Needed a break from intense so have startedSomebody Tell Aunt Tillie She's Deadwhich seems to have a lot of possibilities so far.
Finished The Alloy of Law and I must say, I enjoyed it a great deal. Had a steampunk feel. Now on to Sheepfarmer's Daughter.Ha, great title, Sharon!
Just finished The Way of Shadows and started The Name of the Wind. Only couple of hundred pages in and can't wait to get back to it.
Just finished the First Law trilogy and the conclusion of the highly entertaining Nightside series. I'm now continuing with The Blood Knight by Greg Keys and finally taking on the beast that is The Wheel of Time.
I was reading The Passage but had to stop. There is to many GD's in there. I by no means have virgin ears but GD makes me sick at my stomach. After 3 CDs I was done.I am now listening to Unleashed which is more my kind of book anyway.
Reading Bloodfever and it's definitely what I need right now compared to my other read that I can only get through about three pages at a time. :(
I am reading The Lion, The Lamb and The Hunted by Andrew Kaufman. This is the second novel I have read from him and it is great. He is also a GR author.

I haven't started it yet because I have several others to read first. Did you read this one? What were your thoughts on it?
I enjoyed it a lot. The faerie part is well-done, very dark. Mac starts out very immature, but she adjusts and matures over the course of the book. I think most people don't like her personality because she's a girly girl and she had to grow up a lot. If you like faerie, you will probably enjoy it.Here is my review:

I feel silly to ask but what are GD's?
I'm currently reading
and it's...a steep learning curve. I find myself glossing over a lot because I don't quite understand or can't picture it. It's gotten so many reviews that I'm going to finish it but I'm wondering if it's just too hard scifi for me, a genre I don't read a lot of in the first place. Maybe if I'd read more scifi in general it would be easier to understand, I dunno.Meanwhile
is easy to get into and enjoyable so far though I'm focusing on Quantum because it's *cough* overdue at the library. Yay for no library overdue fees! I'm also reading
on my Kindle but I've only read the first few chapters so far. It's quite dark.
I'm finally reading The Night Circus! I'm not halfway yet. It's so very different. I think it's lovely, even though I have no idea how I would ever tell anyone what this book was about. The writing is just so beautiful and so descriptive that I find myself completely sucked in. I can see why you'd either love or hate it, though.
Yeah, I rather enjoyed it, but have many friends who disliked it. There's something to be said for something that produces strong reactions one way or another. Better that, I think, then just a bunch of people saying, "It was okay. I guess." :)
I don't know which cat did it, but one of the little jerks broke my kindle :( I WAS reading The Winds of Khalakovo but now I cannot.I'm sighing a million sighs. At least real books can't break.

How did that happen! Knock it off the table or something? Deep breaths.
Amazon is pretty easy-going about replacing them. At least they have been for my wife and I (no cats, but do have two small children).I think we've paid for three kindles but gone through six. :)
As for real books not breaking, my autistic daughter went through a phrase where she became obsessed with tearing paper. Let's just say we lost more than a few books during that period. ;)

I will not kick the cat. I will not kick the cat. I will not kick the cat. I will not kick the cat. I will not kick the cat. I will not kick the cat.

I had a cat hairball on my sheet music for Take 5, autographed by Dave Brubeck, so I know where you're coming from. ;-) Thanks for letting me know, though. I'll call customer service this evening.
Finished The Night Circus. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Will start We Have Always Lived in the Castle this afternoon.

Carol wrote: "It has some impressive reviews--maybe it's time for me to pick up the series again. Love to hear your thoughts!"The first book in this series Urban Shaman was one of my first urban fantasy favorites and is still one of my top five. The whining in the next two books irritated me, that's something that I simply cannot deal with, not in books or real life either one so I dropped the series.
Last year, got Walking Dead from the library and Joanna has apparently moved through her 'ostrich in the sand' phase, so liked that book much better. I'm hoping this one is going on as well and if so, the series will go back on my 'buy to keep' list.

Oh, you didn't finish The Passage, Tracy..?

Probably, though I don't think right away. I needed to take a huge break after Wicked and another huge one after Son of a Witch...I love Gregory Maguire but his books depress me so much. Need happy things after.
I just started Happily Ever After. Bill Willingham wrote the most innovative intro I think I've ever read.
I'm reading The Night Circus. So far, I'm not impressed. I'm on page 69, and the story hasn't started yet. There is no emotional involvement, neither by the author nor by the reader. I can only guess who is going to be the protagonist(s), because the POV jumps erratically. There're strange 'circus' interludes happening in the future. Why are they included? It seems that the story should be tantalizing... when it starts. I'm not sure I'll read so long. In any way, the language is very good, and I like the cover. It's clearly a literary novel, which for some reason uses fantasy as a prop. Perhaps I'm missing a point? I know many people like it. I'll try to muddle through.
Almost done with volume 9 of my beloved Dresden Files: White Night. I think if the Harry from Storm Front met the Harry from this book, he'd be skeered.

Just finished, one of those that you don't want to put down. This one was pretty much back up to the standard of Urban Shaman. I'm going to have to go back and pick up books 4 and 5 in the series, apparently it took Jo two books to get through whining about not wanting to be a shaman and get her act together. She definitely has things together now and can't wait for the next one. She's heading for Ireland now.
I read this one so fast I know I missed some things, so need to add books 4 and 5 and re-read but she's definitely coming into her own with the power.
@ Shannon, I lied. Lol. I'll be starting Night of Knives soon but decided to continue with book two of the epic fantasy group read.Trying to get done with A Clash of Kings, but this book doesn't seem to want to end...
Traci wrote: "Trying to get done with A Clash of Kings, but this book doesn't seem to want to end... ..."I didn't get through it. Went on long enough I simply decided I didn't really care what happened to the characters. I do have that kind of problem with a lot of the so-called 'epic' series.
I sometimes wonder if I had been born 30 years later, if I'd have been diagnosed with ADHD and medicated ...
This is my second time. I skimmed my first time and it eventually caught up with me. I like the series but ACoK is definitely my least favorite. Almost everyone is either evil or stupid.

Nothing appears to happen but then (usually) it reboots itself and all is back to normal.
Of course, if you shake it and it rattles, it's probably beyond help.
Carol wrote: "Thank you! I think I'll get it from the library and then do like you are--maybe go back and add in."The latest in this series is Raven Calls which will be out the end of this month. February is NOT going to be good for my book budget.
Valerie wrote: "Started The Scorpio Races last night."I'll be interested to see your thoughts on this. As a lifetime horseperson, I love books with horses but too often the author really doesn't know horses all that well and I end up really annoyed with the book.
Finally finished Clash of Kings. Sounds like I hate it. I don't. There's just parts that really annoy me. Reading Night of Knives, almost done and then will start Return of the Crimson Guard.
Sharon wrote: "I'll be interested to see your thoughts on this. I can't comment on the realism of the horses, but I think the author was a horseback rider -- she thanks her parents for "protesting, but only gently, when we rode our horses bareback" in the acknowledgements, and here she says, "I loved the horses that I had growing up and in college, though I remember just how much work they were too, in the frosty mornings when your fingers are too cold to work." That said, I thought it was fantastic. Possibly the best thing I've read so far this year.
