Ditto to you both!... I never had people who I could talk books with or who understood why I wanted to read books, at all.
I never.... Would carry a book with me everywhere I go like it's my third child. My husband thinks I'm sick but, what the hay, I love to read at any time any where LOL.
Before goodreads, I thought I was strange for my choices in books.
Ah, warms my heart to see so many lonesome and lost book addicts having found safe haven among the joyous plains of GoodReads. heheSeriously though, everyone fits in perfectly here at SOS, that's for sure. I'm with all of you in your ...nevers... and LOVE having found so many great people to chat books with here. :)
...was an addict....started the next book 5 seconds after last one.
...fell behind with my chores.

...ran out of money to spend on books.
...was attached to my laptop. And now I have my new smart phone...

Before Joining GoodReads, I Never ... 1. knew how many AWESOME paranormal romances there were out there!
2. owned own a Kindle
3. budget money for books!
4. knew what I was missing!
5. Had to worry about getting fired for constantly browsing my goodreads instead of working! (oops!)
6. Go through a 12 step program for becoming a bookaholic!
7. Knew what team I would be on! ( Team Edward or Team Jacob) GASP!

I have a kindle with a black leather cover... at first it just looked like some type of expensive notebook...but I think it's become quite obvious what it is!

I'm luckier I don't have many eyes on me. It's a small business but I'll be leaving there in a couple of weeks, and before you ask I wasn't fired, I got bored and my contract was coming to an end so I quit.

Oh, I hope not. But, I can't really say as I work at home and don't have to worry about how much time I spend out here. Otherwise, I might be in trouble. Actually, I doubt I would've created a group if I was working outside of my home. I don't think I'd be able to stay away for too long.
GoodReads has some sort of gravitational pull to it ... sucks ya in and doesn't let go. LOL!

I'm self employed - I'd fire me though - I've spent more time on goodreads and associated sites and reading of course, than i have spent actually working over the last few months. Need to work more so I can buy more books LOL

When I was working, I did get 'talked to' about reading at work. Not one of my better days.I'm sure my husband would fire me too. lol. He's the one to notice all the stuff that hasn't been done lately, I'm the one with the good excuses.
My workplace blocks goodreads site, so surfing there isn't an issue for me. good thing! ;)I do frequently listen to audiobooks while I work, though... Only if I am doing something where I can listen while I work, though. Sometimes, I have to turn it off if I am doing something complicated.

My hubby has been feeling neglected lately thought, because when I am in the kitchen cooking my netbook is right there at my elbow stuck between a recipie site and here... lol, clean up after dinner gets forgotten now... ;o)

Nope, you're definitely not alone in this group. We ALL have the same addiction. LOL Flib, I think I'd have to ask my employer to block the site, if it wasn't already. I don't know if I'd have the willpower to resist otherwise.
Sometimes I don't know if my iPhone is a blessing or a curse. I finally manage to walk away from my computer, only to check email and GR iApp on my phone. LOL Kinda defeats the purpose I had when I walked away ....
I'm tellin' ya - as I said above - GoodReads has some sort of gravitational pull to it ... sucks ya in and doesn't let go! :D All I can do is hang on and enjoy the ride.

I can't believe there was a time when I used to struggle to find books I might like to rea..."i agree. before goodreads i was unhappy with my reading choices. i found books read them but was unsatisfied with what i was reading and mainly wouldn't finish the book. i found one book. and eventually found another. but i'm not too sure if it was because the consumer needs have changed or i'm finding things easier.
and then i found goodreads and my mini library has expanded, and i'll never have nothing to read ever again.
now that i've found the right genre that i love (sorry i should say genres- PNR and UF). i can't seem to stop reading. i found this site through yahoo answers where someone was asking what they should read and i was adding them to my list. and i decided to follow the link and the rest they say is history.

Before Goodreads I never went to the library. I either bought books or didn't read. I used to buy 3 or more books at a time no I hardly buy any.

When "True Blood" came on TV, my best friend said, "She's copying Stephenie Meyer ...." (only b/c it had vamps in it) I laughed and told her Meyer wasn't the first writer to write about vamps and that Charlaine's series was out way before Twilight. She couldn't believe it. LOL!

Really! Like it's the first and only. Not. I've tried to push her to try other vamp stories out there. I think she's slowly but surely starting to check out others.

well......my book addiction started long before Goodreads. I've been addicted since I was 4 years old. I don't really remember a time when I didn't want to read almost every book I could get my hands on.Before Goodreads I never.....
realized what an enormous task it was to try and get all my TBR books listed in one place. Of course, I've only got about 150 of the 800+ books I own listed.......this could definitely take awhile.....
I hear ya! I don't have all mine listed here. I'm too lazy. I add lots to my wishlist and always add whenever I start a new book. But, I have way more than are listed @ GR. I track them with my computer software, BookPedia, that's plenty good for me. I'll use that time to read vs. enter them here. ;)
Well - whether I put them here or somewhere else, it still takes time! LOLOL Right now I have about a dozen dupes that I know of.......of course, I couldn't remember when I saw them at the UBS whether I had them yet or not!Besides, there are some challenges I've seen where it would be necessary to have at least some of my books listed. I started with the YA cuz I THOUGHT they were pretty well contained.....I'm finding out I was terribly wrong......they are everywhere!

... felt like a slow reader. I've always been the one with my nose in a book, and I've always been the only one - and now I can name half a dozen people hereabouts who are kicking my behind in GR reading challenge.
Me? I never used to have so many books TBR. But, I also never read as much as I do now, so I guess it all equals out in some twisted sort'a way. :)
