What are "the buttons" I see so many commented about?

I've been blogging a few years. If you're getting started then look up sites like problogger.net and copyblogger.com for good ideas to benchmark. Wordpress gets used by close to 90% of the professional bloggers due to flexibility and Search Engine Optimization. Also tie your blog to your goodreads account via RSS.

I mostly blog when I have project news to post like finishing writing a story and then it auto-magically shows up on my goodreads updates. (I've done heavy modifications before but lately run a fairly stock template http://jgordonsmith.com).

I have both a blog and a website. They serve somewhat different purposes. I appreciate the blog because the interface makes it easy to post frequently and to alter posts w/o bothering w/html coding.
My website is more in-depth and has more about me. My blog is mostly about my books and my interest in psychology. I also use it to host author pals of mine when they have new releases.
