I must add I don't like YA novels in general so you should get a second opinion. The protagonist Potter was simply too good (& wimpy) for my choice.I felt specially at the culmination of the series he could have benefited with a bit of a mean streak.
Sorry for the long post but read them if you have nothing better to do but don't go out of your way to get them.

Enjoying
a zombie anthology. Added bonus is one of my short stories has been accepted for their next anthology! :-)

Thanks for the post, Aditya. This was my fear exactly. I am a big fan of the Sword of Shannara books and was afraid that these just would not live up to my expectations. I've had a hard time getting into the whole Game of Thorns series as well. My stack of books to read is quite tall as it is. There's plenty to read, so I'll not waste my time.
Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks. I've already read them, but I was in middle school. I am rereading them because I wanna recapture the magic and the amazingness of this world.

Happy to help..I have not heard of Sword of Shannara series maybe I will check it out.
Dustin wrote: "You really think that Relic's their best? David wrote: "Thanks. I've already read them, but I was in middle school. I am rereading them because I wanna recapture the magic and the amazingness of this world."You're welcome. Yeah, I've read them before, too. I'm glad you're enjoying the re-read!

Oh, all right. I appreciate your feedback, Aditya. I only asked because not everyone's particularly fond of Relic, while others (such as yourself,) love it. I'm sorry to hear that the series has gone downhill..
I finished Monster Hunter Legion. I hate that it ended in a cliff hanger. I want the next one now!Now I'm reading Who I Am. I love The Who!
just started both Life After Life by Kate Atkinson and Snow in August by Pete Hamill. BOth good so far...

They are wonderful Angela. My advice....dive in and don't look back.
Dottie wrote: "just started both Life After Life by Kate Atkinson and Snow in August by Pete Hamill. BOth good so far..."Dottie- I'd love to hear your thoughts on Life After Life, once you're finished.
I just finished reading Straw Men by Michael Marshall. It was a good read but the ending failed to tie up some loose ends. So,I will move on to the second book in the Straw Men trilogy The Lonely Dead.

They are by Terry Brooks. He's got quite a few series all semi related. Have loved them for years.
Costas wrote: "I am about to start either Imajica or A Game of Thrones, can't really choose which one."I couldn't get into Game of Thrones. Let me know what you think. Everyone else seems to love them.
