I have been going in and adding to my lists not only as I read but also as I find books that I'd previously read but didn't remember titles for.

the problem is--I don't remember when I read a lot of mine. :o) And frankly, with over 3k--I don't plan on going back to put the dates in now either. But I'll think about doing that from now on.

Maybe something else that may be throwing off the numbers is books added to TBR status? I think I have six books listed in my TBR as I tagged them while in a discussion about something and wanted to remember them. I have no desire to list all the books I plan on reading. Heck, I have maybe 300-400 unread books in my bedroom alone that I don't want to go through and enter into the system.
None the less, it is a cool feature and thank you for pointing it out Lisa.

I have a good memory for plots and characters--even if I have a horrible time with names. :o) So I've been adding the books as I come across someone else talking them. I've also put in a few "what's the name of that book" requests.

i think I have been good at keeping track though I have read 20 more then that but some of them must be audio's

Ann, I'm 41. If my mother is to be believed, I've been reading since I was five. I know by the time I was 12 I was reading a book every couple of days. So I picked 30 years as a ballpark figure. I've had my slow years where I only read a 100 books and some not so slow years. I remember a period when my college requested I take some time off from attending their fine institution (I was suspended for a year) I averaged 2200 pages a week.
I can't imagine not being able to see clearly. I work as a photographer and vision is VERY important to me.

My son's vision is 20/1200 and we couldn't get his prescriptions adjusted until he was about 4. I remember the first good pair of glasses we got. He told me, "Wow, mommy, so that's what you look like." I just cried, right in the doctor's office.

And part of why I hadn't gotten glasses before was my mouth. I have horrible teeth (soft, brittle) and when I was 5 I started having problems with absesses in them. It wasn't til I was 8 after almost 2.5 years on massive doses of antibiotics that the dentist was finally able to get everything cleared up. Until then, every eye dr. that my parents took me to told them the same thing, "The vision problems and headaches are caused by her dental problems. Once those are cured she'll be fine." Um, yeah, not so much. I STILL couldn't see and still had the headaches (which, btw, I STILL have--seems even then I was having migraines.) So Mum took me to yet a different eye dr. And this one just had screaming fits at Mum. When she was finally able to get a word in, she pulled all my records out of her purse and showed him that she'd been taking me in--on average about every 6 months or so--and what the dr's had all said. There were a few dr's who got nasty grams put into their files because of that.
lol, the funny thing is--my eye sight is slowly getting better. According to my current eye dr, if it continues at the current rate, I'll have 20/20 vision about the time I hit 279 or so. Of course, that's if there are no OTHER problems (you know, cataracts, detached retinas etc.)

If you make it to 279, you are far less human than I thought. :)
Sorry that you get headaches but glad that the eyes are improving.

I was a little miffed, though, LOL! I only became a Goodreads member in 2008, but while I pondered my stats, it hit me: when I started adding books, I had put down dates of when I read them. So, now that it's been giving me stats back from 2005, it made sense, LOL!
I can say that the stats are off, though, so I'm going to have to look into this. I've been keeping track of the number of books and the number of pages I've read since 2007. The total I have, so far, for this year, is 25,746 pages, and that's going with the page count directly from Goodreads. However, the stat says only 23,071, so it's not right.
Has anyone else noticed this? Do your stats match your personal count?

there were a few that I rated and reviewed that still said to read. which i thought was odd as usually when you rate it it normally goes to read. Things like that

When you add a book to your list, do you make sure that you pick the same edition as the one you read? If you choose a different edition, your total may not agree with the total in stats. For example, you might select the hardcover edition of a book (350 pages), but the book you read was actually a mass market paperback edition (420 pages).
The same applies if you're looking at the page count in Goodreads. Are you looking at the same edition that you linked to when you added the book to your list?

Therefore, this is where my dilemma lies. If the page count is the same everywhere, and I use the page count off Goodreads when I write them down in my planner, why do the stats not match my planner? Weird, n'est-ce pas?

There are so many more books, both fiction and non-fiction, that I have read over the last decade or so, but I am too lazy to try to research and include Every Single One of Them.
However, this year I look forward to seeing how that number will change, as I am diligently recording my progress, and ALL the books I am reading.

If you go to your profile and look at the bottom of where it lists your shelves, you'll see STATS. If you click on that, it will tell you how many books you've read each year since joining Goodreads and it also has an option for number of pages read!
Very cool!
I'm at 34,803 pages
