Eugene (eugeniu) After waiting over 20 days to get A Game of Thrones after placing it on hold from my library, I finally got it! And the book has apparently never been checked out before because it's in near-mint condition. I'm probably a bit late though.

Nope. Horrible, horrible stuff.

Also, I lie.

A lot.

That he does.

Karen | 24 comments Have you ever had a four course meal consisting of all the foods you know you shouldnt eat but cant bring yourself to say no to, followed by too many glasses of some wine that you love but know you'll regret in the morning? well top that off with a cuban cigar and some multiple orgasms, and that is about how good this series can be. is it good for you...probably not, is it worth it...ohhhhh yessss

That has to be one of the greatest descriptions EVER! Leave it to you, Karen. Why didn't you ever force me to eat this feast before?

message 9: by David (new)

David Maine | 19 comments I guess I have to jump in, too. I like a lot of GRRM's old SF stuff (I mean, really old, from the 80s & early 90s--ever read the story "Sandkings"?), but the last mega-series I tried to get into was Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, which I fount bloated and slow and, frankly, kind of dull. (I quit after about 2 books IIRC.)

I've been looking for a nice, deep series to immerse myself into for a while, and Karen's "too much food + Cuban cigares + multiple orgasms" description above pretty much did it. There goes my summer, I guess. Thanks Karen!

Karen | 24 comments Books come to their readers when they are ready Brad, besides a forced read is never as enjoyable as when you come to it in your own time. Glad you like it though. Myself I can barely wait till the 12th of July when dance with dragons comes out and David, it is such a whirl of a good read, it may not be "high literature" but after reading the 4 books that are out three times a piece I can say there is nuance in there, and yes your summer will be filld with finding them.

Daniel (dward526) | 0 comments They had a bundle of ebooks on sale at kobo (first four) so I am no longer waiting for the library :). As soon as I clear my reading list I am cracking these open

Leigh (leighb) | 39 comments I'm working my way through the first one. It's slow going, a complex novel with lots and lots of characters. Whew!

message 13: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 210 comments I have to admit, I read this about 2 or 3 years ago and did not find much enjoyment out of it. I was bored, confused and generally disinterested in most of the characters and plots.

Having said that, I see sooo many good things about this book and series, and I'm in a place right now where I'm loving the different worlds fantasy has to offer, so I decided to give it another read with fresh eyes. So glad I did ... this book is great. Such great character development, such great intrigue, it's a book you have to sit down and pay attention with. No rushing through to get to the end, you must savor the excellence that martin has created. Love it, excited for the rest of the series
