I really liked Tales of Despereaux... I thought it was super cute. I am enjoying the Series of Unfortunate Events, but I think the narrator explains what too many of the words mean. Some times its nice, but it seems almost every page is telling me what a word means. I think its a tad too much, even for kids.
Really? That's what I love about the series, one reason anyway. I like how he explains the words in their meaning to the Baudelaires, instead of giving a dictionary meaning. One of my favorite explanations is in The Reptil Room when he's explaining about the phrase "Meanwhile, back at the ranch." :)
I didnt really mind him explaining what phrases mean. It was more like the words. I felt that the narrator would be "this word means this" then there would be on the next page "children do you know what this means" and they would be like "yeah it means this" then on another page, there would be a word that wasn't defined at all that probably should have been.Tale of Despereaux had some word defining also, but I thought it was done in a cuter, more clever way...and the book wasnt filled with it the way that the Series of Unfortunate Events appears to be.
Ohh okay. Yeah, that makes sense. I can see how that would be annoying.I really want to read ToD :)

I too will most likely be waiting for the dvd, maybe longer.
Will definitely be moving that up on my list of 'to read', now if I can keep from getting distracted XD
You know I did like it. It flowed well...but I really really wish she had created her own characters. The xmen influence on Juliette and some of the others was ridiculous. I liked the villian though. He reminds me of the guy from The Green Mile and the guy from Of Mice and Men.
