Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Nifty! That would certainly help!!! I'm strictly a "for pleasure" reader. Details like cities, states, or countries don't tend to stick in my head for long.

Kristen (k10bentley) | 422 comments Alright, ever since I saw Paul McCartney in concert last month, I've been a bit obsessed - albeit, 40 years too late. I've already got my third Beatles-related bio sitting on my night stand waiting for me to finish #2.

Anyway, I've got some rough ideas for a Beatles-related challenge. Something either with song titles, song characters and/or their different styles. Something a bit like the antique challenge, but with Beatles themes.

Would anyone be interested??

I really like this idea!

Love anything Beatles :D

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Ditto :)

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but I'm sure I would enjoy the challenge. As long as I don't have to read a cowboy book......cowboy's are smelly, and NOT in a good way.

message 207: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (k10bentley) | 422 comments I TOTALLY agree with the smelly cowboys. Ewww....

Here Comes the Sun - Vamp book

Hey Jude - book with a first name in either the title or series name

I Want to Hold Your Hand - YA book with some romance

Magical Mystery Tour - character who practices magic OR a mystery book - great category for a Harry Dresden book, since they fit both. :)

Penny Lane - street/road on the cover OR a main character lives in the suburbs

Strawberry Fields Forever - pink or red cover

Yesterday - character gets dumped OR time travel book

Across the Universe - book set in space

Yellow Submarine - yellow cover

Lady Madonna - character with a royal title - king, queen, lord, lady, etc.

When I'm 64 - 6th or 4th book in a series

I've Just Seen a Face - character who sees ghosts

message 220: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Challenge idea... LA Banks series challenge...

I think I saw a similar challenge for the Jaz Parks series, and since we lost another good writer this year, might be a way to work thru her series.

Maybe a year long version with her 12 books from the Vampire Huntress Legend series staring with Minion.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments That would be really cool! Especially since I have almost all of the books already, but haven't read any of them.

There is also another series by her. Crimson Moon.

Bad Blood (Crimson Moon, #1) by L.A. Banks Bite the Bullet (Crimson Moon, #2) by L.A. Banks Undead on Arrival (Crimson Moon, #3) by L.A. Banks Cursed to Death (Crimson Moon, #4) by L.A. Banks Never Cry Werewolf (Crimson Moon, #5) by L.A. Banks Left for Undead (Crimson Moon, #6) by L.A. Banks

message 222: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Hey maybe two challenges - a 6 month version with Crimson Moon series too.

I started with her Crimson Moon series and read all of them and liked them. Then started collecting the vampire series, and I've only read the first one in the Huntress.

message 223: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25907 comments Well you can set them up in the same thread as Jaz Parks, that's how Charlotte did it. This is very straight forward, not much to look after :)

Go for it!

message 224: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Same thread? *eek* :\ Maybe a thread all her own?
~Love, Steph's OCDemoness~

message 225: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25907 comments I meant where the thread is, not the same thread. LOL

I knew what I meant, sorry about the confusion ;)

message 226: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments I'll try to be creative with it this weekend... Would SOS or Dark Side be better for the Huntress series? thoughts??

Either or both, Lis :D

message 229: by Valorie (new)

Valorie | 446 comments I had an idea, but it's not really a challenge so I'm not sure where to post. I'm also in the RRRC group and they have been having a book raffle kind of thing going on for awhile now, which kinda gave me a "Secret Santa" kind of used book swap with members here idea. I'm not sure how difficult it would be for the mods to organize. I'm not sure if there should be an international version and a US version or just match up people according to how they are willing to ship. I'm thinking it might work kinda like this...
The mods could match people who would like to be a part of this and have the "giver" look at their "receiver's" wish list or to buy list or a list where they have books they want to get and pick a used book that the "giver" has available to give. This is just an idea and if there are enough people willing to join in, please feel free to "tweak" this idea anyway you guys feel necessary!

message 231: by Valorie (new)

Valorie | 446 comments Thanks Judithe! Hopefully you ladies can figure out a way to make it work. I wasn't quite sure how to organize it, but thought it would be fun.

message 232: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Thanks for the idea, Valorie. We considered something like this last year. Maybe this year we can find a way to make it work. :)

message 234: by Christine (new)

Christine | 850 comments I am loving the "I Spy" title challenge. I was wondering if we could take that challenge and for a second round turn it into a cover hunt challenge: instead of one of the items being in the title, it would have to be pictured on the cover. We could use a lot of the categories already in the title challenge, but would have to tweak a few. It would be hard to find a picture of an emotion or the five senses or time of day. Just a thought.

message 235: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Nice idea, Christine! We have batted around a few ideas for a new "I Spy", and we'll put that one in the mix, too! Look for that in the new year!

Looks pretty good to me Christine. Do you want to start it now or wait till July and go through to June 2013?

message 243: by Christine (new)

Christine | 850 comments Thanks everyone! I love my 80s tunes and tying together my two favorite things (books and music) was a lot of fun. Do you think there are too many other challenges starting now, that we should hold this one for a few months, or just go with it now?

Judithe | 6566 comments Oh yeah...I know that one, too!

As for start date, you can put it as an open challenge (one year from when you sign up, setting your own start date) when you do put it up. Personally, I'm fine with starting now or later. What does everyone else think?

message 246: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL Christine. As soon as Sandra made that comment the song popped into my head. Now it's stuck - at least for the day anyway. Thanks! LOL!

message 247: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments It does sound like fun! There were so many challenges coming on line January I'd be afraid of not making it... I would vote for later when I might be braver to join.

I think we actually need a challenge monitor that catches all the "I'm in's" that forgot to come back to the challenges and add books... I still think I'm missing a few!

message 248: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL! I dib Lis as challenge monitor. hehe >:)

message 249: by Christine (new)

Christine | 850 comments Steph wrote: "LOL! I dib Lis as challenge monitor. hehe >:)"

I'll second that! Tee-hee.

Maybe this reveals what a geek I am, but whenever I start a new challenge I make a Word document for it. Then I can format it and edit it as I go and just cut and paste from that document into GR without having to go back and find my previous post to edit. And yes, I copy the link to the challenge page into the document as well. Oh lord, I'm not just a geek, I'm a total geek!

message 250: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments *Snort* Lis, there is a reason the Member Lists folder is growing...and growing....and growing! I found one thread wasn't adequate...and started my own little group to keep track of the little buggers...

Good luck to our new Challenge Monitor, LIS! *grin*
