I finished Silver On The Tree by Susan Cooper today. Second S, New Read, added another post to the discussion, and it qualifies for Kelley's challenge (Friendship)- the success of everything in this book relies almost completely on the bonds and strength of the ties between these friends.
That's 18 pts and 288 pgs.
I keep forgetting about the monthly challenges when I figure my points, so I would also like to add an additional 5 points to The Grey King, because the friendship created in that book is completely integral to that story, and the conclusion of the series.

You are right, Angela, sorry. I was using the edition I had with me that I marked in my bookshelves, which was the paperback edition. I tagged the hardcover in my post. Paperback says 416, hardcover says 410. We'll go with the 410! Sorry about that!

Kristen, I'm jealous! I absolutely love Robin McKinley! Did you like the book?!
Ugh it didn't let me save my comment. Okay, to be honest - I haven't read anything of hers that hits a 5 star read for me. This one was the same way. It was a bit boring and action-less for my tastes. (Took me three weeks reading on and off to finally finish it - which is really unusual for me). IT really centered on the political and personal relationship between the princess and her pegasus. In fact, the only thing close to action was the cliffhanger at the end - which made me a little mad. I was like what??? Finally there will be some action and then the book ends... I can't say I hated it though - it was really interesting and McKinley can definitely paint a world with her words. And the only other two books I've read by her were Sunshine and The Hero and the Crown and they were probably 3-4 star books for me. I think she's just to slow-moving for me.
Angela - I am not sure that Kellee's challenge was up when I posted Mockingjay on Tuesday. I have commented on the discussion and if it applies it would give me 10 extra points for that book? Can it be applied at this point?

Kristen, thanks for the reply. I hope I like it more than you did... My favorites of hers are The Hero and the Crown, and its companion novel/sequel (it takes place hundreds of years later) The Blue Sword and Beauty, her first retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I didn't like Sunshine much, but some of her books do move a little slower in the beginning. I know it took me a while to get into The Blue Sword. I was resisting the book, because I wasn't a fan of fantasy when I was younger, but my friend was bribing me. It took me almost a month to read the first 3 chapters, and I finished the rest of it in an afternoon. I think I like it better than Hero.
