@Dawn I was a mess while reading Fool's Fate of the The Tawny Man series. I'm not usually a crier but...well it was ugly.

Farseer did not make me cry eitherI am reading On Basilisk Station for sci-fi and A Shadow in Summer for fantasy.

I thought The Native Star was good overall. I wouldn't say that I loved it but it held my interest throughout and it was definitely an easy read.
It's difficult to make me cry these days. The one that came closest was the end of Horns by Joe Hill. A truly powerful and strange book!
Come to think of it, I did almost want to cry when reading Royal Assassin, but for totally the wrong reasons. ;)@Shannon - Thanks for the reply. Good to know.
Horns had a very sad ending! There was also a great emotional release that I don't think I've ever experienced in a novel before. It effected me deeply.
I am right now just started reading Embasssytown, then Un Lun Dun, both by China Mieville, then on to Green Mars and Blue Mars.
I will cry unpredictably about things on tv or in books or movies. I don't cry about my own life stuff, except for when I lost my dad and my cat. I cried for days when my dad passed, and I got some really weird looks because I am not a very emotionally demonstrative person in general.
Regarding, The Left Hand of God. Definitely wait until you're in the mood for something dark, Colleen.
I finished Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban last night and I started The Summer I Died this morning.
I agree with you guys on Horns. I went in expecting a sort of scary story, and it was something different, and I thought it was rather wonderful, and I did get emotional more than once reading it. I really liked the end though, it was a good one.
I'm reading Skinwalker and I'm enjoying it. I love the nice infusion of Cherokee folklore and culture. And Jane is quite a heroine!
@Lady D--I really like the series and the respect given to the Cherokee. Still there's something I can't quite put my finger on; I just don't get the emotional response that I do with Kate Daniels.
Oh, I don't love it as much as Kate Daniels, to be sure, but I think I will end up a fan of the series.
I think you might like Horns, Dawn. HSB is a different beast, though. It's still great, but different than Horns. So keep that in mind! :)
Just started The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner. I don't think I'm going to finish The Greyfriar. My tolerance is quite low these days... I remember a time when I finished a book no matter how much I was disliking it but I really seem to be finding it harder to do that lately.
Lady Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "I really liked The Thief, Shannon. I bought the rest in the series."I'm only 10 pages in but I like the narritive so much already that I'm planning to grab the rest of the series today.
Just finished up the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull with Keys to the Demon Prison. It was an enjoyable children's adventure. Now, I'm about to finish the Green Rider series by starting to read The High King's Tomb.
I never read The Thief, but I DID read The Queen of Attolia when I was 12 or so and liked it a lot. I should really read the whole series one of these days. Finally got through October Light and put Royal Assassin on the backburner. Now reading Fire by Kristin Cashore.
I am reading Between a Roc and a Hard Place by Danny Birt, just started, but I'm really looking forward to it!
I'm "reading" (actually listening as it's an audio) The Twelfth Imam from the library...have 2 Vince Flynn books waiting, from the library, along with The Unremembered (from the library). I just got the newest Preston/Child book Cold Vengeance (from the library). And today sent for 4 more books. from the library. My own books have gone on a hunger strike.

Colleen of the Crawling Chaos wrote: "Not enjoying RA?"It's just not what I'm in the mood for right now. I'll get back to it.

Just curious. I thought it was very slow, and there were multiple times I thought of putting it down and picking up something else.
Did you feel that way about Assassin's Apprentice? I was so bored at first I almost gave up. Now I'm glad I stuck with it but Robin Hobb is definitely slower than I'm used to.
I thought AA was a bit slow, but I thought it was much faster than RA. At least AA was introducing the characters and the world and everything. I felt like a lot of the stuff in RA was sort of rehashes, so it was slow AND there wasn't a lot of new stuff happening. It's also a couple hundred pages longer.ETA: I also thought Ship of Magic was overlong and boring.
You haven't gotten to Assassin's Quest yet have you? Lol. Very slow start. But from the middle to end one of my favorite books. I actually liked Liveship better than Farseer.
No, no I haven't. I have it, I just haven't started it yet. Next month, though. I needed a break first.
Slightly short of funds (again) I am re-reading my books. Just started "The Dark River" by john Twelve Hawks. Luckily can't remember the ending......
Well. I've given up on The Weight of Blood. But I ran across a book sale at Carrefour and picked up Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters and Retribution Falls for five bucks each :)
I was about to make a cryptic remark Shelly, but I shall refrain. Sorry. Hope you like it. I loved the first book and found the next two sliding down hill for my taste. Maybe you'll think differently.
Yes, it's my age - memory has gone. Handy when re-reading books, but no good for anything else. What was I going to say.......?????

Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters! It's a fun read and I enjoyed it but it's definitely weird. Have you read any other mash-ups? It's more "out there" than some of the others.

I'm assuming he was referring to my writing box which tells me things..... I make a human sacrifice to it fortnightly.
Finished The Pilo Family Circus. It's really very good for it's type of horror and writing style. I can appreciate when something is good even if I'm not into it at the moment. I think if you enjoy the writing style of Bentley Little, you will enjoy this book enormously. I'm currently into the writing style of the more fantastic Sci-Fi genre. Whether it's fantasy, sci-fi, or horror, they're related in that they all depict situations which are somewhat unreal. I don't think it's not that I'm not into horror, but some of the horror has a writing style that is not that appealing to me or has that much thought behind it but slash, gore, and weirdness. Or maybe I'm into books that uses words with a lot of syllables in them.Maciek told me that Peter Straub is a terrific writer, in particular his book Shadowland. I'm going to read SciFi Aficionados' two September reads, The Day of the Triffids and Revelation Space, then it's a toss up between Shadowland and Neuromancer.
I'm currently reading Day of the Triffids.
I'm debating whether to write a review of The Blind Assassin. I like Oryx and Crake better.
I just started Leviathan Wakes. It has quite a reputation to live up to based on the praise I've heard.
