At least we know you got away. How are those who may not know her tendencies faring?
Well, I've finished Pawn of Prophecy, now I'm going to start the second Xanth novel, The Source of Magic, seeing as my parcel arrived this morning.

Oh, Mike, you absolutely slay me! Oops, that may not be a good thing to say right now considering the homicidal mood you're in. *slinks away quickly*
I started Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb last night. I'm not very far in yet but, thus far, it seems like I'll like it better than Ship of Magic, at the very least, and I might even mostly like it. We'll see, though.
Still reading Hounded. This would work so much better if I could read my ebook on an ebook reader. :-(
I FINALLY STARTED A DANCE WITH DRAGONS LAST NIGHT! :D :D :DAlso reading Rooftops of Tehran, a coming-of-age story set in pre-Islamic Revolution Iran. I'm taking this one slowly because it's beautiful so far.

Oh my god... the medical risk warnings. I understand now.
Reading The Map of Time. I've been eyeing it for awhile but got scared away from the mixed reviews. Very impressed so far. The plot isn't the most original but IMO the style is beautiful.
I read The Driver's Seat this morning. I really don't know what I think of it. Have to go buy a screwdriver so we can get into my Nook. Stupid torx screws... Once that is done I will be able to get back to my ebooks.

Just tracked my book's shipping info...it's in town and "out for delivery"...I'm fighting the temptation to go and try to run down the driver who has the package!!!!(By the way, while I will lay it aside and read Dresden first, Hard Magic by Larry Correia is excellent.)
Think I'll go to the Y and swim for a while.... need something to keep my mind busy.....

So, is it safe to come out of hiding now? Did the quart of sour mash whiskey do its job?

Here's to hoping that Sensei get's his copy of Dresden today!*raises steak & cheese sandwich in air*

In order for him to actually do this, he had to take the back off, which required a new precision screwdriver, since rather than using Phillips or flathead screws they used the little asterisk shaped ones. Jerks.

It unshelved all of my books. I'm done with the stock software. Done with it! I want a free device! ;)
Denae wrote: "It unshelved all of my books. I'm done with the stock software. Done with it! I want a free device! ;)"That's why I think I've made up my mind and I'll get a Kobo Touch. It's a young company but being Canadian they don't give a good damn about US DRM wars/device lock in. Kobo is the closest thing I've found to a DRM-free large bookseller. They use a simple Adobe DRM and I've heard talk that the new ADE is supposed to let you drop your purchased books (from B&N & Kobo and a few others) in ADE and then push them out to the ePub device of your choice (if it supports ADE).
In all fairness, I don't think this was actually a DRM issue. I think it was just a random software glitch, but I hate the way the shelving process works on stock and wanted to try something different. I figured if I had to do a factory reset anyway, now was the best time.Early congratulations on the Kobo!

Huh? Is that English, MrsJ, or some kind of alien language?! :D
I have locked the doors...turned out all the lights except for the one over my shoulder...positioned my foot stool for optimum knee comfort. Iced tea and snacks are at hand. I called my daughter and told her she was on her own for procuring dinner tonight;I am currently reading Ghost Story
, so if I don't show back up on the sight thus evening you know where I am.Please feel free to carry on, talk to you later.. (sighs contentedly, leans back, and opens book).
May the Force be with you, Sensei.
Cheryl wrote: "Huh? Is that English, MrsJ, or some kind of alien language?! :D "lol! I hang out on a mobile tech website, too.
Adobe is the [basically] the creator of the ePub format. Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) is a desktop ebook reader: http://www.adobe.com/products/digital...
It is also the beginning platform of DRM used all .epub DRM'ed books (Adobe Adept). Each book seller (Kobo, Sony, B&N, etc) can place an additional layer of DRM on each ebook to create their own form of ebook (ex: Kobo has the .kepub format). This is similar to what Amazon did with the .mobi format (turning it into .azw). These additional layers of DRM are not necessary to stop what is commonly called "digital piracy" but is used instead to create vendor lock-in. This is the reason why a B&N book won't read on a Kindle and vice versa.
Kobo is a Canadian company and they aren't as concerned about vendor lock-in as US stores seem to be. They mostly only use the first layer of DRM (required by publishers) - this layer only allows you to open the book with Kobo and/or Adobe Digital Editions (ADE).
The newest version of ADE 1.8(currently in beta, IIRC) has made some type of change that is supposed to allow all .epubs - no matter what layers - to be dropped into ADE and then pushed from ADE to the ereader of your choice. If this is true, I could buy a B&N nookbook but still read it on my Kobo Touch.

I've never done it but from what I've read it's the same thing jailbreaking an iPhone. You have to get into the "root" of the code that programs it and do God knows what to it.
In my experience, get to have a prettier operating system for your phone and I hope a better organizational system for your Nook. It basically allows you to use open source or your own software for your devices, rather than being limited by what is made available by the developers and various marketplaces. That's the practical side, in my admittedly limited experience.I also hear you can make the red light thing when you turn on your Droid look like R2D2.
Geesh, I have not been getting updates and then you guys were talking about me? What did I doooooo? Can't a girl have a little chit-chat without it being spread about all over the place?Denae wrote: "So, uh, guys? I finished The Beach. I gave it 4 stars for good writing, but the content did not wow me. At 448 pages, it has less content and emotional impact than Lord of the Flies at 192 pages. I wanted to give it 3 stars, but I'm lenient because I know I was comparing it to one of literature's greats. It's a watered down The Catcher in the Rye meets Lord of the Flies. I have to write a review on this book because it does ape the themes of some of my favorite books. Which reminds me, I have to read Catcher again since my brain was still forming when I read it. I don't think they're the same cells. Actually, my whole body is not of the same cells. It'd be interesting to see how much more insight I have as an adult.
Next is Horror's August read, The Hypnotist.

MrsJoseph wrote: "But this is a NookColor, right? That's the only one that can be rooted?"
Classic Nook. The amount of stuff the devs are creaating and suppoting for color makes me feel left out and wanting what thy have.
Yes Aloha...discussion on other thread. I got it Wed afternoon, finished it 1:30 Thur morning.Ya I know I'm, an addict. Now The wait for Cold Days begins. :)
Denae, I became a cannibal at HA. They all looked so delicious, until I took a bite out of them. They were so bitter, those horror types. Now, the Fantasy people look a lot tastier. They have more marbling due to their sedentary lifestyle. Those very thick books don't give them that much exercise time.
Tsk, tsk, Mike. I hope you're not getting the shakes. I have you know I have not read one Butcher. And I have them all in a row ready to be read. Aren't you jealous that I'm going to have my first blush of Butcher?
Actually I do envy you a little.. When I first found Butcher (what an appropriate author name for you to be a fan of, I'd think you'd have "gobbled up" everything he's written) anyway...I read all the "Dresdens" that were out back to back when I found them. You still have all those books to be "new to you"...sigh.

I'm hoping to hit the 30% mark on Gravity's Rainbow this weekend and catch up with my book club on The Pickwick Papers. I want to start Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? but I won an ARC of The Good Muslim: A Novel and need to read that. Still working on Winter's Tale and The Christ-Haunted Landscape: Faith and Doubt in Southern Fiction as well. I doubt I will get bored anytime soon.. :)
Oh, I forgot, I am also going to re-read Watchmen and it's going in my read books count. *sticks tongue out at Grant*

Am reading [book:The Heaven Tree Trilogy: The Heaven Tree, the Green Branch, the Scarlet Seed and To the End of the Land and listening to Dick Francis' Banker.
