Apropos to nothing prior in this thread, I came here to say that I want sometimes just to write a short story to release a little bit of memory while also managing to retain it as well.

I wish we had a Russian member. I have so many Russian questions, like, do they have jack-o-lanterns in Russia?

message 2370: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Also, can a Russian see Alaska from their house? Do they look, or do they avert their eyes? Are they horrified or enchanted by Sarah Palin?

message 2371: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24788 comments Mod
I'm going to guess horrified.

Random picture.

Park Falls, Wisconsin

That is way north, not all that far from Duluth, MN.

message 2380: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Have you been there recently? I love the Park Falls area. At least late spring through early autumn.

I actually haven't been there at all. I just saw that picture on a blog and it was so pretty, it looked like a great spot to vacation. I just love vacation houses on the water.

Phil | 11841 comments One of our guests lives in Richland, WA. That's right next door to Misha.

Where the hell is Misha?

message 2383: by Félix (new)

Phil | 11841 comments Was wondering today if Gail or Evie have ever used the term 'fair dinkum,' or 'plonk' or 'drongo.'

message 2387: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4443 comments I have probably said "drongo," but not recently.

"Fair dinkum" = no.

"plonk" I've said that.

I've said "Get that dingo away from me, I'm footy tipping!"

message 2389: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4443 comments Were you on the plonk ?

message 2390: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24788 comments Mod
Yes, I was walking the plonk.

message 2391: by [deleted user] (new)

I've said "plonker", but never plonk. What's plonk?

message 2397: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11841 comments My cousin posted the following on FB. Can anyone translate for me (beyond telling me my cousin is a pretentious northwest snob)?

"I am thankful for my Zoka coffee brewed in my Moka pot! Great way to end a busy week with very little sleep and too much to do. Thank God it is Friday!"

What's so special about zoka? What's a moka? Why do so many people enjoy telling everyone how much they have to do and how little time to do it?

message 2398: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I don't have time to explain this to you.

message 2399: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24788 comments Mod
Never heard of Zoka and Moka. The coffee I drank today, "Java Delight," I bought at a Walmart Supercenter near my vacation rental. I did, however, brew it in a Croka with a Bloka.

message 2400: by Phil (last edited Nov 02, 2012 02:55PM) (new)

Phil | 11841 comments I just went to the Zoka website and the first sentence of "History" told me all I needed to know. The shop was started by a UW grad, and those people are pretty much all pretentious assholes whose shit don't stink.

The coffee is something called "single origin." While I don't know what that means, and I certainly don't care, I do know that it's pretty damn snobby.
