So many new people!! Welcome, welcome all.

Hi I'm Carolyn - long time sci-fi reader (1970s). I prefer straight sci-fi to fantasy, I have no idea why those genres are grouped together. At this moment my favorite writers are Ann Aguirre and S.L. Viehl and the duo of Sharon Lee and Steve Miller.

The ebook is currently out on Kindle, iBooks and Smashwords.

Was just commenting at lun..."
Dune is my favourite also, all of it, minus the later additions. Fantasy hmm, depends on what kind ;-) CoTC is at least very near the top of the heap :-)

26 books in a yeaar is pretty impressive! Way to go! (lucky if I get through ten!)

You should try "Dead to Me" from Anton Strout if you liked the Dresden series, its the 1st one of a 4 part series :-)

I was an athelete in College (so I'm not the smartest here)I prefer to be outdoors more than anything. That might be why I cant get books on my shelf. I love running, hiking, my family and my dog.
I got a Kindle as a birthday present and love it. Im new to the fantasy group and finding time to read. Just here to tag a long and here some reviews of books I want to add to the list.

I never had to look for a community of book-lovers, until I came up with this idea yesterday:

So I'm being honest about it :)
Definitely like the organisation of this community here and look forward to finding some good books and better stories!

My name is Chris and I'm a lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia. I work a ton and spend the time I'm not working with my son or reading. I just got a Kindle for last Christmas and so that is a recent ground for me. I read all the fantasy I could find in the library as a kid and in the last couple of years I've rediscovered my love for the genre. I listen to fiction podcasts like the Drabblecast and the Escape Artists and those have helped introduce me to how big the world of fantasy is beyond my local bookstore.
I'm looking forward to being part of this community and to discovering new (at least to me) authors and types of stories I might otherwise not run across.

I began reading early, read LOTR and the Hobbit at age 12, then moved onto the Mists of Avalon, and ever since then, I have devoured every book that I can get my hands on in Epic Fantasy, Fantasy, some other types of fiction, and lately have delved into the dark fantasy realm. I really do not like romance books or anything to do with that so its been a difficult transition to the dark fantasy realm of reading as i pick up a book, *boom* there's the romance part, close it and put it down and walk on by. And I do not believe, after reading so much Ann Rice and other authors renditions that vampires should "sparkle" so the Twilight series is something I avoid and do not care for, for that reason and many others I just don't like that series of books or movies.
I also read alot of historical non-fiction and fiction and I do love a good international historical book, myths, legends, documentaries, and thesis type books that delve into why things were created, their meanings, and what they can teach us.
I have a Kindle eink reader and a newly acquired Kindle Fire. I find though that I do enjoy both ebooks and the large tomes of series combined together such as The Sword of Shannara omnibus, also The Dragonbone Chair, and one of my all time favorites To Green Angel Tower.
I love the museum quality paper limited edition books mostly leather bound, its the just the smell and feel of the book itself and knowing that not only is that perfect but the story about to take place inside the book is awesomeness!
I am and have been an avid reader my whole life but I still need to broaden my horizons a bit however, when I try I inevitably bump into that romance factor and put the book down, so its been a challenge to say the least. Maybe can get some new ideas from this group and try some new genres.

I'm in the process of restoring a chunk of overgrazed land with trees and the water beneath it. No chemicals added and no waste. I rescue any cat that makes it this far from where they're dumped on the highway, and my dog makes sure nothing bothers them here. Don't tell him he's not a 75 pound cat. It would break his heart.
I'm an e-book pioneer. I first e-published in 1993. I published my backlist and several new works in '11. Now here is where this gets different.
In '92 I won two Fan'Qs for the first two stories I had written. That's literal. I'd written poetry and research papers, but never a story. I expected the Dr. Who. I did not expect the mixed media (crossover), for my very first story. That's when five women asked me to "Write for us. You can do it," and handed me their business cards. I write elegant, eloquent, charming 'superheroes' for smart women SF fans. And after 20 years, I'm still the only one who, specifically, does.

Question for sci-fi fans on categories? Just where do most readers classify the group from modern days transplanted back in time go ... books like 1632 series by Eric Flint for example? Do most people consider these simply science fiction or is there a sub-category for these and other post apocolypse books?

If you like David Weber's books, you may want to try some of the various series by David Drake, S. M. Stirling, Eric Flint and Lois Bujold. David Weber is one of my favorite authors and I like most of everything the others I mentioned have written. Eric Flint is the author of one of my absolute top-10 stand-alones Mother of Demonsand I can't think of anything Lois Bujold has written that I haven't liked and most of them are in my permanent library and re-read often.

I've just joined goodreads. I'm just trying to get more exposure to the books that are out there. And find people who like the same books I do.
Kindle or death! jk

My name is Brenda Clough, and I write F and SF. I am a member of Book View Cafe, a publishing co-op of SF writers. Our ebooks are both originals and reprints.

It's thrilling to know all of you here. You guys are amazing. I don't write books, I'm just a part time blogger which is recently a bit ignored for having to many books to read. LOL.
I use Iriver cover story EB05 for my e-reader. So far, it's not easy to get legal ebooks in Indonesia. Therefore, I mostly downloaded from online sharing website. Thanks to those kind men who uploaded the ebooks :) . Though I can get ebooks easily and illegally, I still buy printed books that I'm attracted to collect.

I hope that you will go to her fanpage and like it and read more about her book "Wendy the Witch" it will be comming out in the Spring of 2012. Here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/authorpatsyriver...

I've worked many years in the animal field & a year ago decided to go back to college for Psychology.
I'm playing catch up on my x-mas break here & have managed to read 7 books since 12/20/11. I joined this group to get the scoop on the best sci-fi/fantasy books out there! Happy reading!

Where do I start? My name is Ivan and I am originally from Puerto Rico and I have traveled all over the world. I currently am living out in the western US after spending most of my life in the east coast.
Since Ereaders (KINDLE is my favorite) came on the market I been reading at least a book a month. Although I have not updated my profile to reflect this.
I read philosophy, sci-fi, history, inspirational and a few other genres that I cannot think of at the moment.
I geek out on SCI-FI, particularly Star Trek, Gears of War and Mass Effect.
I am also working on my own books and I run a local writers group.
Happy belated New year to everyone I look forward to getting to know all of you.

My name is Stephanie and I am a Corporate Educator from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My primary role is corporate training and curriculum development. I am also a wife and mother - I have two little boys. I am also a self-published author.
I like many kinds of fiction, but this genre is the most interesting to me. My favorite books in this genre are by OR Melling, but that changes daily.
I use the Kindle app for iPad and iPhone, but I have an IT background and am a complete geek.
Hi everyone! It's nice to be here.

My name is Phil Stern, and I'm an author. I have three Sci-Fi works up on Kindle right now that are also linked to my Goodreads page.
I also blog at www.philstern.com, and have a few blogs up now about Heinlein and Star Trek.
I'm very happy to be part of the group, and will check back often.

Like many others here, I also write. The Bronze Mage and The Green-Eyed Mage are high fantasy romances available for the Kindle, Nook and iPod/iPad/iPhone.
Currently, I've been reading more children's fantasy series. That's a job hazard of volunteering at a school library. I joined this group to get back into some "grown-up" titles.

My name is Erin and I am from Niagara Falls, NY. I am a social worker.
I have just started getting back into reading and I am most interested in fiction and fantasy books.
I was one of those people who couldn't stand the idea of getting rid of my actual books, but then I got a Kindle for Christmas and I could not imagine reading without it now.
I have just started writing my very first book, and could not be more excited!
Erin

My name is Darren Humphries and I'm a bit of a sci fi geek, but I don't get as much time as I'd like to read, but I do like to hang out with people who do.
My ereader of choice is the kindle and I have two, one for home and titchy one for travelling with.
I live in Oxfordshire UK and am also part of the UK Kindle Users forum also on Goodreads here.
I've been reading sci fi for a long time and love AC Clarke, the Dune books and assorted other stuff.
Hope to converse with you soon.

I like to read fantasy and some science fiction books.
I have a one year old kindle, that is my favourite toy.

I am Annamarie. I love to read most genres but Science fiction and Fantasy hold a special place in my heart. Possibly from all the comics I read when I was younger. I have been an avid reader since I was little and have been known to carry 3 or 4 books around that I would read simultaneously.
I bought the classic Nook in November when it was on sale. I didn't expect to like the digital format because I like the feel and smell of books. LOL. However I really like the convenience of being able to conveniently carry my library with me now. I am slowly building my ebook library, now.

Anyway, I'm Jeff. Author of MATHION: BOOK ONE OF THE MAVONDURI TRILOGY. I hope you all will take a look. Any Tolkien fans in this group? (obligatory dumb question)

Of course I am a Tolkien fan.

That is a wonderful way to put it, Jeff. I read and write fantasy, although I've been re-reading Wheel of Time in anticipation of the last book.
In fantasy, a mage can wield a small rod, and with said bar, destroy a mountain. Yet the great cities have no electricity.

I am Chris Allen, AKA Gus Gallows. I'm the author of The Price Of Honor: Book 1 Of The Minotaurs Of Algoron. I am an avid Fantasy reader but also like to delve into Sci-fi and spy or covert ops type thrillers. My major enfluences are The Dragon Lance Chronicles, Disc World, The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, the Xanth series and early Tom Clancy. I love wacky humor, but write more on the side of dark epic fantasy. I look forward to talking to you guys and reading your recommendations.

My name is Juliet and I'm an aspiring fantasy author and a published travel author. I love both sci-fi and fantasy, I have a short attn span and books in these genres are able to hold my attn for more than a chapter. I love books that introduce a sci-fi or fantasy element in to the story in a realistic or almost mundane way. Recently released favorites are The Magicians and The History of Witches. They inspired me to finally put the stories in my mind on to paper.
Currently reading Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.

I'm Sunny. I hail from the American South. I would love to live in another country for a while. I've always been an avid reader but for a while I had stopped reading as much until I discovered used book stores. My reading picked up some but it has really increased since I got my Kindle Fire last year. Having access to free e-books has been great. I still love hardcover books for nostalgia and still will use them but this e-reader is great!

It's bloody brilliant.
My name is Kate, and Fantasy is the genre I prefer.
I really enjoy Terry Goodkind (Even though he doesn't think he is 'Fantasy') and Patrick Rothfuss, just to name two.
I work on a farm, and I don't have many friends because I chose to read and do something with my life besides sitting around and doing drugs all day, so I'm fine with not having many friends. =]
I hope this is a welcoming place, I look forward to meeting new people!!
